That second vintage trading post you visited used to be a garage. My first job when I left school was there. We were Ford and Austin dealers. Where the horse stood used to be a set of three petrol pumps. Happy memories thanks.
Excellent and different video! I'm looking forward to the Moretonhampstead Museum video. I live in deepest Devon and I am ashamed to admit I have driven past the museum many times, wondered what it's like, but never visited it. I dare say your video will encourage me to make the effort. I chuckled at the Harley Davidson club at Sidmouth; the retired generals and twin-set brigade that inhabit Sidmouth must have choked on theit cucumber sarnies! Devon, Cornwall and Somerstet are littered with old abandoned cars, quietly decaying in the countryside. My dear old farmer neighbour has an old Hillman Hunter, barely visible under piles of used sheep feed plastic bags, that has the windows left open for the postman to leave the mail and for his nine cats to sleep in. Instead of a tractor he uses an ancient Toyota Corolla to transport bales of hay to sheep in his fields and to transport sick calves to the vet! The 21st century has yet to reach Devon!!

hi, great video.i used to collect matchbox toys in the 60s, i think they were about 1/3d in old money, back then us children used to play with toys all day long in the hols.we also had corgi and dinky vehicles, i still have ten dinky army Bedfords which i keep as a reminder of the good times,
The 200/25 SDi Rover were reliable torquey strong units and quite nippy now getting sort after they didn’t have the HG issues of the K Series which are easily sorted with an upgraded HG.
Loving the sunny Jim doll in the part where the Mr Beckham poster is. I always remember the words on the cereal packets... High o'er the fence leaps sunny Jim Force is the food that raises him. We had one for years. And that wonderful engineering equipment,which my employers use a lot of(lathes etc),in our work for the railways xx
Welcome to my part of the world! The Ogwell Antiques shop is a real treat and well worth a visit. I have visited Moretonhampstead motor museum many times and it is packed with many rare classic cars and motorcycles. The building itself that houses the museum is a treat too.

Hi 👋 What a fantastic trip and great video. Very interesting. The Antique shop selling the toy cars brought back memories for me. I had a collection of Dinky, Corgi and Spot On toy cars in the 1960s. I also owned a few French Solido brand and German Marklin models as well. The Marklin cars were made by the company that specialized in train sets I think Elvis Presley owned a Cadillac like the one you saw. Those Ford Zephyr 6s were popular here in NZ in the 1960s. It was parked at an Auto repair garage it was an Automatic model and in good condition. I didn't have my phone on me to record it. The Hillman Hunters and Avengers sold well in the 1970s. My father bought a Hillman Avenger Estate back then .

The only realistic option is to find somewhere online (ie hosting space) that you can upload the files to, then send the link to them to people you know. Or set up a TH-cam channel and upload to there of course!

An exceptional and wonderful video RJ. Bridgeport, Herbert, Cincinnati all big tooling and machine names way back when and still now in that amazing workshop which would never pass any Japanese Lean Manufacturing scrutiny but terrific in its own right. It is intriguing what you have literally stumbled across which leads me to think that there must be many such places across the country largely hidden from or unknown to public view. Off to see HJ's Car Traction channel now to see his take on things. Aladdin Pink Paraffin OH! I remember it very well in the 1950's. My father used to deliver it in his Bedford Tanker which was also pink when I was a kid and sometimes I used to sit it the cab and go with him. It stank and paraffin heaters where widespread at that time and very popular albeit dangerous.
Thanks Vince, yes it was a treat being allowed to see all that old machinery. The museum visit I had pre-planned but other than that, it was just case of roaming about and speaking to people. The old forms of communication still work!!! Years ago I heard from an old boy who still owned an E83W van and he'd been granted special permission in 1944 to buy a new van (sales restricted at the time) in order to deliver Pink Paraffin to outlying villages in his area. Hopefully the van survives.

I can still remember the ad jingle for Esso Blue, also the cartoon ad where a lady with a VERY sexy voice rings up the Esso Blue dealer and he replies "Yes, this is the Esso Blee dooler!" Oh! How we laughed.......

