In this episode of DD Speed Shop, we share major updates and exciting news. We address the elephant in the room about Hot Rod Power Tour, handling the frustrations of car building, and our search for a new property. Plus we open some packages that got Dannie EXCITED!, and some more Mur tool reviews!
Bummer you guys won't be doing Power Tour this year, but priorities take the front seat. Hopefully we'll see you next year! Bring Mur with you guys!
That would be fun!
The dynamic between Dan, Dani and Mur shows that family values are alive and well. The car content is just icing on the cake.
My buddy was gifted a 57 210 Beauville and I told him to give me a little time to look into it. TH-cam research, included you first, told me he could have it dropped at my place and I will get it rolling enough for him to drive it home. This summer is finishing it up. That is my reintroduction to old cars. You helped. Now I have another running driving little demon for my own to wrench on. Thanks to your enthusiasm.
That's awesome man+
Enjoying the weekly Mur show again.
I took auto shop at SCRSS. I stareted before i had my licence. I turned 16 in june, but shop teacher suggested i leave class and returned when i could drive. Changed his tune when i got top marks in his class.only a few months in, we moved and i never got to complete even my first year.
When i was in high school we didn't have auto shop. We did have industrial arts, wood and metal shop.
But when i think about high school auto shop the first thing that i think of is the movie Christine. Poor Mr Casey having to deal with Buddy Repperton and his friends.
Love the videos and all 3 of you guys.
Bummer no power tour those were my favorite videos keep putting out your great content 🇺🇲🇨🇦💯
This has become my favorite "series" of YT vids. DDSpeedshop is great but this is is the my current "crown jewel" of your vids. My father was a science teacher for many years and Murs advice about teaching in general is spot on. Since my father was a bit of a gearhead himself and had some fun cars back in the day, he would bring them in and let the auto shop classes do maintenace and fix up work on them. something that benefitted both him and the kids that got to work on real cars. Unfortunately today I don’t believe they do this due to liability and lawyers...
Good point,Mur . Like Homer Simpson said, why do I need to learn English? I'm never going to England.
😂
Great video! I own a 1973 AMC Javelin. Couple years ago there was a mishap with the car. My fender came from Canada, because there was nothing to be found in the US. I worry about not being able to get parts for this car. But I love it!
Sorry to hear you guys are missing power tour this year. Was really hoping to finally meet you
We are too, but hopefully we are able to get back at it next year!
Hats off to all the good teachers out there... Keeping up with new information and skills is the challenge. We had a few educators in my Holley EFI class that were excited to take the info learned back to their students.
That's awesome!
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite weekly TH-cam shows. Love it, keep up the good work.
Thanks man!
Manifolds last forever headers are rusted out in a few years, depending on where you live. I did Texas Power tour a few years ago, before the price went too high. Total cost $4500! For three days and about 1,000 miles. That's not counting all the $ getting ready, and routine maintenance afterwards. Motels, food, adult beverages, ect. I used one card for everything so expenses were easy to track.
I don't like commenting twice but ....if your selling a vehicle take your trash out before you take pics! The thousands of vehicles with six weeks of garbage in them for me its a quick pass.
@@gregorybarth930 not a quick pass for me but the price goes way down
Absolutely, sell it clean!
Hello Dan and Dannie with Mur
👋🏽
Loved my Shop teachers Ron Lew and Dino Lepas. We had Welding and Machine shop with lots of Lincoln Tombstone A/C welders and a few old DC welders. We had Lathes, Mills,Shapers,Bandsaws, Power Hacksaw and a complete gas forge with all the tongs and hammers and anvils. We worked on our own cars and serviced and repaired the Faculity cars as well. The Auto shop had a huge Sun Diagnostic machines and an auto lift we rebuilt generators and alternators and starters. We also had a Hyd. and Pnuematics shop as well. Those experiences and classes have served me well for the over 45 years since I left HS. I was a Chevy mechanic and later a Serviceman in the oilfield rental ind. for 24 years and now a gunsmith.
