- Filmed in Bob Dylan's trailer while he was working on the Hollywood movie HEARTS OF FIRE, in which Dylan played a retired rocker called Billy Parker. This clip is part of a BBC 'Omnibus' documentary called 'Getting to Dylan' (1987). Sony blocked use of 'Trust Yourself' but see Vimeo here: vimeo.com/user... The song starts at 25.00
I think this is one of the most honest/down to earth conversations I've ever heard Bob have with someone.
"sometimes it's easier to be polite than it is to be rude"
1:45 says things have changed 20 years later writes things have changed
That's a smart journalist. Handsome Bob.
This is one of the best Dylan interviews I've seen (leaving aside the audio silence in this section)
"Trust Yourself"= GOOD SONG! I can count the number of people I genuinely trust on 1 hand.
god he's so smart
damn boy
That's my favorite thing about him. Who wants a pretty dish with nothing in it?
You got one of the best most natural Dylan interview Christopher, and I still love how the documentary ends with Up To Me,
The recently released ‘Up To Me’ recorded in late ‘74, released on Biograph in ‘85
This is one of the best Dylan interviews....I'm surprised it's not out there more. he's pretty honest and articulate here.
EXACTLY! I watch it all the time. It's priceless!
the greatest human of all time time this man does not have to answer to anyone
He is a great artist, but not the greatest human of all time. That was Mohammed Ali
@@xanadu150 that has to be a personal preference..
Dylan says “I don’t play that game” one of the baddest dudes walking the planet
" Sometimes it's easier to be polite than it is to be rude" ~~Bob Dylan
" Sometimes being rude is more fun than it is to be polite" ~~ Jussi Tikkuri
He has that drawing
Holding a magnifying glass,
Dieses Gespräch im Wohnwagen hat einen großen Reiz in sich - das Abgedunkelte, Deine Intensität - schön!
the way he accents parts of words
i really wish youtube would let me edit comments
i'm so bad at typing
He looks like Keith Richard in this film!
It's scary and crazy how many people commenting " what a great man", "that's Bob being Bob", " only Bob", "I love this man" WTF don't you all hear what he's saying?? You don't know him as much as he knows you. You're all sheep lol. He's an amazing song writer and has a lot of wisdom. But none of you know him from a can of paint. This idolizing is out of control lol
"As real as there gonna be"
So much Bolivian drugs. And he's just like "shucks, heron in the sixties toughened me up, tell ya what!" Such stamina. Such insight.
Did Shakespeare doodle when being interviewed?
So many truths here from Bob.
This is the most talkative i have ever seen him. Its obvious he wants the money not the fame lol. People should just leave him alone but they wont.
Well yeah, heck yeah, trust yourself.
@posthumanhero
I totally understand this response to him ... but just keep in mind that his whole "mysterious and confrontational act" was largely a response to journalists in the sixties who knew nothing about music asking really dumb questions. He also got tagged with "prophet" and "voice of a generation". He didn't actually ask for this. How would you respond to that kind of attention?
I would be flattered but don't try to stop me from evolving and changing like a mother who loves her cute , chubby adoring child until the child hits puberty.
Das Leben ist nicht kurz, sondern lang!
Could you please post part 4 , thanks.
⭐️🎶
Practice makes sense
Bob on Fame and more....
Thank you there’s a lot here to teach folks. Only reason I want fame is so I can hire a great band and play my songs on a never ending tour.
Why did Sony cut out 'trust yourself'?
Kind of cruel of Bob to taunt the guy with the drawing like that.
funny, my 5 year old kid drew much better than that
Bob dylan is an asshole. People should treat him like the prick he is and not pay for his shitty music.
Ignore that im going blind. Thanks for sharing
Grrrr, damn Sony!
is there any cocaine left bob or did you just talked it all away
yup
Apollo Dickens yep,sure
Apollo Dickens .....just bob being bob.......
what he's saying about fame is pretty sad
WTF Sony
Merkur Quadrat Neptun......