I lived in Devon for a while as I worked at the then airline HQ in Exeter, so your utterly fascinating tour of places well known to me was a treat. As a total workaholic, I fear I never had time to visit these wonderful old garages and new museums much to my regret. Your eclectic knowledge made the video, as well as the visual treats. Ahh, my sort of holiday. Cant sit on a beach all day. The machine workshop reminds me of where I used to work, similar lathes, pillar drill, huge grinder etc. Went back a few years later, all gone, condemned by health and safety, such a criminal shame. Used to live quite near Lake & Elliots factory, again, all gone now. Enjoyed the toyshop as I used to sell similar items myself. Harley should have bought the Scalextric floodlights set as well, never seen a complete boxed set of those. Good to see the classic cars but a shame to see most of them outside in the elements. Would have loved the Granada estate.
Excellent way to start my Sunday. What a trip you had to the West Country, and some great places you filmed for us. It's amazing what you can 'spot' just driving around these country villages - TG they are still there and hopefully will be kept for posterity. It seems to be good hunting ground down there, especially away from the built-up areas. PS yes that's our old Honda, a dependable and usable old thing. Alas the dog plan didn't work out (for many reasons) but she's been re-homed now.
Great video, your powers of detection are equal to those of Sherlock Holmes. How do you find these cars and places? I can't help but feel a tiny bit sad when old stock cars are turned into racing cars. I find the plain stock cars much more interesting - they give me a sense of solidarity with the past. The 70s boxed Matchbox cars at Ogwell's shop gave me a severe attack of nostalgia - I paused the video and counted about eight that I owned as a boy. The illustrations on the boxes are just gorgeous artwork. Yep - I really enjoyed the video, thanks.
Thanks Richard. I was wanting a video of memorabilia/toys of the UK. Much different from the US. Now about those big Ford, GMC, Chevrolet trucks - who can afford to run them there? I liked the '67 Camper Special especially as it looked to come from the Western or deep southern US due to its lack of rust. Those era Ford trucks often rusted in two right behind the cab or the cab floor would decay and sag over the frame. The Camper Specials had heavy duty rear springs and extra cooling capacity for hauling campers/boats, etc. I was just surprised to see all the American heavy iron in one shop!
Glad you liked it, a lot of big-engined American vehicles end up converted to LPG to help with running costs, although many stockists of LPG are closing down their pumps so there's no guarantee it'll remain widely available here.
I paused the video at 52:52 when Harley uncovered the second tray of those Matchbox cars... Wow! I counted about a dozen of those that I had myself 50 or more years ago! The Ford gritter truck, the white GT Ford with the '6' on it, the silver Greyhound bus, the Lyons Maid (I think) ice-cream van with the transparent roof, the gold Landy with the roof luggage, the cream Atlantean double-decker, the forward-control BP Exploration lorry (and the 8-wheeler in the top left of the shot and the 6-wheeled petrol tanker with the tip-forward cab), and what was, if memory serves, described as a 'Rover 1800' (half-hidden behind the Land Rover), but looked like a dry run for the SD1 (although the model pre-dated the introduction of the SD1 by a good two or three years). Incredible memories there! Thanks both for another top-notch vid!
i was born and lived very near where that bridgport miller was built in Bridgeport Connecticut U.S.A.there getting to be a rare sight now.they will run for ever if maintained properly
P.S. My grandfather was a sales rep for Cincinnati Tools in the UK back in the 1940/50's. His employer lived in a palatial house somewhere on the South Coast where he and his family were sometimes invited; the lady of the house had a butler who followed her with a silver tray to gather the roses that she cut from the garden............
Nice, but at about 21 mins in, when you were showing all the stuff inside the mini-bus/van, the unsteady-cam started to make me feel rather queasy! perhaps you might invest in a steady-cam? …just a suggestion! ;)

P.S. My grandfather was a sales rep for Cincinnati Tools in the UK back in the 1940/50's. His employer lived in a palatial house somewhere on the South Coast where he and his family were sometimes invited; the lady of the house had a butler who followed her with a silver tray to gather the roses that she cut from the garden............

Nice, but at about 21 mins in, when you were showing all the stuff inside the mini-bus/van, the unsteady-cam started to make me feel rather queasy! perhaps you might invest in a steady-cam? …just a suggestion! ;)
