Cities like Canterbury can enjoy peace and quiet and keep their picturesque historical appearance only because many other cities in the third world suffer from everyday pollution and noise. That's how global division of labour works under capitalism.

Sad isn’t it, when we Americans view these amazing European towns. No paper, bottles, cans etc. littering these streets. We Americans always talk about pride of country etc . Yet we are not showing it in the right way. It’s time to wake up to the impression we make to the rest of the world. These people know real pride and respect for their country !! A beautiful video! 11:30
As someone who lives in Canterbury, the litter problem is horrendous. This video makes the place look serene and idyllic but I promise you, it's not a great place. All the clips in this vid are from a nice bit near the river.
@@AllKindzzzz Yeah, Americans tend to have a bit idealized view of the Europe, similar to how Europeans (till decade ago) tended to view Canada and the US. Being in the US a few times for longer, I can kinda get where this is coming from. Cities are designed in an atrocious way, really unhumane in nature. In Europe, be it west or east, south or north, most cities are designed to be "accessable" on foot. A lot of really wide sidewalks, more or less decent public transport, shops are not cities in themselves but a part of an actual city. These are things we rarely appreciate in Europe but you quickly see somethings wrong when going to places like the US or China (which has its own share of urban issues). And while some places in Europe are bad and attract drug addicts (from my experience most of these seem to be located in the UK and France, probably due to longer history of international global connections), they are nowhere near as bad as an average place in California or Ohio. Places like Skidrow should never be allowed to exist, yet they were planned to be a dumping place for mentally ill and homeless (really, look up how urban planners treated this area in the 70s and 80s). This creates a bit of rose-tinted glasses effect, as if everything is fine and dandy in whole of Europe.
Hm I have also to say don’t even compare with America and ext with Europe but this is there country side witch is like this not London or other capital x cities as you can’t see British British but other European or. I visited Canterbury ( 2017 or 2018) with my French school and I like this city. This energy is so cool with old and new ambiance. One day, I back for two time for visiting this city with my family and I go discover for my parents and brothers 🤞 THIS CITY IS BEAUTIFUL 😊
I lived in Canterbury for two years (2001-2002) doing my masters' degree. It's was such a lovely, boring little town. The place was quiet, most time of the year; it had just one single shopping street back then. But the summer was lovely and I used to enjoy walking from the university campus (University of Kent) to the city centre for shopping.
I was introduced to Canterbury when l was doing my postgraduation in Englis literature and language. This video hss transported me to the bygone era. I adore it...
God sadly made the property developers and conservative councillors very cruel, especially when maintaining the 'historic' and 'quaint' image of the city... which has been desecrated in the last 3 decades by rapacious greed.
Which god was that, they're not all the same as is clear in the Middle East right now. Anyone who lives in Britain knows that most of the time, it is grey wet and miserable so you can't really see the beauty of the flowers etc.
I just hear about Canterbury because of Chaucer Canterbury tales.when I watched this video it makes me happy.thanks for taking us such a beautiful city.
Greetings from Spain. Its houses remind me of the island of Menorca, the British passage during its 70 years of possession still remains in the architecture of its towns.
How beautiful they are. It's absolutely right that greenery and flowers and clear atmosphere provide good health and atmosphere that provides peace in your mind I admire with this beautiful and clean environment.❤️ I appreciate it .👏
