This was an S+ Tier Direct. My friends told me the Direct was 100% catered towards me specifically. The DLC for Splatoon, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade are all looking great, especially Xenoblade. Ghost Trick is getting remade! Lost of other mystery games too, like Professor Layton coming back! Baten Kaitos I've been interested in for a while is getting remastered. Perfect timing. Style Savvy devs are making a new game. Looking forward to Fashion Dreamers. Samba de Amigo's back! Katamari too. Excellent Direct all the way through.
Honestly apart from a lack of Mario content (apart from the Godsend of Birdo and the Yoshi's Island track) this was a pretty good Direct, nice amount of variety and cool we finally got Game Boy online and release dates. BUT WE NEED ANOTHER MARIO BASEBALL GAME, THERE'S SO MUCH OPPORTUNITY FOR ONE

I'm really excited to see Level-5 come back to the west, especially with Layton, which I plan to get into! I hope more Level-5 games (cough cough Yo-kai Watch 4) come to America soon!
Yo-kai watch strikes me as one of those games that should be more popular then they actually are. My highlight of the whole direct was definitely Professor Layton, excited to see him and Luke return!
Of all the things Level-5 has made, I really thought Inazuma Eleven was cool. I didn't even know the official games were a thing until rewatching the anime at some point. And when I did, it turned out that 5 of the 6 mainline games were only ever released in Europe while Japan got to keep the 6th entry, Inazuma Eleven GO: Galaxy, because of some random German company (I think they were called MSC Technology Systems or something like that) attempting to copyright the word "Galaxy", causing the Japanese Level-5 company to sue them, thus leading to Inazuma Eleven GO: Galaxy never being officially localized. There should an English patch available apparently. Currently, the latest game that is said to come out this year is Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road of Heroes, but I believe it will most likely get delayed again.
Shame that not many people really noticed the Fantasy Life _real_ sequel coming. The FL Discord was EXPLODING with joy, and so was I, the 3DS version is still really neat, so seeing a new game that isn't a gacha mobile game... feels good.

The direct was pretty good the Splatoon DLC, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid and Pikmin 4 look promising. And the Mario Kart DLC with Yoshi's Island and Birdo could lead to more characters and creative tracks.
Etrian Odyssey survived the 3ds. There's hope for EO6. And Fantasy Life... I played that sucker a ton back in college, especially online with friends. Can't wait to do it all over again in glorious HD.
If the new prices were based on inflation, we would be reaching the US$60 mark by this year and the last years would have had games costing US$52-57 maximum. It's not an effect of inflation for sure
Not a horrible Direct, but not a great one either. It was fine, there just wasn't really anything new. I'm stoked to play the Kirby remake and I'm planning on trying out the Metroid Prime remake. I can't believe it's $40. I might even end up becoming a Pikmin fan, just want to know what I'm in for when going into this series. Tears of the Kingdom looks amazing. I'm surprised the lack of anything Mario related, no new Mario Sports game, no new 2D, or 3D Mario. Find it weird how we've not got a single Mario related announcement. Weird.
As a shinyhunter, the Gameboy and GBA announcement was amazing. I never thought those Pokemon games would be on switch. And while they weren't confirmed, Pokemon Day is right around the corner. So I have faith. And a new Fantasy Life? Very exciting!
I personally didn't watch the direct. I'm not getting the splatoon 3 expansion pass yet til wave 2. I don't care if they brought back the old hub world. I just want a new single player content. Espionage the fact most of my playthrough are salmon run than turf war because people keep rage quitting. Kirby tho gets me excited
On the bright side, I'm just very glad and happy we're finally getting Game Boy online along with Super Mario Land 2 which is one of my favorite Game Boy games ever. The reason I love that game is because it's basically like a portable version of Super Mario World (especially the Mario sprite looks similar) but completely different. But my preferred version is the DX color version, mainly because it unlocks the full potential of Super Mario Land 2 and you can play as Luigi which is absolutely mind-blowing! Overall, the direct was pretty solid. (At least we didn't get Mario baseball)

I believe what happened is that Nintendo actually listened to the criticism of skyward sword HD, and that's why Return to Dreamland deluxe and Metroid Prime remastered are actually worth it because they have more QOL improvements, actually have improved graphics, and are priced accordingly
Kind of strange that no new Mario games were announced, but honestly, outside of the new sports games, us Mario fans have been eating pretty well. Pretty solid Direct, in my opinion. Pikmin 4 and the Prime remaster look amazing, and the new Yoshi's Island racetrack looks really fun. I love that Birdo is being added as a playable character, too. And Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks fun too IMO, even though I'm not a big Zelda fan. Samba de Amigo and Ghost Trick returning were pleasant surprises, too. Hopefully more people get to see how unique those franchises are.

