I know almost nothing about music, but when I heard Freddy Amigo I went to listen to the three tenors (Carreras, Pvarotti and Domingo) and I liked Freddy Amigo better. His voice is powerful and when he sings honoring that beautiful city in which I have been, he presents us with the soul of Granada in all its splendor. As I said, I know almost nothing about music, but Freddy Amigo's register is baritone?
Not only does he have a great voice, he's also so adorably humble, adorably amateurish with his gestures, and extremely smart in his choice of song. Everybody is tired of the standard opera songs opera singers chose, and it's surprising it took so long for Granada to be picked! Bravo Freddy!
I was as moved as anyone by Paul Potts debut, but Freddy Amigo's voice dwarfs any of the amateur opera singers I've seen and heard. The depth and power of his voice, his clarity of tone are breath taking. Extraordinary.
First time I’ve heard this amazing gentleman & that saddens me , as this video is 10 yrs old. What an incredible voice from this sweet, humble man. It really angers me how the judges (& sadly, quite a few in the audience were sniggering) assume, if someone is older, awkward or overweight, that they’ll be terrible. How wrong they are to judge someone by their external appearance! Not everyone is a supermodel & that is just fine. Looks fade but as we see, talent like this gentleman’s, does not. Such a wonderful, resonant tone! I’m a classily trained singer & have listened to the greatest voices of all time. Tenors such as Gigli & Björling & baritones such as Gobbi, Merrill & Milnes. Believe me, this guy’s vocal tone & quality are better than Paul Potts (who’s a tenor, anyway). Never judge a book by its cover, as greatness may lie within. This man was so humble & talented & was crying with emotion at everyone’s reaction (obviously, he’s accustomed to not being taken seriously). I’m so v happy for him that he showed them up. I sincerely hope he’s doing well now, as he deserves opportunities to share his talent. 👏
Life is amazing. This Chilean immigrant in Sweden, looking for a better life, who works as a nurse, sings in his neighborhood, for his co-workers and for the elderly, giving them the treasure that is his voice. It can be seen that he is a humble man who sings wonderfully and with passion, simply for the pleasure of singing and giving his talent to simple people like him. Simply wonderful.
I'm a Mexican from was born Agustin Lara the writer of this song GRANADA, and I can't belived how this person sing this song CONGRATULATION AND VIVA MEXICO
I just love this kind of situation, where you learn to not judge a book by the cover. When a short, stubby little man walked onto the stage, with his funny meek attitude and funny voice, most people in the audience were chuckling at him. Then when the music started playing and he did his little dance, the audience was chuckling even more, and expecting some kind of completely ridiculous performance. And then he starts singing like a world class singer, and everybody's awestruck.
***** I can assure you that your knowledge of music is so crappy that you couldn't manage to understand in its full dimension a symphony by Bruckner, Mahler or Shostakovich; just to mention a few of my favorite composers. Your judgement is respected but for sure lacks class and shows a poor education, to use a tepid word and to be politically correct. The fact the guy is from hispanic background do not diminishes his amazing voice in front of a public whose language is scandinavian; a hard act to follow, to learn Swedish for a person educated in a latin language. How many languages do you speak? Most of the people with low I.Q. use to make remarks like this to feel a little better. I for my part speak four languages and have 2 University degrees. Sorry to know that still there is people like you in this world and in these times. By the way I am a latino, and have read over 100 books in English and French.
Freddy, your Granada is absolutely one of the bests including the world's famous, finest tenors' performances. You touched me so deeply. God bless you!
I really love this kind of lessons on not judging people by appearances. A short stubby man enters the stage and he seems to be a big funny and absent-minded, and everybody's quietly laughing at him, expecting him to sound silly and laughable. Then he starts his little dance and everyone's expecting him to behave like a buffoon... and then he starts singing and everybody's jaw drops to the floor. The audience immediately loves him.

He sings like a seasoned professional - he ought to tour in opera houses and quit nursing. Talent like this should be heard. He can have an amazing career ahead of him if placed in the right hands! BRAVO! APPLAUSE WITH STANDING OVATION here folks!

