It is because they use a different measure to evaluate impact of a fashion show. Fashion used to reflect completely the designers vision. The casting, clothing, musics are orchestrated based on instinct and how the brand perceive the future. Now, brands evaluate their success based on social media responses, hit rates, like rates and share rates. So they chose to maximise exposure by choosing insta-models who have a large following, designing Clothes that everybody could easily wear everyday. I am a pro body-conscious person. health is a must. But in those eras, models are so thin, in order the present the clothes better, unachievable but pleasing to cameras. That’s could be the reason for why, when we look back to the old days fashion show, the models looked way more ethereal, unearthly, surreal and unrealistically beautiful.
vlada is so iconic!! 99% of all models of all time could never have walked in that leopard print strapless dress! albeit so flawlwssly!! she is so underrated!!!

Not to mention, the the entire room is black, so it's hard to see where the stairs, and end of the runway is. Some models like Gisele also wore dresses that are harder to walk in, as the skirt goes all the way down to her feet, restricting a lot of leg mobility.
Carmen rocked it. She was by far the best in this one! I also loved Gisele, but something was strange. I think she was very nervous. Look at her finger in the beginning and in the end when she stands on that podium. She makes uncontrolled movements with her finger..And she tripped when she closed the show.
The shoes from this collection were super uncomfortable and high. You can see it if you look at most of the models walking. Most are wobbling all over the place.
At that time Gisele was pregnant and the shoe was smaller than her number. She just made that runway because DG patronized her. So she always says, she has great recognition and gratitude for DG.

The problem is designers selling their brand to millenials, yes, houses like D&G, Gucci and Dior used to be sexy but woman orientated. Now is tacky, an attempt to be artistic and trying to look young in a desperate way. Rich tasteless kids seem to be a better audience and group of clients than people who really love fashion and considered this brands as leaders in the area.
There was a ban on ultra skinny models for the FW 2007 season because of how far it got the previous season ,where a model passed away I always wondered if there was a reason Snejanas looks in this show more so cover her up Regardless She made that chiffon go scrunch scrunch scrunch scrunch!!!Excellent!

In my opinion Gisele should have kept the “dead arm” walk she did in the late 90’s- early 00’s. It looked so fierce and graceful. All this arm swinging only works in Victoria’s Secret in my opinion
When you have Gisele, Lara, Natasha, Caroline, Coco, Snejana, Shasa, etc... to walk in row. Those are great supermodels. Great era. Missing this kind of vibes, not like nowadays fashion show. Just plain bread without spices and those two spoilt rich brats.
Snejana was a successful model during the "Russian (or close by countries') invasion" but unlike the other models she wasn't able to continue her career once that trend of models faded. So I don't consider her a true supermodel. Imo she's like the mid-late 2000's version of Fernanda Tavares- pretty successful during her country's "wave" but pretty much fell off the map when a new wave started. Can't say the same for Gisele, Natasha, or even Coco.

So true, Suvi looked so nervous. Apparently Laura has hates doing runway because she has small feet for a model. She’s only a size 38 (eur) whereas most models are size 40+ (eur) and as such most designers only provide size 40 and above for the models so she ends up having to walk in shoes too big for her and ends up slipping lol
RoseofSharon carmen is also a size 38 and she’s one of the best runway models in history... I feel like some girls are just born to do runway and some others should stick to editorial

carmen kass stan _ I agree. Carmen’s walk is perfection. Also love Coco, Raquel, Caroline and Snejana’s walks. By the concentration on some of the faces of the models and the careful slow steps taken by some (of course because of some with tight/long gowns) it seemed this show was difficult for some models to manoeuvre. The slippery looking runway and complex arrangement of stairways leading to the back coupled with little to no lighting apparently caused problems for some models, I read somewhere.
RoseofSharon yea you can tell the show was difficult by looking at the girl’s faces at the finale, literally all of them looked down at the end of the runway so they wouldn’t trip. Even catwalk pros like Natasha, Snejana, Raquel or Carmen had to look down
This is one of the best collections/shows ever made by D&G, gowns are to die for, and I dare to say it was their last good collection, since then everything is About boredom and sicilian themed collections.
Luis Rojas Their last amazing show, for me, was Spring 2011, which was the white collection. That was a beauty of a show. The casting was amazing, the garments looked so impeccable, and the mood was serene, yet did not any sign of weakness. After that, it all went to shit.