And yeah, Bowser's Fury may be a side mode to a port, but it's still a very good side mode that's also a blueprint for open-world 3D Mario, and the port it's included in is one with actual effort put into it (graphical updates, quality-of-life changes, etc.). It's not like the franchise is in a drought or anything like that. LOL

I'll honestly be surprised if we don't get a new mainline Mario game announced by the end of this year, especially since the movie premiering in April will be a big event.
if where talking about pricing i don't have a problem with it aslong as the game is worth it (in this case $70) TOTK was made because the devs had too many ideas and the recent trailer tells me it will be worth it also complaining about pricing doesn't mean anything because they varie from place to place (in my area its rare to see a game above 60, i'm EUropean so maybe thats why)
The fact that the new Legend of Zelda game is announced on the site to be $69.99 is a problem. I thought the excuse for that increase, at least when Take 2/2K Games first pulled it, was due to new generation hardware but Nintendo ruined it by doing it in the middle of a console generation.
The only thing which baffled me was GBA in extension pass. Like... I have already an emulator + original cartridge. I am like : if they put it in the normal online, OK but I won't charging more money just for playing games that I (mostly) already have (and some that I have aren't and won't be on the selection lol)
If they want me to buy it, than give us something my shitty laptop can't emulate well. Like Gamecube games! Do you have any idea how much Path of Radiance needs a port?