My dads nurse!! Oh god he's a wonderful person! I am happy to have met him and even more so that he cared for my father, cause he cares deeply about the patients he's watching over. I hope he gets far in his career, he deserves it!!
HI THERE!! I'M 4 YEARS LATE, BUT I'M YELLING FOR YOU TO HEAR THIS: MANICCA AT THIS AGE YOU HAD A WISDOM TO WRITE THIS. YOU'RE AN AMAZING PERSON. I WISH YOU ALL YOUR DREAMS TO COME TRUE. GOD BLESS
Amazing! I have heard many versions of Granada, but this... This is something! Many other singers have monotonous voice. This man can make it live again, probably like Agustin Lara once wanted it to be performed.
I know almost nothing about music, but when I heard Freddy Amigo I went to listen to the three tenors (Carreras, Pvarotti and Domingo) and I liked Freddy Amigo better. I agree and second what you have written. The world needs more talent of this magnitude to be recognized. He is happy because he feels their appreciation of his talent. He repeats "finally" - clearly he dreamed of this moment. This is what music and performance should be about: he loves the music and his audience - and they loved him back for giving them something very special.I wish him well!
A person who loves to sing and does not know how they can also uplift other people with their gift of singing and with humility afterwards is magical. May you keep singing in your life
Anyone with good hearing cannot mistake the sound of a good singer, when we are losing the all time greats, its singers like these that should be given a chance. His voice has a sound that carries clear across the theater, the reaction of this audience speaks for itself, as well as the judges, anyone who cannot enjoy this mans singing, just isn't listening. Our opinions are not important, he is crying happy tears, and God bless him, let's hope we see more of him, good luck my friend. Clive
The best audition, I've seen ever ! What a god given talent and a wonderful person, too ! I' am so happy, to find this clip on You Tube ! This is THE opera voice !
Imagine waking up after surgery a bit groggy and your nurse starts singing this. I love to see the humbleness of your ordinary Joe when he/she finds out they're very talented.
Life is amazing. This Chilean immigrant in Sweden, looking for a better life, who works as a nurse, sings in his neighborhood, for his co-workers and for the elderly, giving them the treasure that is his voice. Really good voice and lots of passion. Moving to see how overcome he was. Happy for him to have that moment, especially if he's ill like the notes on the video say. I've been listening to opera for years and think he did a good job.
OMG!!! What a rare gem indeed. I hope for & wish the best for this man. He has a trumpet in his voice. What a god given talent he has. I hope he can use it to the fullest.

Not sure how someone can go through life with that talent and not know they are that good. He should have been sending in CDs to record companies 10 years ago. Great voice.
I watched this again following your reply, and even now, he brings tears to my eyes. Even Lanza sang in the rain soaked streets before he became famous. Good luck and thank you for your response. Hope he won the competition. Clive
This dude is EPIC! If you look up the word EPIC, his picture is now there. I have watched the Paul Potts video 6,427 times, this dude is Paul's foreign brother from another mother.
Guide him well, there are a few people that realy jump-out like him. Freddy Amigo, It showes in your voise, your eyes, your heart, and your own amazement.
Things like this are true presents! It's amazing to see this shy guy singing like this with all his heart. Certainly there are things to say about his execution of Granada but when you hear someone singing with the soul and the heart wa can only say : thank you!
Ayy por dios. Canto su Corazon! que voz! Well, I just have to say, he doesn't have to put on an accent for the song, it is his language and he can sing it perfectly, not just the song, but the words are completely meaningful when he sings it, because the language is his own as well. It is like Pavarotti singing in Italian. He doesn't have to search for the Italian accent, well neither does Freddy for this song. Pefecto Freddy. Sigue cantando tu corazon hombre! te deseo muchos exitos.
it is unfortunately all too common for people to judge a book by the cover. Well, Freddy sings magnificently, and his talent will speak for itself, and Freddy will get the love and respect that he deserves.
well... I suppose he would be stereotype of a migrant worker in Sweden. "what is this migrant hospital cleaner doing here", "on the top of it he wants to sing nothing more nothing less but opera" thats what you can clearly read between the lines of what that "judge" is saying.
Amazing voice! Wonderful tone and pitch. . . Simply astounding! He will go far! He brings you into a worldwind of song which transports you into the feel of the song so very well! BRAVO! BRAVO!
Its singers like you and Paul P, and Amira W., that keeps hope alive in my heart that main stream opera will open there eyes and see that they need to change, and grow with the times, I love opera, but you make it so hard. I no longer go to the opera house... they need help in singing opera but the are where main stream needs to be.
He was Jussi Björling and he lived 1911-1960, was swedish but also had some finnish blood in him. His father was also musician and was Jussi´s first music teacher. Björling performed all the biggest opeara houses in Europe, USA and Britain. He also left a very wide selection of recordings. Wonderful singer!
so he may prefer being a nurse; but this guy's voice seems to have more depth, perhaps a wee bit stronger than Potts. Defiinitely would prefer this guy.
GREAT! absolutely talented! There is a professional singing lesson guide on www.singbe.com/talent for anyone who wants to be a singer and improve their voice. The vocal lessons are for all levels. Just practice a little daily and really get good. great share
Jeremy Lobenstien Anyone is the key word here. Not so! Singers of this man's caliber are found seldom to never! This individual's vocal skill is extraordinary! He could go directly to La Scala and be greeted with enthusiasm!
Richard Tattershall Really? Compare to these two young singers, both younger than this gentleman (and yes he has a nice voice): /watch?v=YdstsTGgd84 and /watch?v=LUPrcWCzTT4 (this aria is actually wrong for the voice of the second singer, but he still should provide a nice comparison). La Scala? First of all, it's questionable he'd be heard in La Scala without a mic, second, he will not survive a full opera or be able to sing most of the music outside of this aria. He has a good voice, but watch a video of Alagna being booed at La Scala, and then try to honestly say how this gentleman compares. Don't confuse popera with opera. While he does have a good voice, he'd not get past round one in any opera competition.
The most surprising thing on this video is that the contestant was surprised by his own performance. You did a great job amigo, love your voice. Bust most off all i like u as who you are, humble but gifted with an amazing voice.
I am from Granada Spain and It is one of the best performances of this song I have ever heard.
Ok 👌
I wish to visit an area rich in archaeological monuments here called the Kingdom of Scientists. From Algeria

