BMW engine refresh - resealing my e36 touring M43 engine

  • Let's talk about facts... BMW engines do leak oil. Mine was no exception. Thins thing really needed to go out to have it's seals replaced. I am super happy with the result and for the engine that will be used for only one more season I think I did more than I had to. Well it's not yet fully connected and hhaven't been started yet so keep your fingers crossed for it. Let's hope I fixed those oil leaks.

      No problem. I love mine as well mainly because of reliability like you said. I’m planning the swap but mainly to experience something new, not because I don’t like the engine. And no problem 😁 glad you liked the video 🙌

    Szacun za kawał dobrej roboty i że ci się chciało :D Ludzie przeważnie doceniają tylko R6 w BMW, a M43 to bardzo udany i pancerny silnik. Moje M43b16 ma przejechane ponad 500.000km i nie bierze ani grama oleju na 10.000km,a jedyne problemy jakie z nim miałem to padła pompa wody (koszt nowej to ~120zł XD, a wymiana dziecinnie prosta) i standardowo w tym silniku - pocenie się z pokryw rozrządu (uszczelki kosztuje grosze, jedynie roboty na pare godzin).

    • @gorillaprojectcar
      @gorillaprojectcar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dzięki wielkie. Tez uważam ze to bardzo dobry silnik. Szczególnie po zajrzeniu do środka. Mega pancerny w porównaniu ro nowych 💪 mój plan to wrzucenie m42 w przyszła zimę ale m43 zasługiwało na godne odejście :)

    As far as silicone RTV goes, not a fan of using it when the manual doesn't specify it. However when using RTV it's a good idea to use a single continuous bead about 2mm thick, the idea behind it is similar to how thermal paste works on a computer CPU, gets rid of any airlocks. That being said it's awesome seeing an M43 being cleaned up, they're not very desirable engines, but I think that makes them a little more special

    I´ve been looking for videos on this engine for ages and did not find this one until today, you made all that work look so simple that looks like anyone could do it ! but I won´t, instead I may book some holidays to Poland to do mine together if you won´t mind and bring it refreshed then.
    + I have to say I love that what you said "The best engine ever made in the World" !! awesome !!
    more hoodies (but not whitet hough ) and ..
    any more videos on this engine? please!!
    btw, editting comment just to let you know I searched for " M43TUB19 oil pan " and this one was first video in the list after a short about "oil pan upgrade" , mine is E46 M43TUB19 , same engine looks like.

      well feel invited ;) this engine is rather simple and I bet anyone could do it. There is a lot of cutting and editting while making a video that's why it looks simple xD

    Unless you did use rtv silicone between the top and bottom time chain cover, it will most likely start to leak over time at the rubber that separate the two covers.

    Nice video and a nice resealing! These engines look a lot easier to work on compared to the newer N42 engines. By the way, maybe for the next video it is possible to fix the focus of the camera. I'm not sure what is going wrong, but a lot of times it looks like the camera puts the focus on the wrong objects :)

    • @gorillaprojectcar
      @gorillaprojectcar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks :) you’re right about those being heaps easier to work on compared to n42. Thanks for the advice with focus. You’re right. You can tell that I could take more time and either manually set focus or just lock it on what it should show 💪

    First of all, contrats for the nice job. I already worked a lot on this engine that was my first bmw 16 years ago (still have the car in my collection)
    I think it's the car that gave me desire to become bmw mechanician !
    Greetings from belgium !
    Ps : i would like to get your valve remover tool reference, it looks very good to work whitout head removal !

      Hi and thanks a lot! My tool is not available anymore. I have it for many years. I tried to find a similar and came across this one -> try googling "A-EVS3". looks even better than mine. I'm not sure about shipping to Belgium but I guess that some companies may do it and maybe there is even a similar tool where you are. I don't with I had my first car ever but I do miss all other ones that I've had xD

    You know m43 is the engine I hate and love at the same time. It is very simple to work on, bulletproof engine really cheap to maintain 4litres of oil, 4 sparkplugs.
    But sometimes you want more power. Id like to see a version of m43 but with more power, lets say an m43 2.5. Somehow this engine never left me on the road, its 30 yars old and still runs.
    Anyway good job Id like to do the same job but i have no garage myself.

    • @gorillaprojectcar
      @gorillaprojectcar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same feeling. I like it for its simplicity but on highways I’d like it to have at least 30more hp. Mine still needs a lot of work but I’m hoping not to do it and instead do swap this winter. We will see 😉
      Thanks a lot. Maybe one of your mates have a garage? If you’d try I think it’s 2-3 days of work if you have all the parts prepared. Takes me more because of recording 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @Medvediu1

    • @Medvediu1
      @Medvediu1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gorillaprojectcar theres a big plus to a swap, you pay less for tax and insurance, but at the same time you drive a bigger engine. Still a little tricky and if the laws change there is a lot of headache if you have a swap.

    • @gorillaprojectcar
      @gorillaprojectcar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the law in your country. In Poland you can legalize your swap. But if you wouldn’t want to do that you could go with m42 or m44. Still 4 cylinder engine and it’s a factory swap so wouldn’t look that suspicious 🤫

    • @gorillaprojectcar

      Sure ;) first remove the first part of drive shaft. It’s in a way :) then you remove gearbox mount, make sure to have something supporting the transmission while you unbolt that mount so it doesn’t drop. Then you need a lot of extensions and it’s possible to unbolt quite easily ;)

    • @gorillaprojectcar
      @gorillaprojectcar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Od i understand correctly no. Then you would have water in oil.
      If you have water in cylinder it’s cracked block, head or head gasket. Ok there is one more space between two parts of intake manifold that can potentially crack and therefore leak into cylinder via intake manifold but very unlikely.

Since I have another car and I’m rebuilding a house I don’t have time to look into it so the car sits… it’s hard to justify spending time and/or money on getting that thing started when I also need to spend the time and money on M42 rebuild 😁
