The M3 sound in Most Wanted and Carbon is some of the best sound design in a game I've ever seen, and it just became progressively worse; they just gave up in Unbound. Gameplay, story and sound design just doesn't match up to what NFS used to be.

And Spider Man web swinging games were awful in the older games where the new ones do it almost perfectly. To me it just feels like the NFS games don't fully add up to what they used to be overall. It's just an opinion, I know a lot of people enjoy Unbound, just not me.
The solid and best of this BMW M3 GTR is the gearbox straight cut gear. That gear has create a noise which sounds like a whine and it screams like insane. As you shift to high gear, it will become louder and nearly make my ear drum burst LOL. That is the reason why I like this vehicle.

In Need For Speed Pro Street there was an M3 GTR bodykit. If I'm not mistaken too, the M3 E46 from that game in stage 4 in that game's engine, had the same sound as the M3 GTR

Undercover also had both the GTR bodykit and the MW wrap readily available. And the stage 3 transmission had the straight cut gears sound too. Still an I6 tho

@@HeroManNick132 Yep. 6 road legal BMW M3 E46 GTR and 4 racecar versions were built in the special vehicles department of BMW's Regensburg Plant. - 4 were racecars (2 for BMW Motorsport or Team Schnitzer, 2 for BMW Prototype Technology Group) - 3 were sold to the public - 3 are development prototypes - 1 of 4 racecars is at the BMW museum Normally, it should be 10 Road legal versions and 4 racecars but BMW stopped to make the road versions at 6 and only 3 were sold to the public since they kept the 3 others as development prototypes. Which means if they didn't stop to make the street legal BMW M3 E46 GTR, 14 of them would have been built already or more but it never happened anyway. The reason why BMW stopped to build more road versions of the BMW M3 E46 GTR is due to a change of rules for the 2002 ALMS Championship. BMW were meant to build 100 street legal BMW M3 E46 GTR and 1000 P60B40 V8 engines but they scrapped the street legal program because it was too expensive.

The fact they keep bringing back the M3 in future games just goes to show that NFS can't stand on its own feet. Blackbox Era, hell even Undercover, is better than most Criterion/Ghost Games NFS. Hot Pursuit 2010, Rivals, and Heat are the only ones that did well.

I played nfs mw 2005 and carbon, but I'd have to say Heat nailed the sound a bit better to it's real life counterpart. The whine sounds great while allowing the v8 to be heard. I still have big respect for the OGs though and they will be my favorite NFS games.
Heat and MW 2012 had the best sounding M3 for sure, because of the metallic tips for Heat and the sound system for MW. Unbound really has fallen behind in some aspects imo. the Charger, Silvia and Countach all sounded better in Heat
Most of these sounds that you mentioned are the same as NFS Heat just the sound processing is different. The Silvia S15 sound has been the same since NFS 2015 and the 1969 Charger uses the same sound sound from the Black Box era a.k.a. from NFS Carbon with some changes.
You can clearly hear in some games that's just a bodykit simply because it sounds like the I6 S54 of the normal M3 E46, not the V8 sound from GTR (street or racecar version). They actually got it wrong in NFS World where only the GTR Street version was available and making a straight six sound. When community added it back in custom servers, they still put the wrong sound and when I pointed that out, they just didn't care.

There's a special car in nfsmw called speedtest which is bmw m3 but it's carbon fiber and sound like ford mustang by default, fun fact that this car is having faster speed compared to razor's version of m3 gtr and better handling too.
The sound designers at Criterion and Ghost games just kind of gave up on the sound of the M3 GTR until Heat came along and gave the M3 what is, imo, the most menacing M3 GTR sound in the NFS franchise. The transmission whine on that version of the car just makes the whole sound for me
It's really disappointing that everyone seems to be ok with the fact that the M3 GTR in every modern game from NFS, a 15 year old car in a different era, year and style, you guys have to let the car rest in its era. Sure, it was an awesome car but you need to grow up andmove on, EA clearly doesn't care if they remember Most Wanted 05 or not, it's there just to get the old school fans to buy the game just for the nostalgia factor, not for the game itself. This probably won't be read by anyone.

It's really disappointing that everyone seems to be ok with the fact that the M3 GTR in every modern game from NFS, a 15 year old car in a different era, year and style, you guys have to let the car rest in its era. Sure, it was an awesome car but you need to grow up andmove on, EA clearly doesn't care if they remember Most Wanted 05 or not, it's there just to get the old school fans to buy the game just for the nostalgia factor, not for the game itself.
