- Cold war espionage thriller, adapted for radio. Starring Tom Baker.
An English book publisher (Baker) is approached by a mysterious woman wielding a bulky manuscript, at a book fair behind the Iron Curtain, and asked to keep a promise he had made to publish a volume of memoirs written by a Soviet scientist. But the memoirs are of more than passing interest to British military intelligence, as they seem to contain clues to the top secret workings of a nuclear weapons system.
Adapted for radio by the BBC, from the novel, as a full cast dramatisation.

This is going to be a great story, can't wait to listen part 2, 3 and 4.
There is a theme running through this though - Portugal, disillusioned yet committed people ( think the honourable schoolboy) and redemption does arrive…

Yikes. Not fair, but after seeing the film, and Michelle Pfeiffer, that rather unattractive voice of the woman Katya is rather off-putting. See how it develops.
Yes , every Le Carre cliche is here ! The usual bunch of supercilious ex public school boys who think they are doing a REALLY important job. Even the dialogue
