The witch verminia and the french accent is cool
I really hope this is still in very early development, the fighting and combat looks VERY rough
The game has been in development for an year, and no release date in sight; Safe to day that its indeed really early

I see people saying that Soulframe is supposed to be a soul like game?? That has never been said by the devs guys. They know that the name makes you think so and they agonized over whether they needed to change it but they decided to stick with it (see the interview with gamesradar of 20th of july 2024). It is supposed to be a kind of "sister" project to warframe. Where warframe is often filled with war and conflict, soulframe is game about fixing the soul of the world and making connections (war-frame soul-frame anyone? Let's be honest something like 'peaceframe' doesn't sound great). It does not pretend to be a soulslike game peeps so don't try to think it is emulating a souls like combat system. Otherwise you will just disappoint yourself.
Sold.
Can't wait!
As long as they get the combat polished and reduce the random flashing lights I'm very happy gamer
oh here is Erra in next life
Honestly looking forward to this and what the story holds
Focus on a better combat and reduce the lightning in combat but not environment.
That's because this is copy paste animations from warframe, they are equally bad, but we do not notice that as much since everyone bullet jump and spin around with melee.
@@Molotov3KKK I mean, Warframe is also based on Gunplay more than Melee, not to say that melee isn't a focus. It's just...less so. Or at least was last time I played it.
That being said, I was looking forward to this, but this gameplay reveal is not really that promising. I'll keep an eye on the game. But they've got a lot of work ahead of them.

I don't know what happened to the bitrate but perhaps upload in 4K next time? Looks like 480p at the moment.

It's to hide bad animations.
So basically warframe devs don't know how to do melee combat?
they never really did
😂😂😂
They only thing they propper know about combat it's to nerf what it's good
Judging from the Duviri experience, no, they don't lol
@@TheAccursedEntityI'd rather play duviri drifter only than this
If this audience wasn't used to the frenetic energy of Warframe the combat discussion would be very different haha, which is fair. As far as the souls genre goes, I actually think the combat looks good already. Plus I think the lighting's a breath of fresh air - it feels very fairytale. *Also loving the synthaesia in the way Verminia speaks about the boss monster
That's cope. It's severely undercooked and you know it. Even WF vets who are used to the lighting fast combat for years aren't vouching for WF's melee much less on a game that's emphasised on it.
We want the game to succeed. Gotta give them some tough love tell them the truth. I believe in DE's passion. But even they have weaknesses. Melee combat is their obvious Achilles heel since WF. Even more obvious in Duviri Paradox which is a released title btw. This one won't be out for a couple more years so they can still get it right.
@Oryyyt Those are my honest thoughts, I haven't played WF in years and I have no particular attachment to DE. It feels like a Dark Souls I, or Lords of the Fallen, combat system - slower and more methodical than modern soulslikes, with good weight behind swings, and an emphasis on timing. I'm impressed by the campsite fight, it felt fluid, and animation transitions where generally smooth.
Parries look good, but the backstab animation could use a little work, as _that_ wasn't a smooth transition. That and the running cycle, which doesn't have great ground contact.
But yeah, love the aesthetic, and it looks fun to play - it's definitely one of those things you have to play hands in to guage the feeling of though. And I don't doubt the failures in the recent Durivi Paradox, I do remember the melee combat in WF being a little stilted.
@@quinn_wbfm I love everything about Soulframe, the world, aesthetic, ambient sounds, uncanny dialogue and wierd npcs. All except for the combat jank, sfx, screenshake and flashy light effects, little to no hit feedback which the majority of people can agree on. Imo if they can just focus their resources in those aspects now as everything else already looks good this could be an insane f2p title. It just needs more time in the oven which I'm confident they'll do. Just have divert their attention to stuff that needs polishing. I want this game to be the best that it could be.
Funny that they dropped Wayfinder to make this.
maybe i'm tired but i didn't get to see much difference between the different skin x(
i also hope the combat movement, impact, and readability of ennemy attack wind up will get polished in the future, hoping the best to the dev team
You can definitely see a difference between the darker skin tones. The lighting makes it harder to see since it's a weak candle glow.
@@Sick_Sara color variation isnt a different skin anyway, that was my point XD

