After posting this I realized I left out two things. First: my sample atlas tree forgot to take the Solidarity wheel in the bottom right. I’ll edit that into the linked tree in the description but it won’t appear in the video. I would 100% prioritize that before getting extra Shrine or Jun nodes.
Second: there’s a beginner-oriented topic I missed in the video: how you originally come into contact with the Atlas. So very briefly:
After you complete the final campaign boss and enter the portal that pops up you will be taken back to the Act 10 town, Oriath. There you have the opportunity to collect your reward of 2 skill points from Lani AND talk to Lilly Roth who will offer to sail you from Oriath to the epilogue area: the Karui Shores.
This is where you’ll be directed to meet Kirac for the first time and he will give you the initial rundown about the Atlas, maps, and the map device, while also giving you a free map item in case you didn’t find any during the campaign.
From there you’re off to the races and the rest of this guide picks up as normal. Sorry for the omission!

@@buffalobaronCommendable goal and it's definitely been working especially since there's not that much stuff that is very detailed, personally a video on how to actually be tanky would be nice, different layers of defense you can use and why use them and some more detailed info on what they all do, like I had no idea spell suppression helps with physical hits because I just assumed they're all attacks, could be nice to do it alongside a damage one or just general stuff veterans would know like chaos damage not being reflected. Outside of that I think crafting is something a lot of people wont interact with because of the nature of how luck based and complicated it seems though u already have a video on that, another thing that could help but I imagine would be hard to do is something like things to look for when looking at builds and maybe some tips on making your own though that's definitely way more advanced, but yeah some guidelines on builds would be nice since I think the first build u follow will make or break the game. Thanks again.

Forgot to mention but another helpful video would be how to navigate the trade site, figuring out how to search for specific corrupted or searing exarch/eater of worlds has been a massive time saver and I imagine there's other stuff I don't know about

    • @buffalobaron
      @buffalobaron  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

@@electro3447 nice one, I agree, I think that’s a topic a lot of more experienced players take for granted and forget how much they’ve picked up instinctively over the years.
I’ll noodle on that one, but I can see some definite possibilities for a tutorial there. Probably with a few case examples of “this is what I want, how do I find it?”

    • @buffalobaron
      @buffalobaron  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@electro3447 Builds are something I agonize over when posting to this channel. Creating builds from scratch is such a nuanced and advanced skill that even I’m only mediocre at it, and you’re absolutely right that a build makes or breaks a beginner’s experience of the game, so I don’t want to post anything that a new player won’t find helpful. I’ve mostly posted build guides or showcases aimed at players with more experience.
I’d love to be able to put together a super beginner friendly guide on a build that hasn’t been covered that way before, but most of the good ones are “taken” (if that makes sense) by more prolific new-player friendly content creators like Pohx, Zizaran, FuzzyDucksy, Jorgen, Subtractem, Enki, Fezz etc. (and back in the day: Kay, ShakCentral, EngineeringEternity and others). Suffice it to say I think about this topic a lot and if I’m able to come up with something that meets my own high standards I will definitely post it.
Your other points are equally well taken and I will definitely incorporate those into my thoughts on future video topics.

Hi @buffalobaron - just wanted to give you an update.
For the first time since playing POE back in 2018, I've finally completed the atlas and got all 4 voidstones.
Just wanted to share my journey in getting the voidstones.
I know in the video, you said that exarch and eater are the 1st two voidstones that you will be getting. This wasn't so clear in game.
I just kept on following the Maven quest and wondering why I haven't gotten any voidstones yet. After reading other materials, it's supposed to be the exarch and eater to give me the 1st two so I just enabled the tick box for the corresponding boss and progressed that way.
From what I learned, Maven and the other boss give you the other 2 void stones. Now, I haven't had the chance to fight them myself but since watching your previous video on how to make currency, I just paid for a carry from the trade chat. However, i do look forward to fighting these other bosses myself and finally complete the game on my own.

@@mazzith I suggest considering each previous league mechanic as equivalent. If it’s an unusual way of encountering monsters and it’s associated with a previous league, just file that away in your brain under the same category of “here’s a tool in my toolbelt, a choice for currency making.”
None are automatically better or worse than any others, though they can vary from league to league based on balance changes and economy changes.
Consider each league mechanic its own thing and understand them individually.
The rogue marker thing is heist, a mechanic that takes place almost entirely OUTSIDE the atlas; it’s very similar to delve except you can get even further away from the atlas if you want. At least with delve you have to go back to get the sulphite to power the delve mine cart, it has SOME mandatory tie to the atlas. With heist you can literally buy the contracts from other players and never visit maps again if you don’t want. It’s a fairly niche playstyle but one than many people do enjoy.

