Who’s here 11 years after this video was posted 💆🏾♂️ Back then I was a college student studying Computer Engineering with passion for photography, these are videos that helped me better my knowledgeable and my craft. thank you Karl for all this Sir, I will be ever so grateful 🙌🏾
You have no idea how big of a hero you are to me Karl. You've been my focus photographer and have taught me BEYOND my other teachers. Thank you infinitely. Really.
From 3:00 - 4:00 minutes.....LOOK how excited he is about photography..he is so passionate about his work. He knows he is creating something beautiful. If that isn't motivation...then I don't know what is. That was so beautiful to watch. Great tips too. Thank you.
How could 10 ppl not like this video?! not photographers for shore...these videos are briliant to learn more and more about light, and the best of it: THEY ARE FREE!!!
Photography is a passion for many people. Its limits are boundless and it can become your profession if you put your heart and soul into it - thank you for the tips Karl!
Thank you Mr. Taylor. I use the sun for lighting in most of my photos. I'm no professional but I love taking photos none-the-less. Even when my camera is not on me, I study the way the sun lights the objects around me. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
I agree, jeffray! I was just saying to myself: it seems all the best photogs/instructors are deeply obsessive/compulsive about light and end up creating the most compelling work. I love how you explain in most basic principles, Karl. This is how I talk myself through a shoot to get the strongest images: when I break evrything down to its simplest form, the strengths and weaknesses are immediately much easier to recognize and capitalise upon. Cheers to Karl, may the Lord bless you...
Man.. you rock.. I doubt anyone else can put it this simple, about the light types and reflectors, so any one can understand it. Appreciates your effort it uploading this. Thanks a lot.
I watched this video about a year ago. and back then i thought i understood what you were talking about. Now that I've gotten more experience with experimenting with reflectors I think I was able to grasp more out of this video. Anyone new to photography should watch these videos more than one you will learn something new again. Great video
Very good tutorial. One of the best and easiest to follow that I have ever seen. I learned more from this video than any I have watched in quite awhile.
Karl you saved my life. Im always finding tutorials to be a great photographer since im on a special program on our school. And entered the Media Arts (Photography). And when i did what you teached us all i got A. Before i watched this video my highest was C+ thanks karl. Subbed and liked. Your a life saver
You did a really great job explaining light and showing your process. Its so much better to see you in action. There are lots of smart people on TH-cam that talk too much without actually showing people first hand what they know. They should take lessons from you. I should too! Nice tutorial.
Thank you so much. I'm doing a GRATIS shoot tomo for a friend and needed lessons on indoor photography with zero lighting. This is by far the best explanation on reflectors, in a child-like manner. Thanks again. And Viki is gorgeous, no surgery needed ;)
Karl, an extremely well done video and easy to understand. Thanks so much for posting this. I've never heard light explained so simply and clearly! cheers :)
i just watched this and out of about 100 videos on how to photograph etc. this is by far the most benificial it taught me so much! going to stalk your videos now and see what other great info i can get to start taking amazing photos
I really like the tips in this video. A photographer can become stagnant and continue to do the same poses and lighting on every portrait session if he doesn't continue learning his craft and watching videos like this. This video on photography is very well done.
Wow. Vicky is so beautiful! I've lately become in love with photography and all of these videos on this channel have been really helpful to me as a beginner. Thanks so much!
Awesome video! I am now a subscriber of your videos and your website. Keep up the good work, and I hope that one day I become as good of a Photographer as you are! Cheers!
Nice video, it will show people that you don't need tens of thousands of equipment in order to make a good picture. Understanding the basics and having a good eye for light, composition and the right moment will make better pictures sometimes then poor skilled photographers with really expensive equipment.
thanks for this, im in year 9 and ive chose photography for a gcse. over the summer holidays i gotta take 24 pictures of landscape, still life, portraits, moving objects and archetecture. thanks again
"As you can see sometimes, ya need to get your feet wet to get the best shot" - could of been in a guy ritchie film These videos are awesome, I only wish he would put up the photos he take as quick look on the screen so I can see his result (not just with this clip). This feels like it should be on TV, really great presentation & so much content. Thanks so much for having such a great channel!
thank you so much for the explanation and the advices Karl, i dont know why i didnt see this video before on the internet. You are the best, thnx for the video again
now that's the real advanced photographer, getting wet, work hard, maximize camera features and be creative how to see lights in different way. great tips !
Thanks Karl for taking the time to putting this together, it's fascinating to see that you can get great results with just a bright window and a reflector, brilliant!
Using a diffuser or even better, a softbox you can produce the effect of the reflector but at higher cost. You would need a flash, stand, wireless transmitter and receiver or reasonably long remote cable (be careful it doesn't get in shot) and the knuckle to attach all the kit to the stand. I use flashes or a large silvered umbrella to do the same thing... sometimes with a white diffuser sheet over the umbrella, mainly because I don't have the luxury of a beautiful assistant :P I missed a trick!
Canon 1D Series and L glass lenses are weather sealed. You can shoot in the rain with that combo but I don't recommend leaving under water for any length of time.
Hauling on that sunset!!! made me feel good knowing that feeling of capturing the best of the most shots you can get on sunsets. I find the best ones are right before its dark. Thank you for that
I went out at the time mentioned and the pictures came out beautiful:) I used a sheet of music zoomed in and all the colours bounced off all purple and orange:)
As a newbie I was searching the Tube and I saw on another site that when you take away your eye from the lens piece after setting your "settings" (ap, ISO, shutter speed etc) that ambient light can enter the eyepiece and can affect your photo. One suggestion was to cover the eyepiece to negate this affect. Do you feel this is true and if so could you explain why? I tend to question its validity since I don't see other pros covering the eyepiece as they move away from the eyepiece. TIA
Wow thank you so much, this is a fantastic video. It makes me actually want to go check out your dvds & online courses. I have a bunch of foam boards, never thought of using one like that.
Just a quick question. What do you guys do with the pictures you're pleased with. eg. is there websites you upload them to for other photographers to view ,or do you simply frame them ?. thanks

Thanks Karl, I never get bored watching your photo tips. I tend to come back time and again, just for a reminder. Brilliant, thanks again....
I have purchased books and looked on the internet and NEVER have anyone explained this concept as simple as you have. Thanks so much!!!!!
i really love when you said " a magic hour ". good photographer, good teacher, good motivator..

Love your teaching style. Thanks for videos.
Extremely helpful, I don't think I've ever heard the difference between hard and soft light explained and demonstrated so clearly.

Karl, All your vids are excellent and your passion for the art beams thru. Great Work!
wow this was the best lighting testimonial ive ever read or heard! You cant believe how much this has helped me!
The colors brought out by the light and the way the camera captured it were very nice.
Good work.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It's nice to see the pictures to explain what you were trying to convey.
Thank you so much. I'm doing a GRATIS shoot tomo for a friend and needed lessons on indoor photography with zero lighting. This is by far the best explanation on reflectors, in a child-like manner. Thanks again. And Viki is gorgeous, no surgery needed ;)
The King of Photography
I just bought my Nikon D5100 yesterday and you'll be my mentor :)
A big thanks for all your effort.

Great video, hitting right on points with proper examples. Another simple question. What camera were you using. Thanks.
