great song at the end. I noticed a neat trick for 5/4 that might work with 9/8. In 5/4 accent the 1 and the 3-and. That accent on the upbeat after 3 gives the illusion that the beat is even rather tan the usual lopsided 5/4. I've heard a drummer do this and it works. I suppose this could be done by accenting one or more upbeats in 9/8. Also it seems like in 5/4 if the rhyme word is consistently at 10 it another way of evening it. Is that correct?
Whenever I hear music in 9/8 I always think of Irish traditional slip jig music. It feels like such a natural rhythm to me as someone who's heard trad music in Ireland a lot, so I love hearing it in other contexts (and would love to hear some fusion!)
Dude, youre a beast. I genuinely appreciate your understanding of your craft. I love your music because you can feel the effort put into it, which enhances the emotions it brings about.
You always make the information so easy to understand and visualize. As a member of an orchestra, music theory can be very hard to grasp and pushes a lot of people away. Thanks for the videos 👍
Hey bro, my sister came back from a poetry comp acoupla weeks ago and said someone performed their song and id like him. I thought it sounded familiar, i showed her your photo, and its you! Thanks, you made our day, didnt know you were kiwi 😊😊😊
Im just finishing my first track in 9 and I got your track recommended on Spotify. Absolutely sick. Everything you’ve been putting out lately is just too good. My first track is in 17 (4, 4, 4, 5) it’s so fun phrasing rap over odd meter and I hope that you inspire a movement!
@@MazbouQ I haven’t put it online yet but I’d be so down to send it to you and if you like it you can drop a feature and then I’ll build a statue of you and die happy. I REALLY dig the 17 and I think you’d absolutely crush it. It’s so open in terms of phrasing possibilities.
Killing it as usual Maz. Also, would love to see more artists recommendations from you, i did not know M.anifest until this video and already in love with his music. Both your music and your taste are impeccable!!
I remember listening to a song (jazz, not rap) and it blew my mind, because the best was so close to 12/8 that it was close to 3/2 (subdivided 12/8) but it wasn’t. Went so hard

I've been RAMBLING about this topic to my friends. It's so satisfying to listen to time signatures being used in a modern way. None of my friends retained interest in music theory after high school like I did.
The track in 12/8 by M.anifest is B.E.A.R, the album is rather Nowhere Cool in case someone couldn't find it. Great video nonetheless 🔥 (Edit: I was wrong😅)

the only one that can really be argued as 4/4 is the 12/8 example. the first example is clearly 6/8, and the last one is more like 3/4 with triplet feel.

I have a doubt in triplets we emphasise every first syllable is that the same for 16th notes
This little clip sounds so much like me that it confused my wife. Might need to set up a 1-on-1 with you just talk about it. 😂

9/8 is just 3/4 triplets and the beat goes to the dotted quarter. I think it's oddly underused
I've always loved rap and music and general but since I've started following this page, I have a new found appreciation and fascination with themm

9/8 is also really cool when you split it into 2+2+2+3 like in blue rondo alla turk