This will be useful for next league for sure!
3.25 was my first league mapping ever so I approached it with as few guides as possible and just played the game. Re ran so many maps (got all rank 1 maps, then rank 2 etc etc) to get one next to it. The only map I had to trade for was "forbidden woods" it just would not drop. Atm I only have the Elder voidstone left, just a matter of gathering enough currency to progress the boss and learn. Been trying all of the different "core" encounters and it has been a blast.
My biggest blunder was following a "alc and go" strat from Maxroll where they put a point into "crystal resonance" which gave the map bosses a chance to turn into literal gods and stopped my progress around tier 13-14 maps and it took me a while to realise what was going on lol.
Some questions after spending 200 hours in the leauge:
How does quantity % and the size of the map affect drops? If I choose a shorter layout like Jungle valley, do I on average get less quantity of mobs vs a longer/bigger map? in the tradeoff being able get to the map boss faster?
Would be interest to hear about how to "work" a map, what is common strats to run maps fast and get 2min runs/map and really farm a lot in a little time. What maps people tend to avoid vs maps people love to run (layout wise, cards you can scry to any map so not that relevant) And maybe classes that serve different mapping purposes. Combinations of atlas passive trees with maps i.e I picked jungle valley mostly get fast access to Niko´s mine nodes and betrayal people.

@buffalobaron Thanks so much for taking the time to respond! I will share from the perspective of someone who had about 5 hours of gameplay in a couple days before league start. I now have about 80 hours of total gameplay, and by my estimation another 20-30 hours worth of reading guides, and watching videos (If its not obvious yet, I've caught the bug.) Other experience of note: More hours than I care to admit in Diablo 2.
The beginner guides, and tips for campaign style videos were really helpful to pick up all of the basics. I shuffled through quite a few gleaning bits and pieces, and also listening to things that were essentially Greek. Pressing through the campaign, and getting to maps helped make most of it clear. The hardest thing to discern then and still are the relative terms. Things like "once you are wealthy" or early game, mid game, and end game builds.
What I find most difficult about reading a guide on something like maxroll (POB still eludes me, though I am learning.) Is determining what stage I am in because it doesn't say anything like: "Once you can comfortably run 8 mod t16 maps you are in mid game." I know this can be a bit of a moving target based on your build, but...
My other major difficulty is determining the amount of wealth I should have before attempting a specific craft. I realize once again that this is a moving target, but I have no clue if a bow craft being described is 60 chaos or 10 divine. It would be helpful to know a rough idea of what I am getting myself into, and how much wealth I should be prepared to use. I believe I saw mention of a tool that can calculate odds on a craft? These are my biggest obstacles at the moment.
I would be happy to share more if that could help!

@@Barbell_Neptune I will say that those other videos I mentioned make a damned fine effort at what youre describing, and I respect the heck out of them for it. But on the whole it’s a much taller “ask” than you probably realize. Currency making is complex, sure, but as you saw there are some general principles that go a long way. Crafting…that’s a whole other level. We’re talking like a mid level university class in terms of complexity and length.
But your point is well taken and you’ve given me something to think about. Maybe there’s a way I can do an overview that is cognizant of (and alerts the viewer to) the relative level of complexity and expense of each tool and method described. I’ll have a think on that, thank you for the suggestion.

@@bobbymoore8030 Just in case you are not aware: I don’t normally play standard myself but I just tested this and it worked for me: my understanding has always been that if you run one of your old maps in standard WITHOUT converting it to the new patch version it’ll actually cascade through and register all your completions aside from any new T16 maps that happened to rotate in that patch.
In my test just now I confirmed that only the T16s which had rotated in (4 maps) remained incomplete but the other 111 maps immediately updated to completed status.
And even though the bonus objectives show as incomplete I still have my fully allocated passive skill tree with all the points, so you’d really only need to redo those if the visual appearance of being incomplete bothered you, but I don’t think it has any practical impact?

@@bobbymoore8030 right, no, I’m with you. The tree gets “wiped” every patch but you can restore it instantly by running a single map as long as you don’t convert that map to the new patch’s atlas type, or whatever it’s called.
If you just grab any random map you had the day before the patch, pop it in and kill the boss, you’re going to get a massive string of popup messages alone the the right of side of the screen as 100+ maps suddenly all get re-registered as completed.

If you’re not running any of those mechanics I’d be interested in seeing a screenshot of your atlas; is there any possibility that some or all of your voidstones are sitting in the “holding” area off to the left rather than in the central location?
Because they ARE supposed to restrict you from dropping lower tier maps from the majority of monsters, unless I missed a recent patch note. Thank you for the feedback though, I’m curious to see how this turns out!

Maybe they are coming from something weird but I completely sustain my farming without buying anything from Kirac or trade. We are talking 100-200 maps a day. Maybe I'll take out my voidstones and see if I start to drop even more maps.
It could be from the % chance for one Monster in each of your Maps to drop an additional connected map modifier from the atlas passive tree. I have 24% from the nodes I have allotted. But I often get multiple maps from a single map so maybe its this combined with something else.
