Thanks for sharing. I'm glad to know the Hillendahl Cemetery is now protected by the Texas Historical Commission. I grew up in Spring Branch and so did my mother. She played with one of the children, Maxine Hillendahl. I now live about 16 miles west, near Katy. Spring Branch was a great place to grow up.
I grew up in that area. That used to be a K Mart were those apartments are now.❤.It’s pronounced Hill in dawl. Some low life vandalized the grave markers.Pipe is to hold flowers
I'm so glad it's protected 🙌. It would be nice if his decendants have pictures and they know who is buried in the plots were they are damaged. I have saw the pcv pipe used to put artificial flowers in so the weedeater doesn't hit them.
I'd like to see what the father looked like.. I'm sure one of the family members who is still around maybe has a photo of him. Ahhh, okay. I was curious.
If you know of any free camp sites around you. It would be great if you could do a video on them. I'm in Gatesville. But I live on a fixed income so cheap is best. Great videos, your getting better with each video.
In the summertime, in WI, there's the US Parks National Scenic Riverway. The Upper St.Croix is beautiful, very clean, and camping is free. The sites are rustic, lol, just a fire pit and pic nic table. Outhouses, no running water, but they are very clean and there is a shower for $3 in a town nearby, also clean. Theres a 3 day stay lit nut you can just pack up and go, then come back and it's day one again. I would live on the river in good weather but no one wants to camp with me and I get too freaked out alone. There's no security systems out there but what you do to protect yourself, and fireworks are not allowed. I carry lil firecrackers and a pistol. Rather get a ticket than shoot someone. Never had an occasion that called for me to defend myself, except a muskrat that was triopin cuz??? it wanted to be on the dock and was blocking my way, and I his. I think je thought he could het me to jump off into the water. One firecracker m he was gone.
My first home as a child was right around the corner on Western Drive. I remember even in the ‘50’s this place was a step out of time. Now I live near the Wunche Cemetery in Spring which you have also done a great video on 😊
I grew up and lived in Spring Branch for many years. I still live close by. Hillendahl Cemetary is a strong part of the history of Spring Branch. There used to be a Kmart in that parking lot. Sometimes we would see someone at the cemetary trimming it up. It was well taken care of. However not too long ago it was vandalized...really sad that it was so disrespected. Thank you for sharing.
Someone else mentioned that a k mart was there. I believe it's time for a small clean-up, and i heard about the vandalized on a news clip that I watched.
So the name came from 2 different sources. The name "deadly" came from a player I looked up to in a video game I played in middle school. The word "knot" came from Slipknot, a band I use to listen to back in middle school. I put them together and came up with DeadlyKnot.
Wow, I don't even recognize that intersection anymore. I haven't been out there since 1981 when our family moved. There was no fence around the cemetery, or trees, or shrubs. There was a K-mart in the parking lot.
My first home as a child was right around the corner on Western Drive. I remember even in the ‘50’s this was a place talked about as a step out of time. Now I live not far from the Winchester Cemetery in Spring 😊
Same reply as Tiktok but that carquest used to be a Firestone. Ponchos restaurant was across the street. There and the tree in front of Weiners were the two major hangouts. I lived on Pech and Hammerly. This was 78-82.
Interesting video. I remember seeing Mr. Hillendahl plowing with a mule in the field that was bordered by Long Point on the north, Pech on the west, and Hillendahl on the east. Then they build a K-mart...where all those condo's now stand. (BTW, you got the pronounciation correct ONCE: It's a German name, and the pronunciation is "HILL-en-DOLL." Thanks for taking the time to research & post!
Yeah, Saturday Special & from the Great DeadlyKnot. Now this is rare & Unusual. Shopping Center for the Ghosts when they come out at night? Well Halloween is next week. Thank You & Have A Great Weekend to you also..
very nice video about the Hillendahl family graveyard. thanks for sharing.... I could read a few names..Elizabeth, Johnie and Doretta greetings from Holland
Well, your video made it to a FaceBook site that many of us who grew up in Spring Branch frequent. Please do a bit of research before filming - if at all possible. The name is pronounced Hill-en-Dahl (not Hill-en-Dale). Some one vandalized the Hillendahl Cemetary June 3, 2024. Repairs are supposed to be made to repair the damage.
Oh really? What's the Facebook group called? I figured it was pronounced that. I had 2 different 'pronounces when looking it up. Thank you so much for letting ne know.
@@DeadlyKnot I was the one who shared your video...I hope that is ok. The page is called WE GREW UP IN SPRING BRANCH. So many who grew up there knew of the cemetary and people were very interested in your video. Also...we all do not always get a name right...I am pro on that. Thank you again for the video and your time putting it together.
Have a great weekend! I'm out exploring and filming today.
