  • Hey Oldsmobile fans! Here we have a very rare find. This is a One Owner 1972 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight LS (Luxury Series) 2 Door Hardtop 455 with only 44,000 Original Miles. It is in excellent condition both body wise and mechanically. No rust, no scratches, and no damage of any kind. It is ready to take to shows! If you were to take this car and have it run through a Barrett Jackson Auction, it would fit right in. And it might even stand out!

    I know this exact car. Originally it did have a vinyl top which was removed when the car had a quality repaint. Fond memories of this 98. Nice to see this video. Thanks for keeping it posted.

    Nice car, this was the last year before they started putting in Smog pumps, EGR valves and 5mph bumpers which took a bite out of performance and drivability, if I were to own a Oldsmobile Ninety Eight of this vintage it has to be a 1971/72 model year.

    I LOVED this car as an 11-year old. Really wanted my Dad to get one. But he bought a 1972 Plymouth Suburban wagon instead.

    My brother came across one and I smog checked it. Points, set dwell & chk- timing . One owner, ran as clean as a new car emissions wise. Torque monster, quiet.

    Lovely car, great color for that body style and the lack of a vinyl top is a unique plus.
    No power locks, no tilt, odd the way people ordered cars back then.

    We(our family( I was 19) had one exactly like this one, color and all except ours had a light gold vinyl top, basically the same color as the light tan interior. My dad bought it new in the fall of 1970. It was so beautiful. So large, powerful and absolutely gorgeous!

      If your dad got the car new in the fall of 1970, then it couldn't be an "exact" car like the one mentioned in this video. Yours would've been a 1971 model which had a few differences between it and the '72 model shown here.

    Brings back old memories,crazy story in 1976 a gives my father a 72 olds 98, steel gray body and black vinyl top and black cloth interior, the guy bought the car for his girlfriend in 1972, when he caught her cheating on him he took the car back in 73, it sat in a garage in toledo ohio for 3 years and only had 16,000 miles, what a monster, a high performance luxury car.

  • @matrox
    @matrox 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My father only bought Oldsmobile all his life except for his first car which was a chevy in the late 40s after returning from ww2. It was an old used Chevy so not sure of the year. When I was a tot in the late 50's and early 60s we had a Classic 55' Rocket 88 2 door. He bought that used as a 2 year old car. I actually came home from the hospital in his 52' Olds 88. I have seen pictures of it but don't remember it, my older brother seem to remember it well. I knew the 55' was a classic before it was a classic. After the axle spline broke, he got a 62' Olds 98. That was a big jump in luxury from the 55'. As the 62' we had A/C, push button windows, a wonder bar radio tuner, seat belts and what I thought was cool was a push button trunk release from the interior. His last Olds was an 86' 98. He died about 1 year before Oldsmobile did.

    72 Olds 98. Huge car by today's standards. This car is a beautiful survivor car. 1976 was the final year for the really large GM cars all all its division. The 1977 models were several hundred lbs. lighter but a more reasonable size. By the mid 1980's another downsizing occurred to the once large GM cars. This downsizing to a front wheel drive unibody platform with a 3.8 litre V6 being the only the available engine in the Buick Electra/ Park Avenue and the Olds 98 Regency. GM gave Olds and Pontiac several years ago. Buick sells a completely different line of cars now with mostly different nameplates. But we a reason intelligent must accept change as a part of life and we can't bring back to cars we loved years ago.

    Nice ride, interior isn't really leather and the wood grain is plastic plus the steering wheel isn't wrapped around with leather.
    I've owned several of them and I haven't had one with real leather or wood grain in any of them because they didn't put those item's in those car's and I guess he didn't know it has a built-in 8-track tape player in the radio.

    It's always struck me funny, how an original purchaser would have sprung for a loaded 98, an Electra, or a Coupe DeVille... And would skip/skimp on things like a tilt column, AM/FM, trunk release, and so on...
    I guess omitting those $25- $125 items would take your car note down a whole 10 or 20 dollars a month.... Things were so different back then, huh?
    I had an Aunt that would NEVER own or even ride in a car with power window.... Why? Because she was convinced that IF the car were to run into a lake, everyone inside would surely die.... And as funny as that sounds, apparently many people thought similarly back then.
    Of course, there are morons nowadays that drive into the water because of not paying attention, say texting, and actually die because they can't unlock their doors (manually, because they don't know HOW).
    I guess it's still a strange World.

    What Happened To The Rear View Mirror That Was Supposed To Be installed On The Passenger Door ?

    • @ThePauliebuck
      @ThePauliebuck 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't mandatory, wasn't required from feds to meet safety certification, pass side mirror was considered an option or placed on a higher trim level, late 70s before the feds made passengers mirrors mandatory

    I had one of these in my college years. It was not really an affordable car to drive for a college student, it was during the jimmy carter years when gas prices were high for that era. Fuel mileage on them (mine was a 4 door huge boat) was 12-13 mpg no matter how you drove it. It had tons of power so that was not at all an issue with a 455 4bbrl carb. If I was able to draft behind a semi I got a little better mileage but these were not built for fuel economy and they weighed a lot. They were NOT the best looking car either. I think the 76 version was the best looking of that era and was the final year for the 455 Rocket engine.
