It is - despite the many flaws these devices have. Thanks to your work they are know well collected and many can enjoy the class of a CD104/CD204/CD304 and many more to its full extend. I'm really intrigued to redraw every circuit board to make it double sided FR4, with current high quality passive devices and massive ground planes...

Der Philips ist eindeutig besser. Ist auch klar. Ich habe drei Philips und einen Revox. Keinen gebe ich jemals her. Der 304 hat das legendäre CDM 1 Dreharmlaufwerk und, neben dem BB 1704, besten R2R Wandler. Es ist beschämend, wo die Technik heute steht und vor allem, zu welch abstrusen Preisen. Die CD Technik, hat sich in den letzten 30 Jahren, eindeutig zurück entwickelt. Wenn den Menschen die Spitzentechnik aus den 80 er weggenommen wird, können sie heute nicht abschätzen, wie schlecht die heutige Technik ist. Hauptsache, billig herzustellen und riesige Margen erzeugen.
Ich denke, dass sich selbst die Techniker zu einem Teil selbst belogen haben im Fortschritts- und Kostenoptimierungswahn. Aber eines ist klar, ein High-End DAC von 2024 (Topping, SMSL) "klingt" nicht mehr, er gibt wirklich das wieder, was mit 16bit möglich war. Die Aufnahme- und Mixingqualität stellt heute den Limitierenden Faktor dar. Aber musikalisch waren die TDA154x auch schon ohnegleichen, wenn sie halbwegs gut Schaltungstechnisch umgesetzt wurden.

До перехода на Хакинтош, Philips CD-304 МК2 оставил как транспорт, сменив, имевшиеся до него Аккуфайс 75, Сони 7ЕС, ТИК 10 и ТИК 25, Микромега Стейдж 5, КЕК 51 (все подвергались глубокому апгрейду). Как транспорт - выше всяких похвал. Сделан брутально, тяжелый из металла. Сейчас все современные потоковые стриммеры, приводы и прочее - легкие и пустые компьютеры внутри из Китая с лейбаком за дорого.

I had this Philips CD-304 since 1984 and never use it. I lost the manual. I plug on 110V. It Looks like OK and power is ON too but it didn't play at all. I look at the back of CD player . sticker said 220V 50Hz 30W. is it 220V? it didn't play because I plug 110V?
Accuphase sounds better. Both instruments and vocal sounds real and musical. The Philip sounds digital. Sound from Accuphase is round and smooth, sounds from Philip is angular.
My clear favorite is the Philips cd 304!

Alright second video of yours I have watched, you are getting the 1541 singing in that player, so lifelike. The Accuphase didn’t stand a chance.

WRONG! This is the cd 304 of the first generation! It uses the TDA 1540P converter (14bit) The TDA 1541 came a year later (CD304mk2)

Many people in the numbers race don't realize that the old 14-bit TDA1540D is better in every way - even better than the much more popular TDA1541.

You must resolder transformer pins to use it on 100v.

what?Philips is the last player that sounds digital-even much cheaper plastic versions.I saw them connected to wilson audio-and no shame was done :)
The Accuphase DP-75 wins hands low! The Philips sounds flat without soul, for me.
ofc accuphase is better, wider soundstage and better natural sound
