Thank you, I have minimal experience with generators but I'm looking to get one soon. This video helps tremendously in my search. Your greatly appreciated.
the fact that I have the exact setup with 2 qsc k12 and a kw181 and that exact Honda generator helps. I wasn't sure if our generator would power the system but this video really clarified it for me. thanks so much.
I use a powerhorse 3500watt inverter gen (might be overkill but it works), more than enough I run my (2) Electro-Voice EKX 15P's and (4) Mackie Thump15A's along with my lights, I can have my speakers at max where they are just about to clip and the generator handles it nicely. Paid roughly 750 on sale for it from Northern Tool a couple years ago haven't had any issues and would run all day (10+ hours) before having to fill up. Have it right next to my rig and can easily have a conversation next to it.
Glad I could help. The Hondas are the best and we have a few of them but we have had good luck with some of the less expensive ones. Even the Harbor Frieght ones I have heard work good.
Hi i would like to ask i have a pioneer xdj rx2 and i just bought a JBL party box 320 which generator i should go with to cover 5 to 6 hours Thanks in advance
This was awesome!! Was really curious about when to use eco or not and felt the same. With heavy draw from sub etc I always run off eco cause I do worry that eco is not fast enough to catch sudden power demand from sub.
How loud are they? Do you need to keep them far away so you don’t have the generator over powering the sound? We are looking at doing small shows outside with 2 big speakers and a little dj set up
Honda 2000 will be fine. As i mentioned in the video the 1300watts is what the speaker produces not what it draws. You will be fine with that setup on a 2000-2400watt generator.
Ryan what generator can I use for weekly indoor studio dance sessions (10 hrs max time) running on 2 k 12s laptop mixer and two turntables I need some help thanks
Can anyone suggest how many watts generator do I need to run a 2x Mackie 2000 Watts speakers and 2x 1400 Watts speakers. Besides this I’ll use laptop and mixer too. Would it be better if I use 2 separate portable generators or 1 is enough. I would be really grateful for any suggestions and ideas. Thank you 🙏🏻
Yes we ran 2 QSC subs, 2 k12s, DJ Coffin and LED light bar all the time on a 2000w Generator. Don't us ECO mode when bumpin it. It can't keep up with the base drop power draw.
If Im mixing house music for 4 to 6 hours which is "4/4 bass dominant music" will the "Wen 2000 Watt" be able to handle that application. My setup is: 2 QSC 12 in. bass Cabinets. 2 QSC 12 in. Tops XDJ-XZ Pioneer Controller 2 small monitors. Thank you for your help.
A 2000-2500watt generator will do just fine for you. You can always look up the specs on each piece of gear and see what they draw. Not what they produce. For example a 2000watt speaker does not draw 2000watts. Look for amps draw. Usually in the 3-5amps per speaker. With running House music it will hit peak draw on bass hits so don't run generator in eco mode. Run on full so its power is there when the bass hits.
Like I mentioned in the video the power output of your speakers has nothing to do with the draw. You need to look at the technical data that will say what the speakers draw. 3amps, 5amps etc. now if your systems is drawing 6000w then I would suggest a 10k generator but I’m guessing your system is producing 6000w.
Great video and thank you for doing this. Would I be able to use my Amp, mixer and speak using the Wen 2000? Playing at half volume (on the amp) nothing that loudJust need 4 hours out of it
Without knowing the power draw of each item I do not know. As mentioned in the video you have to look at the specc of them to see what they draw and ad it up. Most likely yes because it doesn't sound like a lot but you will have to double check. If it has a data sheet on it see how many amps it draws. Should be like 2-5amps and if the items all total over 15amps then no. But remember that is at peak power draw. so if its close you will be ok.
Which kind of generator do you guys reccomedn for partys? Battery generators or fuel generators? I want to hook up 2 yahama dbr10 speakers (700W each peak / 350 rms) as well as my laptop and controller and be able to keep going for at least 4/5 hours. Somebody give me advice pls
Hi: I’m new in playing music with my band of 2 guitars, 1 charango , 1 violin, 1 saxophone and 3 singers, all of us needs microphones. What will be the right Inverter-Generator meaning 2000 watts or 3000 or what? Also I got a DJ system with 2 speaker. Each of the is 300 RMS - 150 WRMS and the controller is a PA-4 Create 200 watts Again the same question. What Inverter, generator should I get. Really will appreciate your input. Sincerely Amateur in DJ Business
How do you feel about the Harbor Freight Predator 9000? I have a setup of 4 QSC KW153's, sometimes 5 stage monitors, 4 1600w peak subs, and then our digital sound board. I was considering getting two of the Predators, just price based for power.
So I'm looking into getting a generator for my Danley setup. I have two SM80's and 2 TH118 w/ a DNA 20K4 Pro. I'm trying to see what kind of generator will be right for me. I know the Honda EU7000IS would be ideal. Yet, I want to see cheaper options first before I drop that on one. Plus I can't seem to find one at a home depot right now. Can anyone suggest something for that setup? That could also eventually handle double that.
Figure out your power draw first and that will determine what size. That seams like more than enough generator. You could probably use a smaller one depending on your specs and total load. Honda is going to usually be the best bet but not the most affordable.
Great video. I have 2x QSC K12.2, 1x QSC KW181, Pioneer DDJ-SX2 , Wireless Mics, and couple of laser lights. I’m sure you have all these equipment. Do you think the Honda 3000 will do?
Hello, thanks for sharing this video, truly helpful.. I just wanted to clarify as I have a similar sound system and wanted to check with you about how many generators you utilize for 2-k12s, 2-k181, plus DJ controller, laptop, Driverack PA2, 1 mic. Are you using 2 of the Honda's 2000's, or just one? And or is the 3000 sufficient to handle this load? Im planning on running 3 tops: 2-k12's, 1-k10, and 1-k181, with DJ controller, drive rack pa2, Furman power conditioner, and laptop. Im thinking of the Honda 3000 and or 2= Honda 2000's,, Any feedback would be great, thank you
Hi! Thanks for the video! But I have a question bc I’m a little confused, I have two qsc 2,000 watt speakers and a pioneer controller. Would a 2000 watt generator be enough? Thanks again!
the important information is not the output-watts of your speakers but the power consumption. You can find it either on the back of your speaker near the power-input or you can have a look at the technical data sheet of your speakers. If you have got passive speakers, your focus should be on the power consumption of your amplifier. Same thing for the pioneer controller.
Awesome video very detailed. You were a great help. Thank you so much truck driver for Southern California.
Super helpful. So nice to get all the answers I needed from someone who does this extensively for a living. Thank you.