Hey I'm glad you liked it. My thoughts are the same as yours though I'm a bit more underwhelmed by the offerings. Still an improvement over the farm direct, that's for sure!
I don't think it's very likely, but I had the theory that maybe they're hoping for some kind of second wind on the Switch and keep it going for maybe a year before they phase it out. Tears of the Kingdom is gonna be a huge game and I think it'd be a good moment to maybe release some big surprise game around the time it comes out which would keep the system alive for longer. Like maybe a new Mario or something. I also thought that because of the Splatoon DLC schedule, since they announced a wave of DLC sometime in the future, which had me think they might release that a few months from now, probably after Zelda. I don't know, just food for thought I guess, but I don't think it'll happen honestly, they really need to catch up with the other consoles in terms of hardware.
I really liked Etrian Odyssey HD and Baten Kaitos HD. I really wanted Etrian Odyssey 6, Golden Sun, and Kid Icarus Uprising as well, but hey, at least we got two absolutely fire JRPG series in the direct.
the september one was not bad, but it lacked variety but it still had some good announcements and the pacing is not bad and the presentations are not really boring. also geez Pikmin 3 is a decade ago? Time is flying by way too quickly
Direct was good but just like they said, they said the direct was for content and games coming out the first half of the year. We could've a new mario or donkey kong game but it could be till later of the second half towards the end of the year.
Metroid prime has a completely different art style. It definitely still looks like Metroid but the nostalgia in me still prefers the hyper realistic style of the original. However I’m glad they went for this new style overall because the more cartoony look definitely complements the console better. Besides, the original holds up so well you can just upscale it in dolphin and it’ll look like a ps5 game.
Overall, based takes, minus your take that Nintendo shouldn’t make another Mario baseball game for the switch, that series is underrated/underdiscussed and is an absolute treat to play and I would like another one that pushes the series to its limits Is what I would be saying if I didn’t already know that the switch is incapable of hosting good sports games made specifically for it, I know form personal experience that franchises ether become immortal dominators of the industry or die horribly with the third game (that personal experience is the pvz shooter franchise, yes EA made pvz into not one but three shooter games, and yes it’s already dead because of EA and, allegedly, the new pvz teams after pvz got bought)
Here my overall thoughts on the direct: I think it overall satisfy me more in pacing and upcoming content not gonna lie, I am sure looking for pikmin 4 when is out maybe I will see what so great in the series before you say something I need to mention I am more of a tradional platformer person than any other genre really in the first place but hey I sometimes enter to RPG and TPS and who knows with RTS I might get a bond. Kirby's return to dreamland deluxe's mode is defenitley the highlight for me, is look like hal perfected the gimmick of cannon different mission objective hard side mode they done recently from star allies' heroes in another dimension, to forgo dreams from forgotten land to magolor's epilouge I am going to tell right now I am not getting the demo is just ruin my actual expirience later that about it but either way I am waiting for this so hard. Splatoon 3's dlc look pretty intresting not gonna lie I am really more intrest with the second look like a side mode inside of marrie's mind or she got locked in sort of chaos realm like in castlevania aria of sorrow in idea. The xenoblade dlc look really good I am more intrested in wave 4 which pretty much tell we gonna have an adventure with shulk and rex togheter which is an A by me. The metroid prime remaster shocked me I gonba be honest and while I wish it was a collection this remaster look incredible and look like it utulized the switch in the same way it utulized the gamecube before I am not getting soon because of return deluxe but hopecully down the road. Koz tears of the kingdom really hype me up I am gonna get it for my birthday which is just 3 days after the game's release is look like they gonna use the a mostly similar overwolrd as before but for the case of the more tradional zelda of take down the doungeons in an open world level design with the gimmick of skyward sword of moving between world I belive is either the original land of the zonai or maybe when most of hyrule's inhabitats move after the disaster that stared in the trailer, I am defenitley hope to see more from the hand hope it will pull some tricks like how nero does in devil may cry 4. The gb/a combo pack is really good for me as someone whoreally be happy to explore kirby's dreamland and amazing mirror when the latter will come up and hey who knows maybe we get some titles like wario land 2, drill dozer, super mario land 1, more super mario advences, mario tennis for gba and gbc and heck maybe mega man X treme 1 and 2 consider is a big doubt that we gonna have an another X legacy collection and it give me hope that next time we gonna have packs for nintendo DS for normal pack and gamecube for the expansion pack though I belive there a chance that instead of those we gonna have packs from sega's gamegear, NEC's turbo graphx 16 and sega's dreamcast but I am sure is gonna be a blast As for the more niche stuff I am happy to see more from samba de amiigo and layton. What I do wish to have is a kinda expected to see a trailer on freedom planet 2's release date consider this summer gonna be when it get launched to consoles, as for a new mainline mario game I belive we do gonna have one but is gonna be after movie probably because is gonna be a tie in game on the movie but I guess from their perspecitive a game on the movie will spoil too much on the movie's events or so and I do wish to see some stuff on sonic frontiers' dlc maybe just a bit. Overall really enjoyed the direct it was satisfy me in many direction isn't perfect but still was more servicable than other ones
Wow, I'm impressed that you are impressed. I personally think this Direct was a 4/10. Not much shown that we already knew. Upcharging for things, paid DLC, gb and gba games is dope but the selection is Grade D at best, the Direct was boring!
I feel like I am the only person in the world to find this direct to be mid. I mean it wasn't terrible, but it was really good either. There were barely any announcements for new games (other than professor layton), a lot of remasters from franchises that should just get new entries (with prime specifically, I'm surprised how most are just fine with the first being remastered compared to the whole trilogy, plus no prime 4 news). There were a lot of expansion pass/dlc talk that seemed filler (Especially splatoon 3's first wave. I like going back to inkopolis, but they didn't really give a good reason to go there other than to say "inkopolis is back"). Games announced previously didn't get enough info. Pikmin 4 didn't bother me too much in that regard, but Tears of the Kingdom just feels too unknown to me regarding how it will play to get me excited (I know other fans are excited by the mystery surrounding it though so I won't be too harsh on the marketing). The third-party games too felt average. But there was some good stuff in there. Samba De Amigo and Professor Layton are back in new entries, Wave 4 looks sick with the new Yoshi's Island track, and GB (with pocket/colour toggles) + (most importantly) GBA games are coming to online. That was the definite highlight for me. So yeah, there was some good stuff in there, but it just feels like Nintendo is running out of games to release on the Switch before a new console in the future. That does make sense, but when I see people saying how there's so much new stuff and how Nintendo's 2023 plans are clear, it feels like they aren't seeing the bigger picture. But I'm happy people liked the Direct anyway and aren't being overly negative like me.

I loved this direct :D, finally seeing gameplay of PIKMIN 4.... that was amazing, and..the implication of a Unique gameplay near the end of that trailer with the bulborb's eyed going red during the night...that's something i always wanted :D, i remember that (when i was a kid) when i played Pikmin 3, i always wanted a night themed mision, that worked in a more Unique way, and it looks that we are getting it, Pikmin 3 is one of my first games (and favorite) so...seeing finally Pikmin 4....it's just....amazing :')
I'll be picking up the physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered in two weeks. Great trailer for Tears of the Kingdom, but I sure hope it has proper dungeons. I'll finally check out Ghost Trick and Baten Kaitos. I've heard good things about both.

