Elton John's discography consists of 31 studio albums, 5 live albums, 10 soundtrack albums, 16 compilation albums, 4 extended plays, 3 tribute albums, 4 collaboration albums, and 2 holiday albums. He deserves respect. I bet this news caster can't even remember what he said yesterday let alone sing a song 20 years old. Tell your newscaster to grow up.

Its not necessarily about the memory, of course you know the lyrics that you wrote, but when anxiety hits, and huge lights and stress and pressure of people's expectations, lots of artists get blank space in their head and cannot remember one single word. Lyrics on the stage don't mean they are not prepared well or that they don't give a shit, it is not that simple. And it is not that simple to just quit performing because it's something you love the most and can't live without it- paradox, I know. Lewis explained it well in one interview.
People who never experienced it on their skin can't understand it, but judging without knowing what is happening inside someone's head is the stupidest thing you can do.

Please trip over your own shoes Piers with your criticism ...
(Elton) He has just done OVER 300 shows on a farewell tour - all with different set lists, different timezone, different rushes to stage from arriving flights to venues that you as an artist hope have been set up correctly by the team and different set lengths according to the venues licences, therefore different songs following others that were not the same as last night, not to mention in different countries different local famous guests that come on stage and fill in parts of his songs - the man is 76.... he doesnt get to rehearse each show on a 300+ tour.
This is just a safety net that everyone who is staring at the stage (in this case over 100,000) gets word perfect performance as it should be ..
Looking forward to your wrinkly rants at 76.... id imagine with no autocue yeah ?

It's too much to expect that older artists are gonna remember every word from every song on their set list every gig they do...
And not just older artists will use teleprompters because of memory issues but sometimes there are other issues at play...
Elton used sheet music when he played at Princess Diana's funeral because he said he didn't want to take a chance and forget a note because of being overcome with emotion... he was good friends with her too...
... and Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip used a teleprompter for his final 10 gigs before he passed away from brain cancer because he couldn't remember most of the words to his songs; but he still powered through after his terminal diagnosis and did 10 concerts.💕

Hundreds of festivalgoers left Glastonbury a day early and skipped Elton John's set after an 'awful' year left them feeling 'let down'.
Hordes of burnt-out revellers passed through the exit gates for good yesterday as many complained 'the vibe was completely off this year'.
Overcrowdedness, sweltering temperatures and disappointing headline acts including the Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey and Guns N' Roses were all contributing factors to the mass exodus.
More than 200,000 people pile into the site on Worthy Farm, Somerset, and with tickets costing a minimum of £350 - expectations on the weekend are understandably high.
Liam Rogan, 24, said: 'People are just done with it, it's depressing. Glastonbury's been awful this year.
Nothing has gone well and none of the acts were show-stopping. I left the Arctic Monkeys, they were that awful.'
Audiences at Worthy Farm and watching at home were disappointed with the Arctic Monkeys who performed their lesser-known new material and played all their hits at a sedentary pace.
Mollie Fox, 23, said: 'People told me Glastonbury is magical and it just hasn't been that. The vibe was completely off this year. It's too hot, dusty and over-packed - they need to stop over-selling tickets.
'I don't want to moan because I want to be happy on the last day and because I spent so much on the ticket.
Glastonbury really as become the biggest pile of crap for watching actual decent live music.

Piers...was going to say 'you should know better', but then its you...Elton didn't write the songs...do you actually ever do any research AT ALL? Take a leaf...no actually study for a few years from the Sean Evans hymnbook.
You really don't have to be a complete tosser all your life, as, amazingly, there are/were a few times over the past 20 years when you've actually had something worthwhile to say.
    A few times...

Rip Lewis my sweet angel You were the best of us dear…who could of knew that there was no auto tune at the event and this would happen…it was most unfortunate to suddenly catch a severe case of the Tourette’s syndrome like that for the first time ever whilst on stage in front of thousands at Glastonbury

He’s taken a break from touring but he also needs to take a break from eating.. he looks awful. Idk why everyone’s praising him for doing the obvious? I’ll applaud him if he does come back next year genuinely looking healthier but he’ll most likely spends his days at the pub and eating rubbish anyway 🙄
