Do a gofundme ...... this undertaking may not prove to be an extremely profitable venture..... if you can have it declared a historical monument you may be able to realize some funding from that direction but be careful of the requirements.....

Revival of the town is quite an undertaking but is doable ...... the ranchers in the area may well contribute to such a venture .....

On a trip from Colorado to Montana in the early-mid 80’s we broke down in Chugwater and my mom took us to that shop and we drank chocolate milk at that bar. We thought it was a super special thing to do

Lol - yes you can all meet up at he soda fountain - I thought that was humorous when u said that - it did remind me of when I was a kid - in Bay saint Louis Mississippi there was a soda fountain I would go to that the front faced the gulf of Mexico - I remembered getting milk shakes there - it was hit buy a title wave during hurricane Camille in 1969 - it closed after that lol there was nothing left

Good for y'all! I've done a lot of historical restorations over the years in Oregon, Park City UT and right now a home in Monroe NC, our home that was built by my partners grandparents 1929 on family land that been owned by them for over 300 years. One piece of advice. Don't register this on the National Historical Registry no matter how tempting it is and how much grant money they might say they have for you or tax benefits they have. It will cost you time and money. Particularly time as you can't do any upgrades etc without their blessing. And it can hold up your remodeling for many months or even more than a year. YET! After you're done with the remodel THEN apply for registration. Good luck!

That's so exciting! I grew up in the log looking building next to the Chugwater Chili offices! It was the original stage coach stop from the mid 1800s. My dad and Pastor Clough (who was the pastor of the Baptist church when i was a kid) did the roof that is over that building still. My dad created the 2x4 door on the front and those yellow rose bushes are still my favorites! We love growing up in Chugwater and having the run of the whole town and being able to walk down main street to the Drug Store and buy little lovies for my mom for Mother's Day and her birthday!! :) Rooting for you and Chugwater!

It's a wonderful project; saving old buildings and businesses is one of the most important things you can do to respect history. Having grown up in Colorado and visiting Wyoming many times in my childhood days, I love these old Western towns. The Bones of the Soda fountain are fantastic, down to the set of Drawers seen along one wall, to the Fountain Bar and stools. Three cheers for your vision and ambition in taking on this restoration!

Yay for the revival of small towns! I grew up in corn and bean country in mid Illinois and all those little towns (actually I think they were villages) are so sad. Abandon theaters, arcades, shoe stores, and groceries speak of when our economy was more localized. I pray that the whole “shop local” movement that has been growing will eventually make it to the little Midwestern towns before they all die out. Each town has it’s own story and part in our American history.

In my Dad's home town in rural Minnesota the farmers still come-into town every morning or so to pick-up their mail and gather for coffee with their friends at one or the other coffee shops downtown. They've been doing that for over 125-years. And the kids hang-out there afterschool. The nearest "fast food" is 25-miles North or 30-miles South. My grandfather and his brother actually owned one of them 100-years ago ...and it's still there. Friends gather, deals are made, disputes settled.

Hey Jill! I stopped by for a milkshake on my way through Chugwater yesterday, just the most recent of many, many milkshakes I've enjoyed there since childhood.
I'm sad that I missed you, but your staff were all pleasant! I was a bit surprised to find the soda fountain open on a Sunday, though. Maybe you're not as old fashioned as you let on! When I was growing up around there, nothing would have been open on a Sunday!
I was pleased to see how much Chugwater is looking up! The gas station is rebuilt after burning down, though not quite as impressive as when the Hortons first built it! You've done a lovely job fixing up the soda fountain, and the merchantile across the street was open on a Sunday too, the first time I remember seeing any business operating in that building.
Thanks for doing your your part to bring Chugwater back to life! Now you need to find a good reason to restore the old Swan Land & Cattle HQ! Those buildings have long been crying out for a rescue!

My great grandfather took title to his homestead the same year the soda fountain was built. I'm sure that all five generations of my family have visited your soda fountain in the past century.
If you'd like to tour a homestead from 1914, owned by the same family for over a century, I'd be happy to give you a tour. You'll see lots of similarities with your homestead: a house built small, with additions added through the years. You'll recognize the multiple rows of trees in the shelterbelt. You'll certainly recognize the same relentless wind! :)
Our ranch is 25 miles northeast of Chugwater, in Goshen County. I'll introduce myself next time I stop for a milkshake. :)

How exciting to buy and restore to service a real, old, soda fountain! I was born in Queens, NY, and even after my family moved south I returned there every summer throughout the sixties. Old fashioned candy stores with soda fountains were everywhere during that time, and one of my favorite activities was to enjoy a milkshake, or ice cream float, or egg cream while spinning on the stool. Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing the end product.

I just now understood why I tune in to your channel. I too, go the opposite direction of the masses. Congratulations to you and Christian. I also built restaurants for many years. The key is to bridge fashion AND function, but spend the money on the function. Also. ALL the profit is made in the back office, meaning keep costs in control. I wish you nothing but joy and profit.

I subbed. I am in Denver now because of health but love that you are doing this. We travel through on our way to cabin in Big Horns from Cheyenne. We used to stop in another small towns soda fountains to refresh all the time in Ten Sleep. Mom & Dad originally from Riverton. Beautiful. We might need to stop by sometime.

We used to always stop at Hortons Corner on our way to Greyrocks or Glendo. Haven’t stopped there since Hortons burned down. We’ll be checking you guys out now on Friday nights. 👍🏻

Elizabeth says, That's exactly what the Lord wants us to do, think outside the box and leave the comfort zone, and He will back you every step. Know your heart and do it. This is wonderful Jill.