Why must Bob be so rude to his fans especially an 18 year old who will be seeing him on Friday in Forest hills. I made a portrait of him I'm quite proud of I would love to meet and give it to him
His reclusive nature is what makes him intriguing. I would love an autograph from him, that's all I desire. The only reason he acts this way is because of creepy stalker type fans and I feel bad for him. If people get something autographed it should be enjoyed and passed down through the generations not cast aside on eBay to make a profit. The autograph loses meaning if it's sold to someone else. It's disrespectful to sell someone's autographs. Only when the individual dies it should be allowed.
I doubt Dylan would care about his song playing, the suits are worthless.
Instinkt und Telepathie - deshalb konntet Ihr Euch auch so gut über Dich bei mir einkoppeln, nicht wahr?
Long lost what's???
WTF SONY
The price of fame
He is tired of so much shit and ignorance in a society that only cares about money
cocaine.
It's called a COLD.
peter fleming ...GENIUS
I personally would hate to be famous.Would I like to have a lot of money? Yes,but the fanous part would freak me out,so I see where Dylan is coming from.He is very talented and you cannot waste that, but he never looked for fame
They always say Dylan doesn't like to be interviewed.....well then stop being so charismatic and interesting and clever.....then people will stop wanting to interview you. But that will never happen, Dylan will never be stop being interesting and charismatic. He couldn't do it if he tried. Alas, that's what makes him so awesome.
he is so charming that Cassanova has absolutely nothing on him lol
ha ha ha yes he has to stop being so charismatic and we would stop wanting to hear him explain his world to us!!
1:18 Love this bit of how people will act different before and after Dylan enters a pub/room.
I think Bobby is a little coked up here. A little more talkative than usual. A little case of the sniffles
Best Dyaln interview of all time. Not even close. He even takes the time to show off his other talent. Wow what an artist.
EXACTLY! It is his best interview of all time I think.
How can Sony have a copyright on him talking? That's so crazy...
It's disgusting
It's a copyright on the song he starts to sing...which he has written with Tom Perry. Crazy indeed..but easily found in TH-cam!!
Life is short and I pray for you, Bob Dylan, carry on 💞 Elizabeth
i wish i was trapped in an elevator with dylan..to be trapped in a room with the most interesting person alive.....so cool:)
he's comments on fame are so poignant and true
-and he's not being mean people...how is being mean?????
i know some mean people...dylan isn't mean
Best comment.
Are you sure its not for idk…. Other reasons? 😏
Hehe bet that reporter would've loved to get his hands on that drawing... But nope!
I have the drawing!
@@ChristopherSykesDocumentaries Post a photo Mr Sykes, we don't believe you 😊

I love you so much darling and I always pray for you, Bob Dylan, Elizabeth ❣️🙏
People react to famous people? The Holy Bible says being a respector of persons is a sin.
If Bob would walk into my room things would certainly change ha ha ha!! He has to forgive me but I think I would STARE at him lol !!!
Everything would be changed and nothing would be real any more.....lol
this guy is so fuckin real...I love him
als er die Zigarette anzündete, could I smell the smoke...
Yeah, well things certainly have changed.
Trust yourself is not allowed
anyone know what bob dylan book he holds up?
"Lyrics, 1962-1985", Knopf (1985)
"Dylan is thy shepherd..." - Matthew 12:19
I don't play anyyyy games.
"Ships passing in the night" where being candid can be perceived as " polite". It is an impure world where a "celebrity" misses out on a chance encounter where the other is also a "celebrity" hailing from another culture and country travelling "incognito". Destiny sometimes calls for improvisation or wearing the mask of discernment.
Among the almost insurmountable canon of Dylan songs, 'Trust Yourself' is almost never mentioned as being one of his great ones. And yet, as he references it here himself, I think it's one of those few songs of his that reflects the real, unabridged libertine individualism of His Bobness.
"You're on your own, you always were, in a land of wolves and thieves..." As true, or truer, today as it was in 1986.
