Interesting listening to your progression. I have always had a bit of an interest in anything related to rolling marbles. Started as a kid with a physical game called "Run yourself ragged", then arcade games such as Marble madness, and a few other Rolling games such as Switchball, Proun etc. Pinball games on Amiga and PC, consoles. Oddly I also didnt really play physical pinball games much as a kid as didnt have the coin. However your comments also just reminded me of a distant memory of having a basic toy pinball game as a pre teen. I was right into digital pinball (mostly Future Pinball) about 10 or more years back prior to starting a family, ran a website called pinballaddicts.com but once my first child came along it all went by the wayside, just in the last few weeks I was reintroduced to VPX by a friend and amazed how far it has come along. I now have a couple of "roadside trash find" 42" 1080p and 32" 720p TVs on my dining table connected to my laptop and have had a few late nights, next step is to box them and get some buttons before my wife puts them back out on the road.
Thanks for sharing that backstory! Good ol' Marble Madness - I have a love hate relationship with that game! I hope you can get a permanent virtual pin setup so you can enjoy all the amazing tables that are now available. Cheers.
@@SpaciesArcade It's now a week later and the dining table is still out of action due to being dominated by the screens but it's wearing thin with the wife. Now contemplating building a box that looks a little different to the usual virtual pinball tables. Also just discovered Whitewater by Flupper, am in love with the physics in that particular table which seem about the most realistic I've played in VPX so far, any other table suggestions with a similar feel? I also got flupper's TOTAN, which feels a little different although still nice, I am aware that I can export and import table physics.
I've actually bought a virtuapin, the extreme widebody 4k model. I'm just waiting for it to come in. Covid-19 is just killing a lot, including delivery dates. Hi Jay. One of your favorite games are included in my first 3 all-time favorites are: 1st. "Black Knight", 2nd. "Gorgar" and 3rd. "Blackout". Coincidentally they all are "Williams" tables, and that's because at that time (late 70's and early 80's), "Williams" tables had very longer playtime per ball than those of "Bally" and "Gottlieb", the main competitors of "Williams" at that time. From them "Gorgar" was my first favorite pinball machine because it could "speak", at that time it was the only machine that could "speak". And it was the first machine I reached a high score that lasted many months on that machine.
finally! just wanna congratulate you for working the pov and enviroment emision on your tables, vpx tables look so much more realistic with low brightness levels ans a good set pov, i did these modifications on every table on my vpin cab and its a game changer, all this guys with superb cabs and they have all the tables with 100% brightness.... they look awfull, real pinball tables had different levels of brightness and dark zones on the playfield
Thanks! I like to tune them as if they are in a darkened room and try and get the POV even. I agree with you 100% I’m not keen on the uniformed daylight look and flat (or strange layback) settings.... it sure does make a difference to the immersion factor. Thanks for your comments. 😊

My anxiety and lack of money prevents me from going out to find and play real tables, so digital does the job. I only got into it back in Pinball FX2, and now into Pinball FX3, as well as a pack in Pinball Arcade, and even some Zaccaria Pinball tables. I'm currently up to 79 tables on FX3, and I love to just hop on and play for a while. I'm top 100 on a few of the originals/licensed tables. Not even close on the Williams ones. Speaking of digital though, Devil Crush and Alien Crush were great. There's one on Genesis I can't remember the name of for some reason, that had music/sounds by the same guy that did the Black Knight 2000 stuff, and it's great.