I really enjoyed the Mur segment, good input for young and old, had to laugh about Dan saying watch the paint and rubbing his greasy hands all over the fender, classic Dan.
😂😂
I like the Nomad with the aluminum Rad - Looks good.
Me too!
Wise words from Dan! Just don't stop, you gotta keep going. 😊
Gotta push through!
Thanks for sharing this video with us
Always good to see Mur.
I think teaching is a great career path and this episode was fantastic.
Hay Dan I think they make a kit to add a PCV valve to old blue and get rid of the down draft tube . I did one on my 283 cid worked great less oil mess and may stop some oil leaks by pulling oil back in to the motor .
I don't have a t-shirt (yet) but I am now the proud owner of a swing-a-way can opener thanks to this podcast! Love you guys!
I graduated high school in 77 . Auto shop was and still is my favorite class. I’m still working on and learning about motor vehicles daily in my garage.
I ordered the can opener for my wife. At first she was like “WTH is that…” Once she tried it she loved it!
I love the wheels on the Comaro!!!
Save the money follow your dreams. Always another year to play
100p!
Mur, that’s exactly what shop
Classes did for me
Man, the closest Power Tour to me I YEARS, and you and Derek both decide to opt out 2024... MAN...!!
Lots of very good information in today's podcàst guys! Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Oh YES PLEASE do the Sick 66 tour.
So want to meet you.
New Buc-ee's just opened in Springfield, Missouri🎉
Thanks Guys another great video. I do really like Murs words of wisdom all you young people out there listen up!!!
Thanks again The Old Chevy Guy, Indiana....
For camera's, I run DJI Osmo action cams and they work flawlessly. Nothing but good things to say.
Oooooooooooo
Another great podcast like the new camera format Dani ! The princess auto bag section is also a plus especially the tech tips for the tools
And safety awareness.
Thanks!!
Another great Podcast Dan, Dani and Murr! Dan the 55 engine compartment looks amazing! It really cleaned up nice! I love that color and it really makes the engine compartment pop. The fire blanket is a great idea, so now I need to get one. I have fire extinguishers, but no fire blankets. I definitely see a real purpose for that. I had a 1973 Javelin AMX back in 1976 -77. It was black over black. 10" Cragar's in the back and 5" in the front. Beautiful chrome/finned aluminum Side Pipes and a 4 speed. I LOVED that car and I sold it when I got married in 1978, because my wife couldn't drive a stick. Man, I wish I still had that car; it would be worth well over six figures now. Dang it would be nice to know then what we know now! I still have the same wife, 46 years now!
So many good subjects. And I very much agree with the topic of school teachers keeping the students engaged in a subject they choose and really do want to learn it. My favorite teachers were all of my shop and art teachers. Btw Dan...30 years ago I bought a running driving 70' Chevelle with title and spare parts for $250(American) and sold it for $650. Boy how times have changed
Great content as always. I didn't realize you had a new shirt out. I'm heading to the website now!!
Thanks buddy!
In the beginning, I thought Dan had gotten a tattoo on his right forearm. Cool shirt.
Still watching the last 8 mins. have to say one of the best Podcast you made. Missed seeing Dani in the little box. She has the best laugh and smile. Beautiful lady. Murr is great to listen to. I kept waiting for Dan to start wrenching. Obviously had been busy getting things done. See yah ta mar rah 🙃😉
I did a head gasket on a small block cheby with factory exhaust manifolds. I could not get them to bolt on for nothing! I put the manifold in the oven at 300 F for 20 minutes. Heavy thermal gloves on and ran it out and I got all bolts started and dropped in the gasket. Good to go!
Oooo! Good tip!
Cool video Dan. Nice to see Mur spending time with you!
