@@johnf.kennedy8085 This might not be the specific reason but on Pence's Governor campaign website he has a section about defunding Planned Parenthood and putting that money into conversion therapy. Sure Planned Parenthood may go against his "good Christian values" so sure make the decision to defund it. But he doesn't stop there, he wanted to take that money and use it to "convert" homosexuals like Buttigieg. While you could argue that those "therapies" were meant for people who want to change their sexual orientations, it would also allow parents to FORCIBLY put their children into those programs.

That myth has been promoted by the boomers and "greatest generation" as a way to count us out before we even have a chance to get involved. On Twitter, I said that Mayor Pete would be perfect to go against Trump because he is the opposite of e
      EVERYTHING Trump is.
A person, who I am guessing is a Trump supporter, said that some people in Indiana believe that Mayor Pete was trying to force them into supporting the lgbtq community or they were being pushed out of South Bend , and that because of that he's made himself unable to be elected in South Bend anymore hence running for president.
Of course I didn't believe that to be true.
First of all, in 2019 someone is forcing someone to believe something they don't and then that someone starts running for president with that skeleton in their closet? I mean can anyone from Indiana tell me if they have heard something about this?

      @tuxsf425 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@jimvelez7307 - Like all cities and towns big and small, there are always places where you can point to if you are looking for problems like urban blight, socioeconomic disparity, etc. When he was governor, what did Mike Pence ever do to help South Bend, the fourth largest city in Indiana? Furthermore, as VP, why does Pence hypocritically lend his support to a POTUS who clearly violates most - if not all - of the conservative "Christian family values" that he claims to espouse?
Don't make the mistake of insinuating that "all the abandoned properties throughout the city" are the result of Pete Buttigieg's doings. He was born in 1982, and the issues that have plagued South Bend for decades even before his birth are actually being addressed by him as its current second-term mayor. To put the issue you have raised in proper context, you should consider these facts from Wikipedia:
"The population of South Bend declined after 1960, when it had a peak population of 132,445. This was chiefly due to migration to suburban areas as well as the demise of Studebaker and other heavy industry. Today, the largest industries in South Bend are health care, education, small business, and tourism. Remaining large corporations include Crowe Horwath, Honeywell, and AM General. Recently, the city population has started to grow for the first time in nearly fifty years. The old Studebaker plant and surrounding area, now called Ignition Park, is being redeveloped as a technology center to attract new industry. The city has also been featured in national news coverage for Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who has achieved recognition for his various economic development projects within the city…"
Contrary to what some conservatives may want to believe, the traditional labor forces and manufactured goods produced by heavy industry of the past won't be coming back, but are being replaced with new technology, computer automation and robotics.

I can't speak for his religious views, but if he truly followed the Bible and the mandate of love like he publicly showed for decades, he would know that homosexuality is undeniably and categorically wrong. "Therefore, whoever knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin."- James 4:17 I personally want to vote for Pete if he makes it through the primaries and becomes the nominee (unlikely, since it will probably be Biden), but I cannot allow the normalization of homosexuality.

@@margaretmccollister6124 The problem with a Medicare buy-in like Mayor Pete is suggesting is that you don't get the majority of the economic benefits you'd get through medicare-for-all and you won't get universal coverage. By streamlining the system, removing profit margins and putting everyone on a single plan you can cut out redundancies, lower costs and provide better care for everyone. Without removing the for profit healthcare system there's no way to get the costs down to make the program sustainable long term. Healthcare rates will continue to rise, people will still go bankrupt because private healthcare companies refused to cover x or y. Not to mention the republicans, pharmaceutical and health insurance companies will fight you tooth and nail regardless of whether you go for a full measure (med-4-all) or half measure (buy-in) so you mine as well go for the full measure because it's provides better care at lower prices and covers EVERYONE.
      As to this...
"I don’t think forcing folks into a policy that they aren’t comfortable with is the way to bring us together."
Sometimes you have to do what's right and trust that people will come along eventually. I mean if we didn't then we'd still have slavery today. That's what leading looks like. The only reason people are afraid of a single payer system is fear mongering and propaganda. Medicare-4-all type systems have successfully existed in every other modern nation for decades. And everyone of those countries pays less and has better results. The only way to push aside the propaganda is to let the citizens see the results first hand when they're seeing their same doctors without having to worry about premiums or surprise medical expenses. When they experience it for themselves and realize it's nothing scary, most will come around.

If you can’t muster a shred of tolerance to look past his sexuality and see all the good he is doing, then you are truly and utterly lost. Humanity is moving forward and closed minded fools such as yourself will eventually be flushed out. It’s already begun. It’s just a matter of time now.

It may seem like this guy doesn't have enough political experience, being "only" a mayor of a city of about 100,000... but it should be noted that he's a graduate of Harvard (BA in history and literature) and Oxford (MPhil in philosophy, politics, and economy... aka "PPE", and interdisciplinary degree. He was a Rhodes Scholar there). So the guy has 7 years of public office administration experience, maybe not the biggest of offices but big enough that I have no doubt he'd listen to his advisers, and an administration under his leadership would be organized and sane. On top of that, he has several years spent busting his ass in interdisciplinary studies which cover a wide range of the expertise one should have to hold such a high office.
So I'm pretty sure this guy would know what to do, if and when he gets there.

And on a global level, environmental issues are a huge issue for *everyone*. So, we need to work on both, and they need to be worked on together, because, in our current reality, they're linked. @theMosen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ChineduOpara Sure, I guess you mean Republican state (!) laws that encourage discrimination against LGBTQ members under the guise of religious freedom. I'm not exactly sure what a president can do about that other than rally against it, it seems like something for the states and courts to figure out. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's some federal law he can push through congress that would help the situation.
But is this really a signature issue of his? I've watched many interviews with him and I've never seen him be more concrete than just hinting at being good for the LGBTQ community (mostly merely by virtue of being gay). I don't mean to be deliberately adverse, if I had ever seen him argue for certain federal laws that would help prevent discrimination of the LGBTQ community I honestly wouldn't be here arguing that he's a zero-issue candidate.

Funny story: I took my parents on an afternoon sailing ⛵️ tour on Lake Michigan a couple years ago, and the captain and his wife were quite friendly, and I was learning about sailing from them. He explained the sails and the rigging, etc.
A few minutes later during a pause, I told him "Hey, I like the cut of your jib." 😂😂😂
(A jib is something to do with the 2 big sails, and the cut of the jib is how they're tied off or their angle to the wind; something to that effect.)
I told him I secretly just always wanted the chance to say that phrase and this was my once in a lifetime opportunity!
PS: if you have the chance and want a great gift for mothers/Father's Day or birthdays, take your parent(s) out on a rented sailing tour. It wasn't terribly expensive (perhaps $25-30/person) and the sailors are typically just individual families who own modest sailboats and this is a way for them to earn a little money to go sailing on a day they'd probably be sailing anyway.
Our boat could probably carry 20-30 people and had a downstairs / below deck (whatever it's called) with couches and chairs and a bathroom/toilet. The family even served us soda from their fridge.
