The cortical thickness (measured by ultrasound) is a cause for concern, more so than the size. For instance, the literature varies but here in the U.K, the cut off is 2.5mm and this warrants a biopsy. I received a core biopsy, as my lymph node thickness was 4mm. Many peer reviewed articles mention that anything above 2mm can indicate malignancy, more so they greater the thickness. Obviously if there are many enlarged lymph nodes, that are persistently large, needs investigation. But, many radiology articles focus more on the cortical thickness as opposed to the size. The core biopsy itself, was painless. The needle to give me the local anaesthetic was somewhat painful. But didn't last long. I am waiting on pathology which takes several weeks.

Having a ring of hair around breast is normal. You can use commonly available hair removing creams for that.