I played a lot of Firepower on the Wii, part of one of the Pinball sets. Never even noticed it uses Defender sounds -- I watched a lot of D, but never played it.
if i use my current gaming pc and kinda make a break away table playfield and use my gaming pc for both vpb and gaming can i switch the front end to normal pc when im not wanting to play pinball so i dont have to do a whole nother pc build?
Yes, you can use a dual multi-out hdmi box for that pc. I show mine in one of my episodes in the arcade area. One output going to your pincab and the other to a screen you want to play games on. All your pincab controls will stay active but you just use additional xbox controllers etc for playing your games once you switch screens using the hdmi switcher box. If this is not clear let me know and I’ll work out which episode i covered my setup in which shares two screens across a PC, PS3 and PS4, both separately and and two devices concurrently.
The thing with owning a virtual pinball table is that you will save money. Meaning that you do not pay for the upkeep of parts {as you would with an mechanical machine.
Where did you find all the full screen versions of the Pinball tables? I can only find full screen versions of tables on vpforums that are visual pinball 9.
Hey Darrin. Here are the sources I use (You'll need to sign up to each forum to get access of course). www.vpforums.org/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=51 vpuniverse.com/forums/files/category/82-visual-pinball-10-tables/ vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/categories/vpx-tables/ www.monsterbashpincab.com/download-page/tables-vpx/ Hope this helps :)
Do any of your virtual pinball games save and store your high score. My virtual pinball machine only saves high score while your playing, but does not store any of them. Thanks for your answer in advance Roger K
Hi Roger, yes. pinmame creates nvram files for each table on startup and saves settings and hiscores to that file. Check your paths in pinmame and ensure the directory is not read only. You should have a '.nv. file for each table you have played. Head over to vpforums.org and do a search there if you get stuck as there is a number of threads where people have had issues with various fixes. Hope this helps. Cheers.
The pc is actually very old however it does have a GTX 1080 for graphics. This helped a lot in performance but I suspect the cpu is throttling performance still. I have also dialed down the graphics settings within Visual pinball itself so it is not running at the highest fidelity. Windows is 32bit which doesn’t allow me to have more than 4gig ram which (with the graphics card) can cause out of memory errors in VP if I dial up the settings to much. I hope to upgrade the motherboard, cpu, ram and OS (to 64bit win) at a later stage and perhaps even swap in a 4K display as some tables are being released at this resolution. Will be a while until I get to this though as I have plenty of projects to do in the meantime! Cheers.
Great list! Would you mind sharing your screen settings (vpx backdrop) for Indiana Jones? It's the one table I can't seem to get right, and yours looks great.
Sure Justin. I'm using VP9 physmod version for that table. My settings are: Inclination: 15 FOV: 30 Layback: 60 XY: 270 X scale: 1.4 Y scale: 1.83 Z Scale: 1 x offset: -465 y offset: 212 Z Offset: 0 Hope this helps!! Cheers.
Greg, another fun video. I'm currently building my VP table from scratch (I'm brave) and I'm about the put the playfield in. What is the measurement of your front or lower playfield and rear playfield? I like how the slant makes it even look like it has dept even over a 2d video. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
I’m at work ATM so can’t measure exactly but what I will say is the front is dropped by an amount that is equal to the combination of the Launch button and the plunger that is under neither it. This is because the TV basically sits just above the plunger pipe. So what I recommend is that you install your launch button and plunger first and then you should find that the screen can then go on top of the plunger so it fits right. This should give you the same amount of drop that I have at the front. I hope this makes sense? Take another look at my video and you’ll see how I have the launch button and plunger on top of each other. The plunger pipe has to go under the screen of course so you have to put the screen on top of where it comes through into the cabinet. In terms of the back part of the play field it effectively comes up to meet the glass (probably just one cm to the glass). I hope that helps and if it isn’t clear what I’m saying just let me know! Cheers.
Second comment because I can't edit with this app. You mentioned how if you're playing a real table, you'll probably play only a couple tables a lot, until you get good at them. And yeah, I have the same problem as you. I have 79 tables on FX3 at the moment, plus one pack on Pinball Arcade, and a handful on Zaccaria Pinball. I switch back and forth between tables all the time. I'll get irritated at one, swap to another, get irrated at that one, swap to another. I don't play one table long enough to really learn the rules, or shots. I just kinda hit whatever's blinking and hope for the best. I love digital pinball, but I do wish I was somehow more constrained at times. With so many tables, I'm not likely to ever get REALLY good at any of them unless I just force myself to ignore them and only focus on one. Which just kinda feels like a waste of money to me. Might be different if I didn't spend money on these tables. If I was just using VPX or something, and downloading them for free. But having spent money on them, and not having much money to begin with, I almost feel obligated to play them all.
Yep! This is a constant challenge for me too...I haven’t found an easy answer. I think over time Ive gravitated to a certain limited set and that’s helped but then I feel like I’m missing out on experiencing the other tables!...no win situation.... :)
I think it was from a shared source on the pinballx forums. Head over there and you should find a thread on dmd videos including other ones that people have shared.
Hi Wilson. Yes, It's in a real cabinet. It used to be a 1978 Williams World Cup cab. I converted it as it was essentially gutted (no electronics or wiring). Only the backglass and play field were in it which are now hanging on the wall in the arcade. Cheers.
Enjoyed hearing of your history of pinball. Do you think pinball is for the left-brain types? I have always been more left than right-brained, and was even more so when younger.
Wow that’s a damn good question however I have no idea!!! Would be interesting to know to see if it helps being one or the other....either way I guess you can still have fun playing :)
Great top 10. My favorite is still Twilight Zone (the real one). Had one but sold it unfortunately. From above its looks like the real pins. Great VP Gregg. How big is the lcd playfield screen btw? Love to see the VP10 pins :D
Hey Mario! I must admit when I played that real Twilight Zone with DK in that other video I really did like the real table. The virtual version is a little tough to play as there is so much on that table that even when it is fake 3D it’s still hard to make everything out! If I played the real one more I might find the VP one better. Either way it is a sensational table in real life. In terms of the LCD play field it is an older 37.5” screen which you can’t really get anymore. However newer ones have really thin bezels so it could be possible to squeeze in a 40” display into a normal width pinball cab if it has micro bezels (obviously you could get a bigger one in a wide body cabinet). Also some of those tables were actually VP10 but looking forward to getting more updates of my vp9 tables that’s for sure. They really are amazing and as you say its almost like playing the real pins! Cheers.
I have several of the real tables. And I spent a lot of time getting the virtual ones to work. I tricked myself that it didn't matter, they are so close to each other. But, alas, nothing compares to the real deal. Especially Indiana Jones. You can't beat escaping into the miniature world and true real pinball. I can't afford ALL of those tables so Vpin will have to do but once you have the real ones... I can't go back. And you sink thousands of dollars into the darn things.
Great list dude. I've only ever owned real pinballs but I can see VPs appeal. How come the lack of Stern or Jersey Jack games? You not into them? Can't get them on VP?