I will now take my leave
They haven't even announced a release date yet. It will likely be several years from now. Digital Extremes are known for doing things differently - for one, they don't wait until things are fully polished before releasing footage. That's because they want the community to share in their creative process the whole way through. This entire thing is simply a proof of concept... emphasis on *concept*. Priority is given to atmosphere, art direction, worldbuilding, gameplay novelties. Movement and combat tech are likely to suffer most here. Warframe is the same in that aspect. This is a AA studio, after all. Their resources are limited. That said, I do hope these aspects get all the polish they deserve, as they are so central to the experience.
as usual the sound and terrain design team absolutely killed it. the animation team on the other hand... all the work that went into making Verminia look stunning shouldve gone to the actual combat. this isnt warframe where you can hide janky animations under obliterating hundreds of enemies a second. this is clearly a soulslike. your combat animation must be flawless.
Artistic direction is great, animations are very rough
Oof, the combat feels like a 2008 game
In 2008 Star Wars The Force Undleashed came out so no, this one looks much worse.
So beautiful, I can't wait to play it !!
This could be the successor from Amazon New World. If they polish up like they do in warframe then soulframe could really be the one! Ladies! Save yo eggs for this game!
Verminia is a waifu material
So excited for the art lol
This game is poetry in motion :O Can't wait to play it!
DE's weaknesses when it comes to animations in melee combat and bosses is really showing here, they had the same problems with the Drifter combat in Warframe and they are are showing here. Clunky, stilted and floaty is how I would describe it, these are problems they have never fixed and issues they have always brushed off because everything else in the main Warframe combat made up for it. Now when a game solely focusing on melee Dark souls style combat, the issues with their animations are really showing.
The bloom and camera shake was also awful, you don't have to be a 10k hour Warframe founder and Veteran like I am, to see how bad this gameplay and movement is, but the fact that I am, I can tell you exactly where its bad , they've had issues with this for many years, so I am completely familiar with how awful this plays and looks even without playing the Alpha/Beta. If they cannot fix these issues , the game will be in trouble.
I've accumulated 8,000 hours in Warframe. Unfortunately, the melee combat in that game feels lackluster due to repetitive animations and a floaty sensation. This issue is exacerbated in the new game, which builds upon Warframe's melee mechanics. It's currently the weakest aspect of the game, and Digital Extremes (DE) should seriously reconsider the floatiness of the combat. If not addressed, it could become a significant problem. Improving the feel of combat could also benefit Warframe in the future, once these issues are resolved in the new IP.
I strongly urge DE to introduce at least three distinct animations that change depending on the situation, and to provide tangible feedback when strikes connect with enemies. While controller users can feel this feedback through vibration, it's challenging to replicate for mouse and keyboard players without such haptic feedback. Visual indicators might not be the best solution, as they could detract from the overall visual experience. DE could learn valuable lessons from games like Black Myth Wukong, God of War, or even Elden Ring in refining these aspects.
People gotta stop saying it’s a soulslike game when it’s not. They literally said its not a soulslike game.
@@GamingAnimeNerd Not souls-like, but the inspiration is pretty obvious; if anything, they would benefit from souls combat instead of this janky nonsense.
@@GamingAnimeNerd That was literally where the name and inspiration came from, I have been around since the start of both Warframe's and Soulframe's development, so I know exactly where the inspiration came from, they've said as much in the past and even made jokes about the game calling it things like " Eldenframe". It IS a soulslike at least as far as its combat style concerned, regardless its combat is not good, as an action combat game.
@@iFaFo_0 Agreed, they're issues Warframe has suffered from for years, that's been carried over into this game, they fix the melee combat in WF and they fix it here, vice versa too. It's a shame because other aspects of the game are very good, so I hope they can fix the core of it, the combat gameplay.
The game will be great DE will fine tune the game

ironic how the faces of the proto-frames in the Warframe 1999 reveal are BETTER than the faces in Soulframe... when Warframe is almost 12 years old...

I sinceraly hope they dont lauch the game this year, because yeah we Warframe players will play it like every other experimental mode they put on warframe, but if it is for outside players this thing will die day 1.

as much as i want to be excited about this game im tired of desaturated color palettes in fantasy games. making colors pop so its more exciting to look at please. Also the combat needs major improvement from where its at currently