Bob, as an interview subject, was never very good at off the cuff visions of himself. He never really was. Unless of course, he was in the mood, so to speak, to Be seen. When he was mush younger it was a different story, altogether. Twenty years before this man came about, Dylan was in a completely different position; in many ways...politically, financially, and in need of coverage. Many things were also different as well. This was clear, to everyone; and John Lennon was still unmolested, to consider the very idea of artist as subject, Or as an object of interests.
Hendrix, Morrison and others were also free to walk in peace, or whatever. These days in the 80s for example were wholely mush freer as it stood. Our country saw everything in a much more innoocent light. To be sure. We were ALL changed since that day in Dallas with JFK, then with MLK and again, with Bobby... those three events really spun us around in a violent and permanently, forever.
Bob loves those cigarettes!
Dave897456 ....looks more like a nervous habit ..he really doesn’t inhale
That why he great voice went to shit slowly over the years
Just ask him why he uses the symbolism he uses? ?😲 Top song writer 😉 but be real about the Horus eye?? I sead that !!?😅
Sometimes we just want to understand what it is that we are attracted to . For me I find Bob Dylan writes music I like but I also like manay other musicans and kind of wish I had that as a talent. We each need to tend our own gardens
Es steht Dir genauso gut wie mir, wenn Du Deine Augen betonst!! Wir beide haben ja eher helle Augen, da wirkt der Kontrast: FALCO benötigt keine solche Akzentuierung, weil er so dunkle Augen hat.
If I meet Bob I have to ask him to explain reality to me. I'm sure he knows.....lol
Thats because you can't reproduce Bob Dylan like you can a guitar. Music isnt free on the radio. You have to listen to advertisements and some people buy the shit they advertise. I just wish they would have cut the song out of the interview. The radio sucks anyways. Ive never heard one Bob Dylan song on the radio.
Du bist hiermit "schuldig" gesprochen! Und das bedeutet, na was? - "Gefängnis"!
what he's saying about walking in the room...
that might be cool then you could start entertaining
Ich sage nur, schau: "Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach"....!
"Sometimes it's easier to be polite than it is to be rude." ::Judge it how:: "Instinct."
And as he said it's also easier to be rude than to be polite. Instinct.
He kinda reminds me of Bruce Lee's Martial art,the art of fighting without fighting.
Bob Dylan u are one cool guy u know all the words.
Der Wohnwagen passt viel besser zu Dir als eine Villa!
thanks for posting - bummer some of the audio got deleted
Diesen "Steckbrief" kannte ich doch schon.
Sony sucks ,just ask Michael Jackson RIP
looks like Gordon Lightfoot lol
Awe , just trust yourself.
Instinct, yes indeed
Dylan is left-handed, but here he is sketching right-handed. Wonder if he's wondering if anyone would notice. I noticed.
Left handed? Bob Dylan isn't left handed.
He definitely plays guitar righty wtf you talkin bout
This is one very bright dude.
He was probably going to use that drawing for some occult ritual.
You asswipe
A good way to start my day.
when the sound goes off when they played Trust Yourself, Dylan said, "now its time to play Trust Yourself for your movie".
You can see it with sound - and the music - here (for free!) vimeo.com/user3209301/httpsvimeocommeet-bob-dylan
@@ChristopherSykesDocumentaries Thank you!!!!!
@@ChristopherSykesDocumentaries I recognised your name: you lucky man!!! Richard Feynman-- whom I love-- and Dylan.. nice work if you can get it. I've seen all your Feynman vids! Thank you.
Bob does his art work right handed here, but in the other video where he signs his autograph for the big bearded "wrestler" guy and the girls, he signs with his left hand. Bob must be ambidextrous...
Thomas De Lello
amphibious - naw Bob can't be bothered by autograph shit, so he fucks with them.
Nate Smith
Or he just keeps adding to the mystery
Man, he looks batshit crazy in this series of interviews.
pwitte777 ...torn and frayed he’s still a genius
Amazing
Maybe I’ll keep this here for a while. It’ll kinda remind me of you when you leave.
thanks for this doco-----rare