Y’all are great people! We enjoy watching:)
I have been wrenching like crazy to get ready for power tour hopefully to see you guys. My bad luck. I fully understand stand costs. I just spent $1000.00 on Holley Retro Bright headlights. I drive a nothing car I can’t fathom the cost of coming down from Canada. I am only driving from New England. Keep up the great work!
Ooof! You'll have a great time either way! Sorry we will miss you!
I love Mur he’s full of useful information.
15:00. I thought you’re not supposed to use Teflon on gas fittings. I haven’t been. Maybe I should be,
Would like to see DD Speed shop move to southern US. Plenty of cheap older cars here in the south.
In the old days we welded a tube into a freeze plug , put it into the block where the breather tube went , put an inline pcv valve on then went to the carb . Simple
Cool tip!
Great pod cast, the 3 of you are great together!
I would love to see you guys in a tri 5 and Mur in his Bricklan
If they announce power tour west, you should come to that!
Maybe! We will see how everything pans out!
Always soaked the floor and lower wall after doing any welding, torch or grinding before I locked up and went back to my house & bed.
I thought about teaching at a couple points in my career, but didn't have as much passion for it as the repairs themselves. Also would have been a BIG pay cut.
But each of us takes their own journey and have to enjoy the ride!
Sorry Guys going through a hard time. Really Dig the T-shirts. 👍
All good dude! Thanks for just being here+
GOOD JOB!
Oh no gonna miss yall on powertour Deb is going again this year. I understand the expense that was one of reasons I only came down the weekend to help you and Newbern with Brandon's car and do first day of tour. I really want to do sick week route 66 we did first one in Florida and had a ball.
For valve covers, SBF 260, 289, ,351 fit. For intake, 351 windsor (5.8) is different.
It’s so true, back when I served I walked around the hanger with a clipboard and pencil for near 2 weeks before a Sergeant finally asked what I was doing, nothing I replied I’m just looking busy. 😅
😂
That was the best part of me processing out of the army in the 60's, I walked around with my papers and a clipboard for weeks, like you said, doing nothing. Nobody questioned me about what I was doing, or why I wasn't falling out for formation.
@@williampolfus6975 Like I’ve always said “Bullshit baffles brains.” 😂👊
I worked in a shop for 40 years and I had 2 Fires, and I started both of them from sparks from a grinder.
CROSS-THREADING! NATURES LOCK-TIGHT
Dan here …. DD salesman!!
He's very good!
Great humor and content looking forward to what else rolls into the DD Shop
I'm real disappointed y'all aren't going on HRPT this year first year we been able to go in a while. We were looking forward to seeing y'all.
Awh dang sorry dude. Hopefully another time!
We used to call those toe caps clown feet at the print shop I worked at. All guest had to put them on to go in the press room. If you got a big enough group the little metal plate on the bottom made it sound like a herd of little ponies coming by.
I'm enjoying them very much ha ha
@@moreschmoo your very own tap shoes - almost!
So something for Danielle, there's a new Bucees in Springfield, MO. That should be close to the Rt 66 route. Theres also a small Rt 66 museum in Springfield.
Those safety toe covers are hilarious. The union at work clamped down on secretaries, clerks visitors not wearing safety gear and it sounded like a herd of horses walking around.
They bring me a lot of joy😂
Hey DD&M
Another good one in the books.
Take care of Yourselves 😊
I've cut way back on car show and swap meet travel because of the expenses - gas, hotel, parking, admission, everything has gone up! :)
And then you add the currency conversion! It hits hard
There is a company in Dallas TX that sells all of the body panels for the 55 Chevy. I guess they own the dies to make them.
There is place I bought stuff for my 57 Chevy it's called gold star.they had everything.
Oh!
CrossRoads is my old crircle track racing sponsor @DD Speed Shop! Great people!! Great products too! Definitely placing a order now!
Awesome! Thanks man. They seem like great folks!
I love your 68 Camaro. Even the rims looks awesome indeed. What color would you paint it. Keep up the great work.