Would you reckon that would power 2 fender combo amps, 1 550w bass amp, and a powered Yamaha head? Thanks for any help!
Thank you for the review. I was going to fork out 900 for a generator. Glad I ran into this video before purchasing that one
Glad I could help. The Hondas are the best and we have a few of them but we have had good luck with some of the less expensive ones. Even the Harbor Frieght ones I have heard work good.
I’m trying to run 2 Yamaha DXR 15’s and two DSR 15 subs. Along with a Small Yamaha mixer and Mac. Would the Honda 2200 be able to run that?
No the subs require too much power you need something 4000 watts plus to be safe

Can Power Banks like for example the 'Jackery' power a sound system - speakers, DJ controller/turntables, mixer and maybe some lighting?
Hey. What’s this I hear about voltage regulator needed for PA equipment to risk frying the amps if they draw too much current? Thanks!!
This was awesome!! Was really curious about when to use eco or not and felt the same. With heavy draw from sub etc I always run off eco cause I do worry that eco is not fast enough to catch sudden power demand from sub.
Yes when dance music is going we do not use eco because of those sudden power draws when base hits.
How loud are they? Do you need to keep them far away so you don’t have the generator over powering the sound? We are looking at doing small shows outside with 2 big speakers and a little dj set up

What about cabling to dj consolle and noise of generator while you're djing anywhere outdoor?!
I normally put it 100ft away with 12g power cord. But I have ran it closer with no issues of noise.
Appreciate your video! So good!

Hi what do you recommend for live bands? A pa mixer amp, 2 guitar half stack amps, 1 half stack bass amp. Thanks
Do the generator need to be pure seine wave?

Just saw that the power consumption for the yamaha DBR10s is 60w. Does that mean per hour or what?

I would do a 2400w-3500w Generator.
What do you suggest for running a Denon Prime 4, two QSC k-12's and two QSC k-8's?
Honda 2200 will do or other generators around that size.
How do you feel about the Harbor Freight Predator 9000? I have a setup of 4 QSC KW153's, sometimes 5 stage monitors, 4 1600w peak subs, and then our digital sound board. I was considering getting two of the Predators, just price based for power.
I haven’t researched that one at all so I really can’t say.

That would be a good test to see at what point voltage drops.