TOTAN is also one of my favorites, I see you still play the original jpsalas table, take a look at the updated 4k shiny mod - www.vpforums.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11857 I think this one plays better, lights are correctly emulated in the table vs. the original, the ramps are much more realistic and the PF artwork is super high res... what a great table.
Thanks agwood. I've really come accustomed to that version. I have checked out others in the past but keep coming back to this one for some reason. Maybe I've got 'used to it'. I'll take a look at that one you mention. It would be nicer though if I had a 4k display in there...hmmmm one day. Either way TOTAN is awesome!
Hi, thanks for the video. I am looking for one now because of it. Can you do me a favor and tell me if the following info on a machine is top quality? I don't want to get stuck with crap, any upgrades you would do on it? Thanks Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4 Ghz 8 GB RAM Total hard drive space = 1 Terabyte (500 GB ssd samsung evo hard drive and 500 GB hybrid hard drive ) Asus GeForce GTX 1050 video card 43" 4k TCL TV playfield (no lag) 32" LG TV backglass PinDMD 3 Color Dot matrix display Zeb boards plunger and tilt V3 Cambridge soundworks 4.1 sound system (4 speakers with a sub woofer) Wifi adapter (download more pinball tables right into the machine) Windows 10 Premium operating system Wireless keyboard and mouse Built as a Williams widebody pinball cabinet. Tempered glass for above playfield. Original Williams widebody handrest, legs and plunger. Pivoting backboard head for transport, as well the legs can easily be removed if you dont have a van or tuck for transportation. Change door with keys (no change mechanism , but can be installed). Lighted buttons on the left (START ,COIN , EXIT, UP and DOWN) and the big Start/launch ball button on the right with the plunger the launch ball button will skill launch the ball in every game if you dont want to use the plunger.
I would up the ram to 16gigs and up the video card to a gtx1080 if you want to push 4K around smoothly. I’ve had some issues with the zebs board plunger due to proximity of the accelerometer being under the plunger. It can cause false nudge triggers when plunging (I’m still determining if this can be configured out). No TV will have ‘No Lag’. When I see that it sends warning signals about what else is overstated. Not sure if you need up and down buttons on front. I just use flippers to do this. No mention if you have extra magnasave buttons ( if those tables are important to you)... hope this helps.

I just bought a table with Pinball x and i find all the stern tables and sega are all terrible, there buggy and poorly designed simplistic and the only ones worth playing IMO are the Williams and Bally. The gameplay on those 2 companies is brilliant.
I must admit I also love williams and bally tables as a preference. However there are some diamonds in the rough across other manufacturers. I am warming to the very latest Sterns too like Ghostbusters... But it's hard to top the bally/williams classics, that's for sure.

Well I can't say I'm a fan of any current series in that I don't think I've seen a single episode! But, back in 1978 Battlestar Galactica was the new kid on the block just after Star Wars broke and I watched the premier movie. It was good but Star Wars over shadowed it in my mind at the time. Haven't revisited it since...but now that you've bought it up I might just try and track down a remastered edition of the original movie and who knows, it may lead me on to the more modern series!
You never seen the new (2003) series? Man, If I could recommend a single Tv show it would be that one. This first episode isn't the best, but if you're not hooked by episode 3, I'll eat my hat. The old series was cheesy and riding off the Starwars hype, but the 2003 reimagined is amazingly good TV. Episode titled "33" is considered one of the best tv episodes in all syfy if not all TV in general. Highly recommend!
Nick, I will try and find the 2003 series to check it out! But you may need to get your hat ready ;P ... I don't mind the cheesy stuff back in the day when watching it now - it adds to the fun. But if the new series is good modern(ish) scifi then it sounds like it is worth checking out. Not to mention that you've recommended it so it must be good... :P

