It's weird that the globe predicted the 24 hour sun in Antarctica, globers have said for a while that there'd be a 24 hour sun in Antarctica and TFE showed there was a 24 hour sun in Antarctica. Weird, that. It's like it's a globe or something.
Reality is part of the globe “conspiracy.” It’s incredibly difficult to actually prove you’re on a flat Earth while it’s actually a globe. That’s why the have to come up with convoluted explanations to make a flat Earth behave exactly as a globe Earth would. Only flat Earthers believe the sun should set on a flat Earth. Anyone with sense can see that if a small and local sun remains above the plane of the Earth then everyone on Earth should see the sun 24 hours a day no matter where they are. It would just get smaller and lower in the sky when it’s on the other side of the Earthly plane. But that’s not what we observe. We see the sun at the same size all day long moving along an arc across the sky, exactly as a distance sun would appear to do from the surface of a rotating ball. So somehow they have to make the flat Earth behave exactly as the globe model predicts. So we get magical skies that changes perspective accordingly to where you are on Earth that makes a small hovering sun appear to go beneath the Earth for half the world. The result is an incoherent self contradictory mess of partial explanations with no predictive power trying to turn flat Earth into a globe without admitting it’s a globe. It is a truly remarkable feat of denial of reality.
How will the flerfs explain the elevation angles matching the globe prediction when they're trying to explain the 24 hr sun with stuff like reflections or multiple suns? Great work wally.

Now there’s something about this that’s confusing me. Hopefully someone can give the answer. From what I see this whole event was based on seeing if the sun is observed in one of two ways. Either its apparent motion in the sky from that location behaves in one way, which would include the sun disappearing from direct view because it’s below the local horizon. In which case this indicates the earth is a flat plane. Or the suns apparent motion in the sky is observed throughout that same 24 hours, stays above the horizon. In fact stays within a predicted angle above the horizontal from the observer. This is with the sun being directly observed for all that time without interruption. In which case that would confirm the earth is a globe. Two Hypothesis when tested should confirm one of two predictions. Two ideas where we should see one of two possible results. So why is the term ”false dichotomy” being constantly repeated? Am I missing something? Are people getting upset about the on site menu choices? There was only one dish served or a whole myriad of choices that the term dichotomy is being incorrectly applied to. I’m asking as I know there were numerous references to their being such fantastic Chefs on site that the word falsely applied must be referring to the menu? I seem to have missed that bit. Is that why there was so much reticence from the flat earth community to come along on TFE. Was it that despite having Meat, vegetarian and vegan options there weren’t any sour grapes available for their dietary needs?
@@erykmozejko3329 you pretty much nailed it. Suns sets or doesn’t set. Only 2 possible outcomes. I think some get confused and try to count the causes. GE or FE . They then say there could be other models to consider.

5:35 - Why are the two small compasses slightly different from each other? And why are they both ~45 deg away from the cardinal directions stated for each time?
Magnetic compasses point to the magnetic poles, which are not in the same place as the geographic poles. When Wally says north, south, east, west in this video he is referring to directions relative to the geographic poles. Knowing his exact location will allow him to lookup the angular difference between the magnetic and geographic poles at that location, then apply that variation to the magnetic compass indication to determine the direction relative to true (geographic) north. In that area, mag north is about 40°E of true north, so you’d need to add 40° to the compass reading to get the directions relative to true north (effectively rotating the face of the mag compass 40° counterclockwise). It’s also known that the shadow will be the longest when the sun is true north, so they could observe where the sun is when the shadows are the longest, align the box along that axis and work out the magnetic variation themselves.

What a shocker...the Earth is spherical! Close to the southern rotational pole, the Earth appears to be rotating clockwise. As a result, the sun appears to be moving in an anticlockwise direction. Prediction: Close to the northern rotational pole, during the northern summer, the Earth will appear to rotate in an anticlockwise direction, and the sun will appear to move in a clockwise direction.
Brilliant...well done!

that time you just don't "believe", but prepare yourself with predictions, models, and mechanisms to test them. great.
A Flat Earth counter-argument would be: "But how is water supposed to stick to the sides of a globe?"
Similar experiments to the Jeronometer would pose the following tests:
"Does 1+1 really equal to 2?"
"Is water wet at room temperature at atmospheric pressure at sea level?"

@@mdandry I do like a good 3D print . Some 3D printed shadow clocks are awesome