What in the Tanya Harding are these combat animations?!
In short the look/ art of the game is top tier, but man that movement combat is very clunky.
I love warframe and souls like games, souls like priorities its movement/ combat, and bosses. Everything else is just topping on top.
It looks worse than it plays.
@@jamesrule1338 doesn’t make sense, animations affects the feeling of the game
Warframe has gotten away with it for years, thanks to everything else being good, but their melee combat has always been awful and the fact they made a melee focused game is showing all those weaknesses, you can see those weakness in the Drifter combat.
Let them cook the thing, with enough time the animations will feel right.
Dodge roll, r1, dodge roll, repeat
Damn its amazing! Combat and movements may not be elden ring quality, but its amazing for an open world mmo. I think people criticizing the animations are just being worried that warframe, the game they invested thousand of hours into, is going to die once this comes out. Animation looks great!
I know we ain't space ninjas no more but goin' from total fluidity to nearly none just seems strange I guess?
They wanted combat to be more like Dark Souls.
@@Youcancallmeishmaell IMO it’s a serious problem when the world is in Elden Ring combat era already and you are trying to implement a Dark Souls 1 combat.
@@Barro1No, it's not?
@@Youcancallmeishmaellwell elden ring is more fluid than this
@@Barro1 Agreed. In fact, this looks worse than the original Dark Souls. I'm talking about the combat specifically because I can't tell you what the hell is going on here.
Lots of negativity surrounding the combat, which is deserved to be honest, but don't worry team, we know this game has potential. Just keep at it, you'll get there!
This game makes the most recent Lords of the Fallen look like Elden ring in comparison.
In a game where I am rolling around swinging a sword, the last thing I want to feel is stiff, and stiff is the best word I could use to describe the game. I think it looks great and I love the concept, but the animations and overall combat needs some serious work. Take inspiration from dark souls, elden ring, Nier automata, DMC, whatever it is that you want to take inspiration, take it, but combat and overall fluidity of animations need serious work.
Stelar Blade
The rolling, jumping, backstab, and sheath animations are horrendous. Janky asf. And please for the love of god fix the flashbang and solar flares after every attack it makes no sense to not be able to see what im fighting. Why does the character take up 20% of the screen as well??? This is coming from Digital Extremes, do better. Other than that looks good. But if the main gameplay which is fighting is bad, the game will be bad
I think it needs more work on the combat and some animations.
Also VERMINIA PLEASE MARRY ME I BEG-
Watched this live and a few times here already. Monster at the end was the highlight for me, an actually scary looking beast. Hope they make him fight hard. Supper hyped for playing this game.
Looks really rough.
It's literally pre-alpha, what did you expect?
the combat need to be polish fr. i got high hopes on this game! keep on working !
Speaking as someone who has played in preludes for dozens of hours - the game feels much better in the hands when your actually the one playing then it looks in video.
Im sure things will improve on that front too, as the game is still incredibly early (like alpha early), but if you get into preludes before the public release of preludes (which again, preldues is their fancy name for alpha, its like warframe they arent putting out a finished product its "get players in and playing and testing and building the game with us as early as possible") give it a try, it might just surprise you how different combat feels when actually playing vs watching.
That’s a bit of an oxymoron, because skyrims combat feels responsive and handles well, but the animations are bad.
@@SpliffyHusk as someone who has spent many years installing mods to make Skyrim's combat better, I can confidently say Skyrim has one of the worst combat systems in any game.
@@thatonepenguinperson618 yes because of the animations. Playing the game, it doesn’t feel bad. It does what it’s supposed to do, but it doesn’t make it good. That’s why the take was an oxymoron. Bad animation and floaty combat makes the game feel bad.
@@SpliffyHusk I disagree because it's more than just the animations. The game has no hit lag, so your attacks have no impact. There's also no locational damage so hitting certain body parts doesn't do more damage or even affect anything. There's also this strange phenomenon where when you attack, your attack is not linked to the weapon but instead an arc in front of your character. This means that you will "swing" but it just snapshots the enemy in the area and applies damage to them and paints them to look like they took damage. I had to get a mod called Precision to get a functional melee system that actually feels like I'm swinging a weapon.
thats a huge bias. The game is in a rough state still. Alpha or not, their focus is bizarre.
Focus on combat, the rest is already good enough, add impact and weight to the blows, fix the collisions and clumsy animations, fix the intensity of the glow and effects that make attacks unreadable and the screen cluttered.
This comment section is why devs don't show gameplay footage until they're about to release and only give gamers title trailers and cutscene trailers.
Did you see the gameplay demo 10 months ago they showed us!? It looked so much better than this one in every way.
Combat looking rough
It looks like garbage
the Air Bow attack look very odd and the combat is very slow and doesn't seem register and seems to have no weight to it at all
Looks like Sekiro meets Elden Ring
If they release Soulframe like this, in less than a year they will introduce bullet jump and parkour and automatic crossbow with aoe explosion to shift the focus away from the "slow and impactful melee combat".
[DE]Steve screwed over Wayfinder for this? And then had the nerve to say publishers pull out too soon?
The only good part about this is the audio.
EVERYTHING else is bad to horrible.
This has the potential to be some of the worst combat ever for this style of game while giving everyone seizures!
480p-frame
The combat look like trash holy shit. Make the hits look meaty, and make the movement better. I looks clunky as hell
The animations doesn’t have any weighty feels to them so they made the screen shake with every hit to give the illusion of it, basically the worst and cheapest solution to the problem.
I'm sorry, why does everybody say "Delay the game" while it's still in developement with no release date still ?
Maybe they are new people that don't know DE and Warframe, and this will basically be a game in alpha when they let players in.
There's something really magical about this game, I always look forward to seeing where its at in its development

