    I assumed you used Roper's book? Maybe not though based on your route finding description? He seems to give some pretty good clues on finding the best way up and over each pass, but I've only hiked a few of the passes as parts of other hikes.

      Yep! I used his book. We headed north to south, while Ropers book is set up South to North. That may be the cause for the discrepancy. There is still plenty of discretion to be used when taking on passes, even with Roper’s thoroughness.

    No need to add "s"to the SIERRA! A single mountain chain! Sierra Nevada is Spanish for "snowy range" so, "mountains" isn't required!