Naomi Campbell was actually supposed to be the one opening and closing this show, but her court proceedings in 2007 (she was charged for throwing a jewel-encrusted blackberry at her maid) kept her grounded in New York while this show took place in Milan. The Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2007 show was held on Feb 22 in 2007. From Jan-Feb '07 Naomi had some court appointments to attend, and in March'07 she was sentenced to five days of community service in Manhattan. Bc of this she had to miss this show (and many others), and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana couriered some dresses from this collection to her because they're best pals. The dress that Gisele wore when she closed the show at 21:40 is apparently the one Naomi wore to her last day of community service in March 23, exactly one month after this show - it's hardly a coincidence, because that was supposed to be Naomi's spot. Google 'naomi campbell community service dolce and gabbana'. Also I think Gisele was roped in pretty last-minute for this show cuz of all the Naomi drama taking place, which is prolly why she was nervous and flustered - perhaps she had a jam-packed schedule that day.
Jay M Yes, but that's life. It effs up when you least expect it to. She was D&G's muse but still missed out on one of their most iconic shows. Naomi got into more trouble with the UN during the blood diamonds trial in 09-10 and told them that she didn't want to be in court because it was a waste of her time, and that she needed to work in fashion week. David Loaeza Gazelle Brintchi was originally supposed to be in Lara Stone's spot at 2:05, but Lara got roped in to fill Spot 2 because of Naomi's absence. So the opening line-up would've been like: Naosus Christbell Gazelle Brintchi Slaytasha Poly P.B.U.H. Carboline Fatini etc... and Gazelle Brintchi would've had her second and perhaps final walk at 10:01 but she got 3 total walks in this show.
Naomi was the muse of D&G for the entire decade of the 2000s and was present in almost all of their shows and campaigns, but missed this + the entirety of Milan Fashion Week for this season because of her court proceedings. They gifted her that dress as a consolation to make up for it. I didn't read it anywhere, it's just whisperings from people in the fashion biz I may be wrong about Gisele being roped into this show at a moment's notice, but I'm certain that Naomi was meant to be in it.

had to come back to this after watching their 2021 Alta Moda show. the stunt casting of celebrities’ kids, as well as the other unremarkable models, the tacky clothes and the boring music were too sad. needed a reminder of how good this brand used to be.

I can't with Lara's walk. Her first outfit screamed bdsm lady yet she managed to look like a blind woman with her cane. Even blind people walk better than her. At this point designers can give her a set of pyjama with flip flop and she still wouldn't be able to walk to save her life

Snejana was a successful model during the "Russian (or close by countries') invasion" but unlike the other models she wasn't able to continue her career once that trend of models faded. So I don't consider her a true supermodel. Imo she's like the mid-late 2000's version of Fernanda Tavares- pretty successful during her country's "wave" but pretty much fell off the map when a new wave started. Can't say the same for Gisele, Natasha, or even Coco.

So true, Suvi looked so nervous. Apparently Laura has hates doing runway because she has small feet for a model. She’s only a size 38 (eur) whereas most models are size 40+ (eur) and as such most designers only provide size 40 and above for the models so she ends up having to walk in shoes too big for her and ends up slipping lol

carmen kass stan _ I agree. Carmen’s walk is perfection. Also love Coco, Raquel, Caroline and Snejana’s walks. By the concentration on some of the faces of the models and the careful slow steps taken by some (of course because of some with tight/long gowns) it seemed this show was difficult for some models to manoeuvre. The slippery looking runway and complex arrangement of stairways leading to the back coupled with little to no lighting apparently caused problems for some models, I read somewhere.
RoseofSharon yea you can tell the show was difficult by looking at the girl’s faces at the finale, literally all of them looked down at the end of the runway so they wouldn’t trip. Even catwalk pros like Natasha, Snejana, Raquel or Carmen had to look down

Luis Rojas Their last amazing show, for me, was Spring 2011, which was the white collection. That was a beauty of a show. The casting was amazing, the garments looked so impeccable, and the mood was serene, yet did not any sign of weakness. After that, it all went to shit.

Naomi Campbell was actually supposed to be the one opening and closing this show, but her court proceedings in 2007 (she was charged for throwing a jewel-encrusted blackberry at her maid) kept her grounded in New York while this show took place in Milan.
The Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2007 show was held on Feb 22 in 2007. From Jan-Feb '07 Naomi had some court appointments to attend, and in March'07 she was sentenced to five days of community service in Manhattan. Bc of this she had to miss this show (and many others), and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana couriered some dresses from this collection to her because they're best pals. The dress that Gisele wore when she closed the show at 21:40 is apparently the one Naomi wore to her last day of community service in March 23, exactly one month after this show -
