I seen that. Two channels just reviewed the watch today. Not a bad looking piece, except the lume is too yellowish green. I might buy it to compare to this tudor
@@RabbitWatchShop There is also Thorn tudor homage but Thorn is a bit overly saturated on youtube now. Cronos bb54 is still unknown. Also if you want to be one of the first there is a new San Martin SN0113W-2 (Omega Terra) in white and in blue.
Because it's so cheap, I was tempted to purchase that Thorn. The San Martin SN0113W-2 is a looker; however, I won't purchase a watch with a clasp like that. There's no way to get a precise fit. @@Čangrizavi_Cinik
@@RabbitWatchShop I bought the Thorn but the bracelet was pretty bad. I went to resize it and the screw just turned and turned and wouldn't come out. I popped the bracelet off and found that the San Martin oyster bracelet (which I had one spare) fit the endlinks of the Thorn perfectly as the midlink width is exactly the same size, so I put the Thorn on the San Martin bracelet, complete with the OTF clasp upgrade. It goes OK. The single-domed sapphire gives lots of distortion but I don't mind it. The thing that bothers me with the Thorn is that the bezel insert is a high-gloss ceramic and I don't think it suits the piece. Watchdives sell a modded San Martin BB58 homage with a matt ceramic bezel insert which I think would look better. I went with the Thorn though because I wanted the retro "King Submariner" 3,6,9 dial and the merc hands.
The Tudor is a great watch in every sense. But it’s crazy how the lume pip in the bezel is slightly misaligned in lots of the bb54s I see out there (mine included). Quality control not on point for a watch at this price point.
That’s unfortunate. I’ve seen one, the watch used for Tudor’s press release. It shouldn’t be a common issue, but at least you can get a new insert at the AD
Yeah, I realize I made that mistake after posting the video. The Tudor isn't even domed... I think. It's more of just a boxed sapphire. If it is domed, it's very, very slight.
@@RabbitWatchShop yes I do find it confusing sometimes myself.. cool vid tho 👌 I own the San Martin sn004 in blue, black and the milsub, am very happy with them
@@bulldogms I suppose the main point I wanted to make is that the San Martin is such an exceptional automatic timepiece - something I never experienced before with watches costing below $1k - that I didn’t need to get the Tudor. And since I’ve been in this hobby for about 14 years, that’s a profound realization when comparing and contrasting the San Martin, a $200 watch, with the Tudor, a $4k watch. Interestingly, I’ve met more people wearing luxury watches that aren’t watch nerds or enthusiasts than I have met luxury watches owners that are lol. In fact, a few months ago, I was asked my derm about his two-tone blue dial submariner, the 116613. He didn’t know the sister brand, Tudor, existed lol 😂
Nice comparison. If it wasn't for the snowflake hour-hand I'd have one of these. Since Tudor is going after companies using the SF we may see a lot less of it being used. Time will tell.
I’ve owned a couple of Tudors (GMT & 58 Blue), as well as a San Martin subby, and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for - there really is no comparison between these “homage” brands and a Swiss luxury timepiece (albeit entry level). As soon as I had my first “decent” wristwatch I wanted nothing more to do with any of these Ali Express offerings. I mean sure, as others have commented, Tudor is not perfect and NOT a Rolex, just as Rolex isn’t JLC and JLC isn’t Patek, but Tudor still make a bloody good watch, and one that you can be proud to wear on your wrist everyday and perhaps pass along to future generations. Who can honestly say they would feel that way about their Pagani Design, or Cronos, or San Martin??
I agree with everything stated. My Tudor gets 90% wrist time, for it is my favorite diver of all time. I love it more than a Rolex Submariner I owned. But I do like to give my Tudor a break and throw own an ISO certified Seiko diver, especially my modded SKX013s When I come back to the Tudor, I’m beyond happy to get it back on wrist. It’s a lovely thing to give it a break and come back to it
Comparing a bicycle to a motorcycle and saying the bicycle doesn't have the same finish or power is silly. That is what we have here. For $230.00 you have way more watch than the want to be Rolex by Rolex. hard earned money can be spent better for any person that truly has brains. This is why we do not teach our children the value of money and retirement in the future. I find people to day want labels instead of security for the future. Stop buying labels and do not care what others think. They are not going to take care of you in retirement.
That's one of San Martin's least impressive pieces. I've taken one of mine to an AD and it compared really well to a BB58, since the bracelet tolerances were a little better too.
Amusing considering this watch is one of SM’s most praised models, owned by a lot of people on the platform. And the Tudor’s bracelet is only a tad bit better. The clasp is what elevates the Tudor over the SM. And why did you like your own comment within a minute of posting?
A lot of your comparison is subjective. Also 60 click vs 120. Watchdives offers the SN004 with a coin edge and on-the-fly clasp at the same price as your blue dial. As far as I know sapphire crystals are perfectly clear on San Martin watches .... the same as Tudor or any Swiss brand. I’m coming from an objective, not subjective, standpoint. The reason why SM and other similar companies make money is because they’re selling a desired design at a significantly cheaper price, and they do an exceptional job at it. SM is a cut above most homage based manufactures.
@@RabbitWatchShop I would have to go against popular opinion on this point. A watch is often lauded for its precision. A bezel that is able to mark 30 second intervals (120 click) could be of benefit to some. It all depends on how much detail one needs. If given a choice between 60 and 120 click refinement I would speculate 90% would prefer 120.
That's a bold speculation lol. Regardless, it's a preference, not a measure of quality. The Tudor's bezels blows the SM's bezel away. There's no play. Precise. Beautiful feel and sound. You'd have to handle both to understand. Nonetheless, San Martin’s bezels are nice. @@WillyMcCoy50
@@WillyMcCoy50 The reason why many people prefer 120 clicks to 60 clicks is that it can provide more fluidity to the bezel turn. But a well-made 60 click is equally as satisfying. It's more the cheaper watches that benefit from the 120-click "upgrade" from 60 because they lack ceramic ball bearings, and so have more friction issues.
Note: I stated the movement, an NH35A, is 4Hz, when it is 3Hz, or 21,600 BPH.
Thanks for making this video. I like the way you compared both. Would you consider comparing the Tudor or even the SN004 to the new SN0138?
I have no plans on purchasing anymore San Martin watches. I would like to compare and contrast that model, however, with my Tudor BB54.
Cronos made the first BB54 "homage" just recently. San Martin has 2 Tudor BB homages - Sn004G limited and SN008 (sn0004 is 38mm, sn008 is 40mm).
