Okay, so! We were calling Breakout hitbox Plank by accident, so don't mind that haha, Breakout has the next closest front-end which is why we used that one instead. Also! We have confirmation from Devin Connors (Psyonix Community Manager) that this change was intentional. What do you guys think about that? They have to introduce a free-use car with this hitbox soon, right?

If they’re never releasing rocket league 2 on unreal 5, they might as well re-add custom hitboxes to make the game exciting again.
i would agree that it’s unfair to have a hitbox that is exclusive to those who will pay for the car
I think coconut is right when he is saying that it is the same hitbox just moved forward and that the kickoffs will be the same. Im pretty certain that the kickoffs are based on the hitbox location so it should be the same for all plank cars including this one. I would assume that if the change is intentional that they would have known that it would not effect the kickoffs just the location of the car skin on the hitbox. If that makes sense.
Easy way to find out. Breakout hitbox and the F1 side by side on the kickoff where theres not somebody on the corners. At that point you could determine how they spawn.

Believe it or not, kickoff spawns are actually based on the visual model center and not the physics model. That's why an Octane and a Fennec will actually spawn at different distances to the ball as well. The hitbox is the same, but the alignment with the visual has an offset. The new hitbox has a visual offset, AND it also shifts the box further ahead of the physics center of mass. That means you get a longer lever for more powerful flicks and some other advantages. It can make recoveries more difficult though.
So does that mean that the Octane physics hitbox starts closer to the ball than the Fennec physics hitbox? (Since the Octane physics hitbox sticks out in front of the Octane visual model)
@@pineapple.smoothiecurrently, at the time of kick off, the distance of the hitboxes from the ball is equal, so if your hitbox is further forward then the car will be further back so that the front of the hitbox is at the same distance from the ball so it doesn't matter the hitbox, it will be at the same distance but not the car itself
its interesting, in theory they should just make the physics the same across all hitbox types then if u need to adjust one like they did for this by moving it forward it would just accurately protray the front better with the model while losing a bit from the back. just a theory but idk what spegetti they cooked up or how it would feel in game

Precisely, notice that difficulty, when doing the backflip. But it's certainly a fair price to pay if I feel better playing it than using the Octane.

It just looks like the shifted the plank hitbox forward so it would better line up with the car. Which is a good thing. It used to let the nose of the car go into the ball which made visually lining up your shots impossible.
I hope they revisit more misaligned cars and shift their hitboxes to match the car models better.
But they need to normalize the start positions to the center of the hit box.
Yeah the lamborghini is actually unplayable. If you're spending money on a car, it needs to match the hitbox. SO many times I was like "How did i not hit that??" Come to find out, literally a quarter of the front does not even have a hitbox. It's actually a sad display of effort from the team.
They technically had more of this before the update mentioned at the beginning of the video. Having different hit boxes makes different cars better than others which some people aren’t a fan of. Granted everyone who is competitive at the game uses like 3 to 4 car types so idk why the change was all that necessary
I'm willing to bet the reason Coconut wasn't able to demo you all those times is due to the hitbox moving up on the car

Back with another idea for you Leth. Forgive me if you've already done this or if there is a limitation but what about if the map goes completely dark and only the ball is highlighted (maybe just white). You could also just leave the ball pitch black as well. This could happen maybe randomly, at set intervals, or maybe a few seconds after you hit the ball. It would be hard to keep your location and the location of other players. I know you've done where meme things appear and other things like the pixel/resolution/blurry vision but I don't remember something like this. Anyways, thanks for another video. Should be interesting to see what they do with the plank going forward.
This would be really interesting! Or if the only sources of light on the map are the boost pads and a glowing ball. So if the map is dark and the cars are invisible, it could be called ghost ball or something lol

@@king2fc I believe the video you’re referencing is called Rocket League in the Dark, but the idea is a little different because the light sources are the headlights and the sky outside the arena.
That hitbox basically extends your reach while making you harder to demo from behind. Win-Win

Just for the record, that number is a bug. That number of games would take 36111 years to complete without overtimes and with a 100% win rate.
@@AlphaHenriksenagreed, if you assume an average of 5 minutes per match, and 100% wins, Leth would 2.2 million hours in the game. And I don't know if the custom games or even private matches count towards those wins