Where did you find all the full screen versions of the Pinball tables? I can only find full screen versions of tables on vpforums that are visual pinball 9.
Hey Darrin. Here are the sources I use (You'll need to sign up to each forum to get access of course).
www.vpforums.org/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=51
vpuniverse.com/forums/files/category/82-visual-pinball-10-tables/
vpinball.com/VPBdownloads/categories/vpx-tables/
www.monsterbashpincab.com/download-page/tables-vpx/
Hope this helps :)
Spacies Arcade thank you, that will help a lot. Getting a small 24" virtual pinball machine made this weekend.
Do any of your virtual pinball games save and store your high score. My virtual pinball machine only saves high score while your playing, but does not store any of them.
Thanks for your answer in advance
Roger K
Hi Roger, yes. pinmame creates nvram files for each table on startup and saves settings and hiscores to that file. Check your paths in pinmame and ensure the directory is not read only. You should have a '.nv. file for each table you have played. Head over to vpforums.org and do a search there if you get stuck as there is a number of threads where people have had issues with various fixes. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Great video...your VPIN is very smooth...care to share the specs?
My settings are:
Inclination: 15
FOV: 30
Layback: 60
XY: 270
X scale: 1.4
Y scale: 1.83
Z Scale: 1
x offset: -465
y offset: 212
Z Offset: 0
Hope this helps!! Cheers.
Sorry "Dustin"... !
Thanks!
Hey, where did you get the "press start" dmd video?
I think it was from a shared source on the pinballx forums. Head over there and you should find a thread on dmd videos including other ones that people have shared.
Cool thanks mate
Is your VP inside an actual Pinball cabinet? Usually dont see the silver shield on bottomm and sides.
Hi Wilson. Yes, It's in a real cabinet. It used to be a 1978 Williams World Cup cab. I converted it as it was essentially gutted (no electronics or wiring). Only the backglass and play field were in it which are now hanging on the wall in the arcade. Cheers.
How well did it fit? What dimension monitor did you use. Remove the frame from monitor? Better yet, did you post your build?
Enjoyed hearing of your history of pinball. Do you think pinball is for the left-brain types? I have always been more left than right-brained, and was even more so when younger.
Wow that’s a damn good question however I have no idea!!! Would be interesting to know to see if it helps being one or the other....either way I guess you can still have fun playing :)
I agree.
You are spot on. Agreed 100% :)
Great list dude. I've only ever owned real pinballs but I can see VPs appeal. How come the lack of Stern or Jersey Jack games? You not into them? Can't get them on VP?
That is because the newer Sterns Spike Systems can´t be emulated yet. Also Jersey Jack games cant be for now. But this will maybe change in the Future
Bambi Plattfuss what about Sam system games? There's loads of good ones, are they not supported either?
All SAM Systems are Supoorted! And working flawless! Even with Full colored Roms and DMD

Example: AC/DC Le, Star Trek LE, Walking Dead LE. All are working fine
Bambi Plattfuss nah it's not my thing tbh. I only buy the genuine article. Need that physicality. It's interesting how far VP has come though
Good List… I need that “Press Start” DmD vid… I can’t find it anywhere... Please share.
Thanks
Intel i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Total hard drive space = 1 Terabyte
(500 GB ssd samsung evo hard drive
and 500 GB hybrid hard drive )
Asus GeForce GTX 1050 video card
43" 4k TCL TV playfield (no lag)
32" LG TV backglass
PinDMD 3 Color Dot matrix display
Zeb boards plunger and tilt V3
Cambridge soundworks 4.1 sound system (4 speakers with a sub woofer)
Wifi adapter (download more pinball tables right into the machine)
Windows 10 Premium operating system
Wireless keyboard and mouse
Built as a Williams widebody pinball cabinet.
Tempered glass for above playfield.
Original Williams widebody handrest, legs and plunger.
Pivoting backboard head for transport, as well the legs can easily be removed if you dont have a van or tuck for transportation.
Change door with keys (no change mechanism , but can be installed).
Lighted buttons on the left (START ,COIN , EXIT, UP and DOWN) and the big Start/launch ball button on the right
with the plunger the launch ball button will skill launch the ball in every game if you dont want to use the plunger.
@@SpaciesArcade Thank you for your time, it helps greatly.
You are most welcome! Enjoy your virtual pin when you get it! Cheers 👍

Cool thanks for sharing Bambi! :)
no Problem. Our Community is sharing and caring
If you're not much of a Trekkie, I hope you're at least a Battlestar Galactica Nerd. I know I am!

Wait... Attack From Mars AND Medieval Madness but no Monster Bash?
Dislike :P
LOL!...There were many more I wanted to include!!! Too many great tables :)