That fire extinguisher is called Element
Dan I got a set of ram horns 65 I think center dumps , if ya want them
Too bad you're not going on power tour. Have a few Manitoban's heading down this year. Would have been fun to travel together on the tour. Guess I will have to hang out more at Princess Auto, west end if want to come across Dan.😁
I would love to do some route 66 driving events
If your laughing and having fun then we are too. Grate videos are not always scripted or planned out
I am sure there are some local cruises in Canada that you could participate in. If Mur is part of the Bricklin Club you could do a video of the SV1 when at one of the meetups. It will be the only silver one there is Mur paints it.
Yah maybe!
I am in the pro garage mahal camp! Your back deserves a 9000 pound lift and all the toys to go with it. More energy for projects and less in shuffling cars around. Sell some cars, hunker down, and get the workshop you deserve!
Ha ha thanks man! We just want a little more room
Life is what you make of it for sure. I know you both are doing the good things in life! Doing something twice is a bore. Get the new digs and find new adventures! BTW the newest and BIGGEST Buc-ees is being built in the Amarillo area. Mur knowledge is GREAT... you are lucky to have him as your Dad
We are pretty lucky all around!
White teflon tape is for water and yellow teflon tape is for fuel and oil fittings
Another fantastic video thanks 😊
You can make 55 Chevy front motor mounts out of hockey pucks. And body bushings too
I'm missing my bear hug on Dani this year at the PowerTour. It was hot but we've had worse. See you guys next year...but which car I wonder?
Use moving blankets on finders. Cheap that is what I use. Texas
Just ordered my shirt keep up the good work
Thanks dude!!
Your great inspiration for me to get it done.
21:00ish
If you have a white pickup truck, which you do X2. Just put a yellow light bar on top, and you can park anywhere.
Thanks for another , Brother !
I commend you on working on your sound irregularities. 👍👍
I'm trying my best! Thanks for noticing!
No need for Teflon tape or pipe dope on fuel lines Dan! But it's ok... as you where
The Bricklen is so cool, now that Mur owns it.😂
😂😂
Try corvette exhaust manifolds they have 2.5 inch outlets. Speedway motor sells them
5k views, 800 likes, in the first hour? That’s DD Pod Casting. Cheers!! 😎
🎉
Some resto and repair shops are charging upwards of $200 an hour now in big cities, it's so expensive for the time versus the parts it doesn't make ANY sense for folks to buy classics if they don't know how to turn a wrench. 2 days turns in to 2 grand REAL quick.
You can make money at the Tri-5 Nationals selling your merchandise.
Sadly the cost to go still outweighs the sales, and the visa cost to be able to sell!
Ask Jolene at Bad Chads for cameras she has the best advice
Kinda figured you guys weren't going this year... I mean, since I am. Haha!!
Mur I would be happy to watch you clean up your car just please leave your shirt on! We don't need any weird videos like that guy in Oklahoma does.😂😂😂
Ha ha... wait what?!
Are you going to put an electric windshield wipers on it
🤷🏼♂️🤷🏽♀️
My Dad got screwed on the paint job for his 47 Chevy, now my Chevy, and they cleared over runs and defects, so my only choice is sanding it all off or wrap it. Right now, I don't care if it gets scratched, so that is kind of cool
That is nice!
Just a heads up, Buc-ee's isn't scheduled to open in Amarillo until December.
WD-40 is great to spray on the front of a vehicle to prevent bugs and insects from sticking ,.My buddy had a 57 Chevy that was chosen as the Best Tri-5 by the owner of SOFTSEAL at Super Chevy at the Memphis event . He knew he would be going through the notorious Bug areas between here in Little Rock , Arkansas and Memphis . He sprayed WD-40 on his beautiful Red 57 hardtops front end so the bugs would not stick and mostly just hit and slide off . He washed the 57 when he got to Memphis and there was zero bugs or damage . Learn something new each day . I tried WD-40 on my personal old truck and it worked great for me as well .