It definitely looks like the *volume* of the hitbox stayed the same and was only moved forward. That said, the wheels and- more importantly- the *center of gravity* (the point the car rotates around) did not change.
Even if kickoffs are set up relative to the front of the hitbox, the F1 car will be able to generate the most powerful front-end touches because there’s more torque being generated by that increased distance.
if they're going to do this they should just make it like the good old days back when hitboxes at least sorta kinda matched the visual of the car. last time i bought a car was when the james bond car came out and i was pretty put off when i realized that the entire rear end had no hitbox at all
Another thing to note about this: The more forward hitbox means that any ball touches with the front of the car will be sent more forwards and less to the side, making it easier to be precise. The game basically draws a line from the point where the car flips (which hasn't changed) to the contact point of the ball, which is now further forward, meaning that the direction you bump the ball will be more forwards
So awesome the first RLCS went down like that. Couldn't have been scripted better. OverZero and the air dribble, still talked about today. Remember watching live, probably the reason I still watch. So hype.
The hitbox being moved forward also means that demos from the back may be more difficult.

They're soooooooo Canadian and I'm 100% here for it.
There was that sunless video where he made that custom super sized car. The hitbox mattered most as far as matching the appearance of the car. The hitbox that was programmed first for sunless was huge but didn't match up well for the car, he kept missing badly initially because the hitbox was too far back. The ball wouldn't touch the hitbox until going through the nose. Once his programmer adjusted it so the hitbox more closely matched to the appearance of the car, he played a lot better.
It made me wish cars had their own hitbox to closely match the appearance. Not that I'd use it, but it's one of the reasons the scarab is so bad. Its hitbox sits so far in front of the cosmetic appearance of the car that it's nearly impossible to get accurate touches. I don't think it's pay to win in this case because the hitbox is still very close to the plank. It's just more accurate to the representation of the car. In fact I'm anticipating being bugged that people are going to complain about this car being pay to win.

I'm so glad they did this actually, the fact that the old hitbox would have the ball clip so far into the front wing made me never want to use the F1 car, and I was really excited when I got it. Time to go try it out!

When it had dominus hitbox, I bought it unknowingly and refunded this car immediately after going to freeplay with it... The front bumper sank into ground more than any other car before because there was no actual hitbox there.

As an XL Roadhog player, **every** part of my car is used to attack and defend. I will back flip, reverse, punt, demo, side-slam, corkscrew and dive-bomb the ball wherever I have the opportunity to do so ensuring my team either keeps control, or gains control of the field. The XL cares not of the direction you're going, so longer as you get there.
Been nearly 10 years since I been in RL seriously, but to hear Lethamyr say he doesn't back hand flick brings some value to my has-been Venom.

The controller dying is a rocket league issue. It always died when I tabbed out and tabbed back in. Or typed in game chat. Then after reinstalling some stuff and adding some stuff it randomly fixed itself.
I mean, one way to test the kickoff theory is to wait until a straight ahead kick off, turn on all notifications (since it'll show first touch noti) then just drive straight to the ball with just boost and see who gets to the ball first. If you get first touch against every other hitbox, theory proven.
The advantage here comes from when you do flicks. While the car has the exact same length as the dominus, it’s front end is further from its centre of rotation and is therefore travelling faster while the car is rotating. This allows the car to hit the ball faster as when you flip the hit the ball the front of the car will be hitting the ball at a higher speed than usual
TL;DR:
It’s not the length of the hitbox that is the problem, but rather it’s position

moving the centre of rotation to anywhere that isn't in the middle of the front and rear wheels would cause the car to feel extremely weird when flipping, because if it were to be moved it forward the rear wheels would rotate faster than the fronts. This is the exact same situation the main hitbox is in where the centre of rotation is currently. Basically, psyonix has a choice of: move the centre of rotation and make the car really weird to drive, or keep the centre of rotation the same and make the car pay to win. You can see which option they chose.@@alex222333ful

I assume kickoff spawns are based on the front of the hitbox, or at least the midpoint of the hitbox, so it should be the same as other plank hitboxes right? I could be wrong about kickoff spawns though
There's a small yellow dot that shows the origin of the vehicle. That is what spawns are based off of

I played rocket league for 2 years already now and im diamond I div IV. I used the f1 car for 2 years now and i like the car. It has a very good hitbox and i can handle it very well. Now i want to switch to octane but i need to learn the handling completely every than.

Isnt it the same hitbox with it just moved a bit forward so the actual length stays the same. Then the only advantage would be of they start based on wheel placement ok kickoff, then they would reach ball faster.

Here's a question for ya. Does the newer 2022 F1 car have the same hitbox? If it's recurring every year, they could opt into a free car with the same hitbox in a battlepass. If this is the only one and it's no longer available, then that's kinda cheap. I have both packs anyways so it doesn't really matter for me, but for anyone who likes plank/dominus style, flat cars, it's a problem