I think you should make a video about Nintendo charging $70 for games going forward. I can't imagine a world where the next Pokémon game is $70, not after Scarlet and Violet. I think this is going to bad for players and especially collectors. Nintendo games rarely go on sale or have deep discounts by design, and that's only gonna get expensive down the road.
This was an okay direct for me, definitely better than September. I truly wonder if the Mario movie will have a new game announced with it like what is being speculated.
I feel like I'm the only one that's really upset about TotK being $70. I'm sure the game will be amazing and massive, but I am really nervous that Nintendo will begin to get greedy and price other mainline games at that price, like the next mainline Mario game or something.

if where talking about pricing i don't have a problem with it aslong as the game is worth it (in this case $70)
TOTK was made because the devs had too many ideas and the recent trailer tells me it will be worth it
also complaining about pricing doesn't mean anything because they varie from place to place (in my area its rare to see a game above 60, i'm EUropean so maybe thats why)
The fact that the new Legend of Zelda game is announced on the site to be $69.99 is a problem. I thought the excuse for that increase, at least when Take 2/2K Games first pulled it, was due to new generation hardware but Nintendo ruined it by doing it in the middle of a console generation.

I don't think it's very likely, but I had the theory that maybe they're hoping for some kind of second wind on the Switch and keep it going for maybe a year before they phase it out. Tears of the Kingdom is gonna be a huge game and I think it'd be a good moment to maybe release some big surprise game around the time it comes out which would keep the system alive for longer. Like maybe a new Mario or something. I also thought that because of the Splatoon DLC schedule, since they announced a wave of DLC sometime in the future, which had me think they might release that a few months from now, probably after Zelda. I don't know, just food for thought I guess, but I don't think it'll happen honestly, they really need to catch up with the other consoles in terms of hardware.
Idk with it being the 3rd most sold gaming system of all time…. It might be here for a couple more years.
I really liked Etrian Odyssey HD and Baten Kaitos HD. I really wanted Etrian Odyssey 6, Golden Sun, and Kid Icarus Uprising as well, but hey, at least we got two absolutely fire JRPG series in the direct.

Direct was good but just like they said, they said the direct was for content and games coming out the first half of the year. We could've a new mario or donkey kong game but it could be till later of the second half towards the end of the year.
Metroid prime has a completely different art style. It definitely still looks like Metroid but the nostalgia in me still prefers the hyper realistic style of the original. However I’m glad they went for this new style overall because the more cartoony look definitely complements the console better. Besides, the original holds up so well you can just upscale it in dolphin and it’ll look like a ps5 game.
Overall, based takes, minus your take that Nintendo shouldn’t make another Mario baseball game for the switch, that series is underrated/underdiscussed and is an absolute treat to play and I would like another one that pushes the series to its limits
Is what I would be saying if I didn’t already know that the switch is incapable of hosting good sports games made specifically for it, I know form personal experience that franchises ether become immortal dominators of the industry or die horribly with the third game (that personal experience is the pvz shooter franchise, yes EA made pvz into not one but three shooter games, and yes it’s already dead because of EA and, allegedly, the new pvz teams after pvz got bought)

Here my overall thoughts on the direct:
I think it overall satisfy me more in pacing and upcoming content not gonna lie, I am sure looking for pikmin 4 when is out maybe I will see what so great in the series before you say something I need to mention I am more of a tradional platformer person than any other genre really in the first place but hey I sometimes enter to RPG and TPS and who knows with RTS I might get a bond.
Kirby's return to dreamland deluxe's mode is defenitley the highlight for me, is look like hal perfected the gimmick of cannon different mission objective hard side mode they done recently from star allies' heroes in another dimension, to forgo dreams from forgotten land to magolor's epilouge I am going to tell right now I am not getting the demo is just ruin my actual expirience later that about it but either way I am waiting for this so hard.
Splatoon 3's dlc look pretty intresting not gonna lie I am really more intrest with the second look like a side mode inside of marrie's mind or she got locked in sort of chaos realm like in castlevania aria of sorrow in idea.
The xenoblade dlc look really good I am more intrested in wave 4 which pretty much tell we gonna have an adventure with shulk and rex togheter which is an A by me.
The metroid prime remaster shocked me I gonba be honest and while I wish it was a collection this remaster look incredible and look like it utulized the switch in the same way it utulized the gamecube before I am not getting soon because of return deluxe but hopecully down the road.
Koz tears of the kingdom really hype me up I am gonna get it for my birthday which is just 3 days after the game's release is look like they gonna use the a mostly similar overwolrd as before but for the case of the more tradional zelda of take down the doungeons in an open world level design with the gimmick of skyward sword of moving between world I belive is either the original land of the zonai or maybe when most of hyrule's inhabitats move after the disaster that stared in the trailer, I am defenitley hope to see more from the hand hope it will pull some tricks like how nero does in devil may cry 4.
The gb/a combo pack is really good for me as someone whoreally be happy to explore kirby's dreamland and amazing mirror when the latter will come up and hey who knows maybe we get some titles like wario land 2, drill dozer, super mario land 1, more super mario advences, mario tennis for gba and gbc and heck maybe mega man X treme 1 and 2 consider is a big doubt that we gonna have an another X legacy collection and it give me hope that next time we gonna have packs for nintendo DS for normal pack and gamecube for the expansion pack though I belive there a chance that instead of those we gonna have packs from sega's gamegear, NEC's turbo graphx 16 and sega's dreamcast but I am sure is gonna be a blast
As for the more niche stuff I am happy to see more from samba de amiigo and layton.
What I do wish to have is a kinda expected to see a trailer on freedom planet 2's release date consider this summer gonna be when it get launched to consoles, as for a new mainline mario game I belive we do gonna have one but is gonna be after movie probably because is gonna be a tie in game on the movie but I guess from their perspecitive a game on the movie will spoil too much on the movie's events or so and I do wish to see some stuff on sonic frontiers' dlc maybe just a bit.
Overall really enjoyed the direct it was satisfy me in many direction isn't perfect but still was more servicable than other ones

