Coming from an environment where everyone is perennially broke, I cannot fathom needing that much money to have fun, expecting others to pay for you, or even being proud of being a mooch. And you’d certainly never admit to taking someone else’s card. This is spoiled rich kid behavior.

There is already *no* problem. It's a debit card with only $5 in the account associated with it.

@@johncasteel1780 Yes, there IS a problem! The debit card may only have $5 in it, but in every bank I know, it is the customer who owns the card who is responsible for any debts run up from use of the card... So, yes, it needs reporting both to the bank and police as the woman admitted she stole it.

This one must have been written by someone too young to have a debit or credit card. First of all, if the money isn't there in the account then Lauren could not have run up a $50,000 bill. Second, who was allowing her to do that without checking her I.D. Maybe for fifty dollars. Third, the majority of banks nowadays will decline a card if the charges look suspicious or are over a certain limit, say $5,000. I have had that happen when I was purchasing an expensive electronics device or furniture. Had to call the bank from my phone and verify the purchase before I let the vendor put it through.

  • @highlander6964

Why wouldn’t the woman immediately cancel the card, or call the police. Instead telling her to ‘have fun and keep spending? That makes no sense. If the thief can’t pay back $200, why let her get to $50,000?. This makes no sense

I had a friend like this....
Whenever she would suggest or plan something she always had money.
But whenever one of us would suggest or plan something, somehow she would ALWAYS seem to FORGET her wallet!!
    But my question is ....
Unless she had that much money on the card....
    How did she spend $50,000?
I mean I have 4 prepaid debit cards that I use for travel purposes and I only load so much onto them at a time and each one has a specific purpose......
    1. Travel
    2. Shopping
    3. Eating
    4. Hotel/Motel/Lodging
That way I know I'm covered if anything happens and I have become clever with hiding my money and cards in hotel rooms so as not to get robbed and I never hide them all together in the same places. Works wonders when traveling.

What place would let someone order that much expensive stuff without checking their payment will go through 1st? A hundred dollar meal, yes, but you don't just open up a tab for champagne that costs thousands per bottle. You give them payment for your drink when you order & then they bring it to you after the payment goes through, right? (Unless you already have a relationship established with that club/restaurant & they have previously checked that you're good for large orders & give you a VIP status. That's the only way I ever heard that managers will let you have a tab for expensive items.) Still it is stupid to steal the card of someone you know & even more stupid to then tell them. It is still theft when you steal from a "friend" so I don't know why she thought she could get away with it.🤦‍♀️

A good message in the story although lots of flaws in this one... Granted she was assuming it was a Credit Card rather than a Debit card. But, the place she was spending it at I almost guarantee would have checked before allowing such a bill to build up. There is some "unlimited" Credit Cards sure. But there is noway any business would let anyone ring up that kind of bill without checking card against person ( Unless she was well known in that place, which is possible I guess although not mentioned ). For a start her name would not have been on that card? No business would allow someone to use a card with someone else's name on it and especially for amounts getting up that high. If so that would almost make them equally libel for the fraudulent use of the card. Not taking into account for that amount she almost certainly would need to know the PIN number.

This story makes no sense. You don’t pay back anything on a debit card because you can only spend the amount you place on the card. Credit cards use credit which you pay back later.

  • @winniethepoohandeeyore2
    @winniethepoohandeeyore2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Um.... Debit cards takes the amount out of the account right away. If she only had $5 on the card anything over $5 would have been declined, also a lot of places charge for purchases under a certain amount. Credit cards you charge, make a monthly payment for or pay the balance in full off before the monthly billing cycle ends. Do better research on stories you post please. Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't make any sense. I don't know the locale of the story, but you can't use a debit card for anything exceeding the amount in the account. The first payment would get declined. You need to do more research on the content of your story before you put it on line.

I was also confused, the only way I can think of is that she ordered all night and then when she asked for the bill she presented the credit card. That's when it was refused. It is slightly weird that you could run up $50,000 but it might depend on the clientele. I worked for The Gap in an upper class area of London and we didn't have those plastic discs with the numbers on them as it could be seen as if we distrusted our customers. Other branches definitely had them.

I don't care where she left her wallet.. I wouldn't of paid..her bill would've been between her and the restaurant.. not my problem, not my businesses...I would've immediately cancelled the card and call the police.. what she's doing is called STEALING and credit card fraud... you can't "borrow" someone's card without their permission🙄.. she's a thief..
