When Southgate Creek is restored, (and guarantee that there are but a very few who have ever heard of Southgate Creek), a large piece of the puzzle will be put back in place. I grew up on the River in the late 1950's & 1960's. It is a shadow of what it once was. Seeing 15-20 king salmon rolling on a section of the River at once was common then; not so now. Maybe pinks but not kings.
I live in west seattle and work in kent valley (right down the street from green river and drive home along the duwamish when I commute). It makes me sick what we’ve done to this river and the gross literal dumps our government allows to be right in the Banks of this river with zero restoration/habit . It’s shameful.
Maybe you should look at the dam on the upper end of that river ever year in July and August the river is so low the salmon can not go up in September only the pinks go up during that time the Kings and silver's are stuck in the lower duwamish. Trust me I seen a school of wild king salmon go for about 200 to zero due to snagging and habitats loss in auburn Washington. Then they gotta face a gauntlet of net's that stretch all the way to the bottom of the lower end along with water loss the wild Kings are gone along with the wild steelhead.
YES!!!!! The Duwamish/ green needs major help, the rivers banks- sand and mud in Tukwila area literally smells like raw sewage... and I’m sure it is. I won’t keep a fish out of it unless it has sea lice on it. The industrial and urban areas have ruined that system.
These people are heroes. Thanks Google Earth for sharing this story. Looking forward to supporting American Rivers.
Love fishing the duwamish and green River. Definitely home!