Wow, I'm impressed that you are impressed. I personally think this Direct was a 4/10. Not much shown that we already knew. Upcharging for things, paid DLC, gb and gba games is dope but the selection is Grade D at best, the Direct was boring!

I feel like I am the only person in the world to find this direct to be mid. I mean it wasn't terrible, but it was really good either. There were barely any announcements for new games (other than professor layton), a lot of remasters from franchises that should just get new entries (with prime specifically, I'm surprised how most are just fine with the first being remastered compared to the whole trilogy, plus no prime 4 news). There were a lot of expansion pass/dlc talk that seemed filler (Especially splatoon 3's first wave. I like going back to inkopolis, but they didn't really give a good reason to go there other than to say "inkopolis is back"). Games announced previously didn't get enough info. Pikmin 4 didn't bother me too much in that regard, but Tears of the Kingdom just feels too unknown to me regarding how it will play to get me excited (I know other fans are excited by the mystery surrounding it though so I won't be too harsh on the marketing). The third-party games too felt average. But there was some good stuff in there. Samba De Amigo and Professor Layton are back in new entries, Wave 4 looks sick with the new Yoshi's Island track, and GB (with pocket/colour toggles) + (most importantly) GBA games are coming to online. That was the definite highlight for me. So yeah, there was some good stuff in there, but it just feels like Nintendo is running out of games to release on the Switch before a new console in the future. That does make sense, but when I see people saying how there's so much new stuff and how Nintendo's 2023 plans are clear, it feels like they aren't seeing the bigger picture. But I'm happy people liked the Direct anyway and aren't being overly negative like me.
switch games over here in Canada are 100 dollars a piece, be thankful you dont need to pay like probrobly 115 for Zelda (idk haven't checked the price)
My favorite part's of this direct is Gameboy & GBA Game's coming to Nintendo switch online & Mario kart wave 4 with Yoshi's island & Birdo.

I loved this direct :D, finally seeing gameplay of PIKMIN 4.... that was amazing, and..the implication of a Unique gameplay near the end of that trailer with the bulborb's eyed going red during the night...that's something i always wanted :D, i remember that (when i was a kid) when i played Pikmin 3, i always wanted a night themed mision, that worked in a more Unique way, and it looks that we are getting it, Pikmin 3 is one of my first games (and favorite) so...seeing finally Pikmin 4....it's just....amazing :')
I'll be picking up the physical version of Metroid Prime Remastered in two weeks. Great trailer for Tears of the Kingdom, but I sure hope it has proper dungeons. I'll finally check out Ghost Trick and Baten Kaitos. I've heard good things about both.

I think you should make a video about Nintendo charging $70 for games going forward. I can't imagine a world where the next Pokémon game is $70, not after Scarlet and Violet. I think this is going to bad for players and especially collectors. Nintendo games rarely go on sale or have deep discounts by design, and that's only gonna get expensive down the road.

This was an okay direct for me, definitely better than September. I truly wonder if the Mario movie will have a new game announced with it like what is being speculated.
I feel like I'm the only one that's really upset about TotK being $70. I'm sure the game will be amazing and massive, but I am really nervous that Nintendo will begin to get greedy and price other mainline games at that price, like the next mainline Mario game or something.