This is literally some early beta of the game and yall complaining like they gonna release it any time soon which obviously they won't. It may look totally different by the time we see it on our screens.
This game is dead on arrival. You guys had more than a decade of developing an action game, and the combat anination still looked like it was made in the early ps3 era. Should have call this game European jank-frame.
Lots of great ideas here. Specifically in an oversaturated genre where everything is already seen, DE constantly innovates and outdoes itself. My hopes are very high and I honestly can't wait to play this.. my only concern? Please, don't be clunky like the Warframe operator/drifter base gameplay.
You can tell who are the random schmucks that stumbled into this compared to warframe vets just from the comments.
I am worried if they plan to release it this year as it was previously stated. Game needs more polishing with the combat and animations overall. Still feels like a Warframe expansion such as the Duviri Paradox.
Wow very creative stuff.
We need more creativity like this in gaming.
gave up half way through. This looks rough as hell. Combat looks dire
Please have a FOV slider with the maximum much wider than this or I'm gonna have motion sickness.
Already in the game same as warframe
I feel like the Warframe combat model doesn't work well without the acrobatics, speed and the hordes and it shows (IMHO) in the trailer. I'm looking forward to this and a lot of things look really cool but the core combat loop feels very off to me
Nice combat you got there, I would buy the game for 5 dollars
Why would you even show this? Were you actually proud of that combat?
7:19 What magnetic skill? Why so bad?
JJ Abrams would be proud of the amount of light flares, that's for sure...
All kidding aside, animation is still stiff, and for the love of god tune down flares, I know it still WIP but make those two a priority in development.
all the animations look floaty :/
I hope there are some kind of katanas in the game
this combat just looks straight unappealing
I think they named the boss after whoever was the lead dev for the combat, because this looks rough. The last gameplay segment they released 10 months ago looked 10 times better did it not? This looks like something iron pineapple would find on steam dumpster diving. I had high hopes for this because I love warframe, but idk about it anymore if this is anywhere near close to how they plan on releasing.
Nothing really catches my attention here. Hopefully they have more to show as they develop
Looks like it has a lot of potential and I like some things that I see, but I see more things that need a lot of work.
Visuals, great. Love the aesthetic, although the colour palette does seem really low in saturation and everything looks kinda, gray and a bit bland. Personally a fan of the Warframe aesthetic it's really unique.
BUT, what is going on with that combat? Enemies and player gliding all over the place, everything looks really clunky, FOV is all over the place during combat, it's really not looking good for showing off yet. It would've likely been better to leave it out until it was ready to be shown off. Warframes fast fluid combat is one of it's key selling points. But combat here looks to be the weakness of this game, and that is the part we'll all mainly be playing the game for. Which is not looking good at all.
Examples;
7:15 the player and the enemies are floating / sliding all over the place. As if the environment and the characters are are not in connection with anything what so ever. The animation of the attacks look kinda cool. But there just doesn't look like there is any coherency at all. The animation and the movement/distance travelled do not line-up in any way. All the shield bashes just seem to slide the player at the enemies and it's really jarring.
8:35 what is even happening? Camera loses the player when jumping in the air. Landing the FOV is right up close, and no way to see what is around you for movement. Get hit by an AOE which came from nowhere. And the rest of this sequence the FOV is way to close.
10:00 were these lighting effect checked for issues against Photosensitive Epilepsy? Because from my (granted quite small amount) of knowledge there is a reason why we don't normally have bright flashes involving blue and red in games for safety concerns. And again, more sliding around. Even when knocked down at the end of the combat starts spinning around on the spot. Again, just seems like the world and the characters are not even aware each other exist.
13:50 again, watch the shield bash after the time freeze, just slides across the floor. This is no where near ready to even be shown off. And from what I have seen with many games in the past when showing off gameplay. The end product is normally not far off what is in gameplay trailers.
Please don't ship the game like this, the combat in this form is pretty bland. There are some cool moments, like the finisher animations, the ability to turn night to day and freezing time for the enemy. That stuff is cool. Everything else.. absolutely no different from any other 'sword and shield' game. The melee combat just looks really uninspired and dull. Which I hate to say as love Warframe.
All excitement for this game for me has completely left me after seeing this, if having to pick between this and Warframe? I'll just stick to Warframe I guess.
game needs serious polish in combat and animation
I really hope the devs listen to the feedback of the combat being too slow and awkward, it is what is going to kill this on launch because the cool art style and story isn't going to carry it. I'm not a souls like enjoyer at all but even i can see the problems here, sadly.
I hope i'm wrong because i have a feeling a soulframe flop is a warframe flop by extension because you guys have clearly pulled a lot of funding into this.
Another problem ive been noticing a lot of everything looking flashy over it being functional kinda? Too much visual fluff which makes it appear gameplay takes a backseat. Again, coming from someone who does not play these kinds of games at all.
Please reduce the screen shake!
