Infact I don't even like the 3d version because they are incapable of producing any masterpiece soundtrack or new player. This is why a project should not be stretched like elastic when story ends. One day I hope they make an entire anime series on KOF from start to finish. Kyo is a baddass and non-cliche character that's charismatic. Plus, there are hundreds of characters in KOF, each with layered stories, which for a fighting game is super impressive.
My favorite is Hanoko's story. She just wants to be a sumo but traditions and her stature keeps people from taking her serious. I would love to see her arc get a satisfying ending, she's got such heart and unique design for what amounted to a side character

So true man, 97 had the best story (Kyo iroi and chizuru vs Orochi) and 98 had the proven best fight system balance till now. And 97 originated the top notch sound track, esaka and Orochi hell group themes are very very good.

It would be a bit tough to make a series, since so much happened but time doesn't move and no one really ages.
