We albanians, love the western community. So maybe being part of EU wouldn't just grow our economy, but even the mentality would change. Behave Ukraine's invasion, WB has tried cooperating and making friendlier relations, but the russian influence on countries like Bosnia or Serbia is extremely strong. We ain't different from Europe as a region, but EU needs to invest to stop the influence's at least at Albania, N.Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo. Thanks

Becoming part of the EU means you have a wide opportunity within Europe, the European Market, competition in tech and sharing it throughout Europe, travel, work, living in any EU country, expanding rail system connecting all of Europe and understanding other cultures through travel to remove biases and towards understanding each other better..
So nationalists would say no, but this has always been true within Europe, give people the freedom to travel and work throughout Europe and people become more diverse in their mindset and therefore opportunities are becoming wide open for people.
The EU has eventually turned into a political superpower to expand within Europe to go beyond war towards collaboration.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Russia joining the EU after drastic reforms and drastic social restructuring Russia and Russians to integrate them into the EU someday, (I mean the western European part of Russia)
but that's likely a future plan the EU has for Russia, who knows.
But until then the Balkans and Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia are on the list.
Albania and Montenegro are probably the first real candidates to join the EU first.

I Albance! Nisu svi svjesni da Skanderbeg's statue and street name were given by every country in Europe. Only him and no one else! First, Kim doesn't stomp the whole world since Napoleon. And every country in the EU has a statue of Skanderbeg, even streets are named after him. After a lot of reading and learning about Albanians, I can only say one thing to them, Thank you that we in the EU are not Muslims, because without you! We would be today. I would worship the wrong religion. Thank you Albanians, they are God's people.

Stop calling us “the Balkans” please for heavens sake I’m sick and tired of it. We are Mediterranean, ethnically, historically and culturally since always, literally situated between Greece and Italy. Calling us “the Balkans”, a Turkish toponym, is just as bad as calling us “Yugoslavs”. Both of those are foreign and have oppressed us (funny enough because we were staunch westerners back in the day). I actually take great offense in this, it’s deeply provocative. I know we have internalized it ourselves but it’s still wrong. Anyways, thanks for helping us out and not abandoning us as you’ve done in the past when we put our ancestors put their lives on the line for western civilization and sacrificed it all before we eventually became victims of Slavic and Turkish anti western aggression. Sure, we can be friends, but don’t call us the same.

@@forzaazzurri1471 if anyone wonders why I say that we were oppressed because we were westerners, let me just sum up something very complex and that I could go on with for ages. It’s easy to look at Albania today and see that we are a majority Muslim country and hell how could we ever be western? Well, if you go back before we became majority Muslim, what you would find is that Albania was situated right in the middle of the Western Catholic and Eastern Orthodox world. Albania was a very important base for the west to confront the East during the great schism. Our first king was French, Charles of Anjou. He declared Albania a kingdom and separated it from the Byzantine empire which we belonged to even though we were always culturally and politically tied to the west. Proof of this is our Albanian language alone, that is semi-latin, about half our words have latin origin. Now on the other hand, we were always persecuted by the Eastern Orthodox forces for being Catholic, or for being orthodox but tied to the west. Look at what Greeks have done to orthodox Albanians throughout the ages, even in modern times. You would be killed for uttering Albanian inside the church. As an orthodox. When Serbia converted to orthodoxy the first thing they did was harass Albanians, that’s how they stole our Dardania and named it Kosovo Metohije (church land). Prior to that it was Dardania, an integrated part of the Roman Empire, Urbis Dardaniae, Dardania Sacra, with their own diocese and everything. If you google “arbanaska vera” you can read about how Serbs labeled us “Catholic heretics” and “Latins” and how Catholic was synonymous with “Albanian faith” (arbanaska vera), this is what we had to endure for centuries before the arrival of the Turks. Later the Turks granted great rights to both Greek and Slavic orthodox churches whereas Albanians weren’t even allowed to speak or learn Albanian. Under these circumstances many naturally became Muslim as the other option was to be forcefully slavinized. This is why a majority of Albanians are muslims bordering Slavic nations whilst in mainland Albania it’s a mix. Regardless, the soul of Albania is staunchly Catholic. It is manifest in our language, in our culture, in our customs, everything. I haven’t even mentioned Scanderbeg and his resistance against the Ottomans on behalf of the whole western world and who is celebrated everywhere in the West not least Italy where the Arberesh live and they remember the Sacrifice the Albanians gave for the protection of Rome itself. Shame how we forgot our roots due to subjugation by the Turks and the Slavs. For being just that, Westerners.

The Balkans most likely comes as a word from Bulgaria, but alright. Also, Albania does fit the Balkans and you can't raelly deny it that much, I mean, so does Greece.

You think that the mentality is that drown in here? I'm not saying that we are completely western minded, but at least our community would accept being part of the EU, as 95% of albanians are pro-european. Let's talk about the invasion all around the Balkans, as a peninsula. What happened while Albania was also invaded? Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus was also invaded by the ottoman empire (how long? No big changes still) Most of the albanians have emmigrated once in their life and people here might tell stories about living in Germany, Greece or Italy when our country became democratic. So those people have an idea how a country should really work, and every time there are big investments here they say, Ah finally Albania is pushing forward and may it reach the european standarts. Somehow what you're saying is 0% true, and you have no idea about Albania. Shame on you spreading misinformations...

There is absolutely no economic change on the Albanian contrary, unless by change you mean the weakening of every critical sector(agriculture, industry, production, tech) in favour of construction and a dubious real estate boom, which is driving this gdp growth that you mention. Adding to this the brain drain currently suffered by the albanian society and gross governmental power abuse and corruption, which no one expects you you to mention in your report, and yeah Albania is on its way to the EU. In 2124
