Walpurgis is a celebration in honor of Walpurga, a Christian saint believed to protect against witchcraft. Less known than the Sabbath. In a way that would have been an alternative to their own band name, so something like "Black Walpurgis"?

Very cool raw version of Hand of Doom as being developed. Is it just me, or does Tony seem to mimic the sound of a mosquito approaching someone who's trying to sleep at the beginning of Rat Salad?? (Person tries swatting mosquito away, only for it to return. Then pursuance of the mosquito pest begins...)

Paulette Gordon no this is probably what it was written as before it was released. A lot of times bands have a song written but might have a change of plans with the lyrics. Ozzy was never a songwriter. The one that wrote most of the lyrics was usually Geezer. I think Geezer wrote hand of doom as well.
MrAdvantage1 I see it as a song about a deceving man trying to persuade a girl he knows it not mentally strong to take heroin. and once she's under the spell of the drug he takes control on her mind and controls her with a hand of doom.
MrAdvantage1 but the real meaning is after Vietnam lots of soldiers came back with severe drug addictions. so this song is about the fact that even though they take drugs to forget the atrocities of war. eventually it'll catch up and rip their soul apart.
Use MDR-7506 headphones if you have them. Or crank the treble up... a lot of older, larger home stereo speakers (like my Mach 2s) do not serve up true reference without help. Many headphones don't, either.
