the sky is always so pretty in the levels i love how in the first level theres thick pretty clouds then it goes to non cloudy and it the second level the sky is like a green and this goes on, then in the castle you can see your above all the clouds then at before getting the key there’s peaceful clouds with a beautiful color of blue. i just love this world

I think this shows more than anything that the New super Mario controls, while allowing an unprecedent level of control over your character, have a low skill celling. This tas would be strangely easy to immitate once you've seen the route. Contrast it with the earlier Mario games or the DKC games, where your average person can't do something even close to world records without a lot of practice.
You say 'the tas would be easy to imitate', but the fastest human run for this game is 3:07:27 - several minutes longer than the TAS of ~2:59:12. That's a difference of about 7 minutes, pretty much the same as the difference between the WR SMW 96-exit RTA and TAS. (Which, to be fair, is about half as long, but the point still holds.)

@@dionysusnu3881 just from what can see, picking it up only loses about 1.5sec over ditching it, plus the level gives you such a lovely straight run to the goal. I bet Soig tested both ways and found this way was faster, probably not by much.