I noticed his tonality straight away - and yes better than Potts (not hating though)

WarpRulez Well more like average man. I wouldnt call him short and stubby.
ikr kindve just like on Britain got talent with Susan Boyle
...and Paul Potts.
"Me neither." How sincere and honest.
He did not know how talented he was.
+Absaalookemensch , No, he said "me neither" about the response from the people. Well, it's not important... ;) Good day.
After all these years I keep coming back to Freddy, this performance is VERY good. Check out that finish, just wow!
Freddy, your Granada is absolutely one of the bests including the world's famous, finest tenors' performances. You touched me so deeply. God bless you!
What a voice, incredible. He sounds like Mario Lanza. The patients in the nursing home will live a long life listening to him. God Bless him.

This guy may have the greatest voice of any singer in any of the contests. Astonishing: as close to perfection as it gets.

That truly was incredible. I hope that he is still singing opera, because many will be happy.
Wow!! This guy can sing already like a Professional Oprah Singer. They are not plenty worldwide, so give him the respect he dearly deserve.
O
Why do people have to be so harsh in their judgment, rude, proud and uplifted, Where is the milk of human kindness? Where is the love and respect?

WOW! OUTSTANDING!!!!! What an incredible voice, musician, performer.....what a gift!!
Another OMG moment! That was spectacular ! He can hold a note for days.
WOW!!!!! one word. PERFECT.
Oh really? Have you listened any RIGHT rendition of "Granada" before? Let me doubt it.
Absolutely fantastic singing from a great man!!
Realmente, música é uma arte, e não é pra qualquer um.
Perfeito!!!
(minhas saudações do Brasil)
so amazing-most musical traditional opera singer I've heard.
love his voice.. so amazing :D
how is possible that 245 people disliked this beautiful song with this beautiful voice . I don't understand human beings.
My dad know this guy he's friend with my dad and he's from chile
thatone dog q
Thought he was wonderful however I thought the judges at the beginning were very rude to him, there was no need for that as he is fabulous.
I could listen to Freddy a thousand times a day. Fantastic!
I cried. That was unreal.
lol you must live in cave thinking so
Fantastic, I watched this video about 8 years ago, so good. I hope he is doing good.
What's with the comparison, people??? Why not just sit back and enjoy the singing talents from each and everyone of these people!! Geez!!!!!!! Lol
Oh WOW... the guy can really sing.
he's got a great voice; lots of depth and yes he does sing better than Potts!
so he may prefer being a nurse; but this guy's voice seems to have more depth, perhaps a wee bit stronger than Potts.
Richard Tattershall
Really?
Very good voice and will go on with his singing vpice
The most surprising thing on this video is that the contestant was surprised by his own performance. You did a great job amigo, love your voice. Bust most off all i like u as who you are, humble but gifted with an amazing voice.
Incredible!!!!!!
Not since Mario Lanza have I heard a singer that projects his soul like he does.
Just amazing....
Wow, talented if I ever saw any. This guy should be top of the world with that performance. Wtg Sweeden from Denmark
people who have the smirk on their faces aren't laughing at you now they're standing and applauding you (the wife)
Oh em gee! ! ! ! Fantastic! I'm blown away by this. Love it. I hope he becomes famous! :-)
he looks alot like my dad, my girlfriend she showed it to me and the part where he starts crying really makes me teary eyed.
