This was a great video the thing I'm wondering is how to use the internal duplexer and turn down the power of the repeater itself which should be a cheaper project than buying another duplexer
Iv heard of a guy who used the 10 watt duplexer with the amp and it held up. That said it’s not best practice. You can’t really turn down the power on the amp. If that’s what you’re looking to do then I’d just leave it stock
@@JDubbsadventure no I was talking about turning down the power of the repeater itself you have a high and low I believe that you have 10 watts on High and 4 Watts on low if I'm not mistaken and that should be perfect on the low side
@@keithbowman8492 yes but I have two an one on low outputs 2.7 and 7.8 on high and the other is 2.1 and 8.6 the low side isn’t enough watts to reliably work the amp and it causes a lot of problems

My duplexer is not labeling, is the low side usually on the left if holding the duplexer with connectors pointed down ?
I don’t believe it’s standard mine the low side is in the left if your ports are facing the bottom hope it helps
Seems the range test would be what your hearing at 22 miles from the repeter. You pretty much did a range test on your mobile. That's a good demonstration tho on the setup.

@@JDubbsadventure what I was saying is you amplifed the tx signal on your repeater and your handheld was at the base of your repeater so the range test was on the mobile equipment you have. Need a video of someone 22 miles out receiving from the repeater.
@@user-my1qi4nb5b got ya, that would test the repeater output, I was testing the repeater for “desence” I have other videos showing the transmission of the repeater

Im not but I know several people that are, no issues have been reported to me, this isn’t a heavy duty repeater and a cooling fan is a must on the amplifier. Remember that more watts Will NOT guarantee further distance
Is it possible to amplify the 5 watt repeater using the internal duplexer?
sort answer yes. Iv done it it does work. Disclaimer: That said long term I don’t know how long it will last. Iv heard of a guy from my friend that makes the interface board. one of his subscribers using the internal duplexer and this amp he added a fan to the amp and to the duplexer and has been running it for more than a year now. In my testing with the 10 watt duplexer warmed up 2-3 degrees. my testing was short and I didn’t do long range testing for desence
@JDubbsadventure thanks for the reply. I'll be starting from scratch so seems like my best bet will be a setup similar to your retevis repeater and duplexer. I was thinking if it would work well with the internal I could quickly disconnect and have a 5 watt portable repeater for on the road with the travel trailer
@@ryanfralic1115 we are working on a system to put any repeater online with a simple plug and play set up once we have it completed and all the bugs worked out I’ll do a video but it’s really slick
Between the midland repeater and the two ra87s which would you choose
@ahmedmanajid I like them both. The ra87 is good with leaves on the trees but the MXR10 is nice to plug and play
Can I do this with 2 handhelds instead of the mid
If you can make them talk to each other. The receiving radio has to get its signal to the transmitting radio.
I know they make a box to hook them together but if you plug in the hand holds then it locks the squelch open
Got mine set up with the same cables and adapters and only getting 16 watts 🤷♂️ use KMR 240 2ft cables 🤷♂️

Maybe check all your connections make sure your amp is putting out the correct amount. An always check with another meter I tested mine with 3 and all 3 where +/- 5% of each other
Ok so I look at the cables they are good. Power from the amp into the low side is 26w but out to the antenna is 16🤷♂️ I’m new to this and leaning as I go.
@Gta2O13my amp I believe was 45-50 watts before the duplexer remember the duplexer will take anywhere from 30-%50 of your power

No. It’s pretty easy I never took the time to make a wiring diagram. All the items used are pre-manufactured. You’re just plugging them in together.
The midland really is a beefed up baofeng using a the case as the heat sink. I wonder if there could be a way, with out having the betech amp in front of me, to attach an AIO liquid cooling system (readily avaible in the PC world) to the amplification IC. I imagine those temp spikes would remain pretty consistent.
You could try it?… I played with the idea there is another amp you can get off eBay that has a large and thick heat sink, put it in Bridgeport mill and cut a channel in it. Threaded a few nipples a little tubing and and a reservoir your done. In theory this would work it also relies on you having access to a milling machine and the knowledge to do the work

The amp isn’t important. Any amp rated from gmrs frequencies will work this was just the amp I had on hand
Amps are rated for certain input wattage from my understanding. With that in mind, you would need to insure the output from the repeater after you removed it from the duplexer was within that range. Perhaps there is enough play in what the amp allows for input as usually it's a range and perhaps you can go over that to some degree without issue. I would think you would have to reduce the output wattage of the repeater prior to putting it to an amp....depending on the amp of course. I would be curious what amp you are using and what the midland wattage at the output to the amp is prior to plugging into the app. @@JDubbsadventure

Suggestion. Get some braided strap and ground EVERY piece of equipment. Do not daisy chain.
