I just came across your channel and im like amazed.usually most channels take forever to upload, but you guys upload so fast with so many animations.are you guys like a whole animation team dedicated to this channel,or do you guys do other stuff?
The music is by Jérémy Ben Ammar. He also worked on other Gobelins students' projects like "The Story of Three Sisters" and "Dance with the Seashells". Great works indeed!
I love the entire scene in his old home. The plant life taking over, the objects frozen in time, the way he starts to suffocate from his own memories and it literally comes crashing down on him.
I think the horse symbolizes his childhood. We see a vision of it on the day Simon and Agathe can safely re-enter the zone, intact, but it's in a dreamlike haze -- tough to say if it's real or fantasy. Upon actually entering the zone, its bones can soon be seen in the grass, confirming once up close, it's dead and gone. No way to get it back. It's there in the waterlogged photo album drowning in Simon's old house, and a vision like one we saw near the start watches Simon and Agathe in the boat. By sailing away, Simon leaves the fantasy it can be reclaimed behind for good, but its ghost still peacefully haunts the town without him. Absolutely adored this short. The atmosphere is fantastic.
Ever since watching this film two months ago, I decided to start documenting my life and progress. It reminds me how time does not last forever and we only have so long here on this earth which makes it so special. I’m leaving my school this year and transferring soon and leaving my friends and a place I call home behind. I know I probably won’t be in touch with some of them so I’m enjoying it while it lasts and have been using an audio recorder to interview them and record special moments so I can be transferred back to them like the characters in the film. I also have a camera I’ll be getting in the mail too to also document my life. I’m so glad I stumbled across this film as it has been a wake up call to enjoy my life and the special moments I share with others. Thank you for creating this work of art. :)
The geese migrating caught my interest, it’s always a sign of environmental recovery when animals migrate to historical sites once more. Waterfowl in particular, since most of the times they’re really sensitive to environmental changes Also, the colors used in the film are ASTOUNDING, huge props to the use of color theory and color language! The way Simon’s blue clothes and blue bedsheets stand out in his overgrown, now wild home, like plastic in the woods. AND THE HORSE AS WELL!!! I’m not sure what the symbolism of it is, but considering how historically it has symbolized humanity’s success, I think it might be about people returning.
I like how when he's remembering the past, the aspect ratio goes from 16:9 to 4:3. The music at the end reminds me a lot of Disasterpeace's music (Hyper Light Drifter, Fez)
So incredibly glad to have had the chance to aid on this film! My contribution may not have been more than some water ripples, but I'm very thankful for the opportunity, and by GOD have you all done a stellar job (this is my first time seeing it in full)!! I felt entierly captivated, glued to the screen, holding my breath until Simon got to breathe after the house scene. So intricately crafted, I hope you're all so SO proud of yourselves! ❤️✨
@@baratobenito Thank you so much! 🥹❤️ I only did the ripple on the shot where Simon is inside the house, the other water shots were done by other incredible artists! Credit where credit is due ❤️🌊
Very beautiful animation short, reminds me of what happened in Chernobyl and even years after it happened how wildlife was thriving even in a contaminated zone.
Chornobyl is one of the names for plant Artemisia vulgaris commonly known as mugwort and also as wormwood. So there IS a conection! It`s quite poetic espesially because of "nuclear power PLANT", still this animation gives so much hope for all abandoned locations like Chornobyl
First time watching this I thought the guys name was Gene and he was taking in the grief of losing his childhood and the two sailing away was like symbolism of him leaving or moving on from his past, literally and figuratively with his colleague whom he shared most of his first stages of grief in losing his childhood, denial, but after reading the description I realized I over analyzed the animation short film. In my defense it easy to get lost in the sauce while watching this. It was so beautifully animated and draw as well as voice acted, it showed a lot in a short amount of time. Truly yet another amazing film produced.
I like that it can be both interpreted as the prophecy from Book of Revelations about star Wormwood that falls from the sky as one of the signs of the end of times and that wormwood can be translated to "полин" or "чорнобиль" Chornobyl and it being connected to exclusion zone. Still the theme of Simon returning to his home and having this second chance to finaly process his grief and let it go is so heartwarming and sad simultaneously. Having to involuntarily flee your home due to industrial or natural disaster or war and etc is so devastating. But his reconection with past gives a plethora of hope
The moment when he is covered in grass describes a feeling of nostalgia. He yearns for his childhood and memories. And when he touches his homeland he wants to drown into those memories

i really like the game board on 5:47 that has all the key elements: house, tower, horse, boat and two figures. on the other level i see this as journey into the past, that is overwhelming, nostalgic, and sad maybe because of long lost connection. but again he comes over it and takes one good memory/thing (boat) and keeps it.
There's a beautiful uniqueness from the short films this studio provides that keeps me coming back to rewatch the older films, and makes me excited to see new ones💖
The environmental/background animation is amazing... the way the ground whooshes at 0:38, all the walking through the grass... The collapse of the stair at 4:27, and then of the window at 6:30 were so seamless, I've never seen that done so well! (I'd love to hear more about how that was done) The build from 6:00 to 6:30 worked so well too, the animation, pacing, and sound and music really came together.
this, this is me, thank you for giving me this, sometimes you really miss those old times, when you had different plans and you had a different life, but life is beautiful anywhere we go, we just have to find it

i left country where i was living my entire life not long ago. i feel this film i am not from people who wants to go back. i hate that place, it hurted me so much. everything that i am, my whole being, is claimed wrong and bad in this place. i can go to prison there for just fact of existing. at some point it was bearable to be there, but then one day it became impossible to stay there. i took decision in one day. week and i left. moment changed everhthing but a lot of people who left this place have something there. things. places. they have something good connected to this horrific place. they have connection to it i know a lot of people dreaming of day it is all ending and they can go back. for me it sounds same as sudden back to zero level of radiation. it doesn't work like this the dream of thing which once was home, destroied then suddenly, somehow becoming real again. i know people with this dream. can't say if its sad but. in that country i see house in ruins. h orse c оr рs. sometimes its sad to me to see that people see alive horse instead of that i see. it makes them wants to go to this place. and it is scary letting them go
Wow. That is a beuatiful comment and ties so well with the movie. It's like this film was made to describe your story. I hope wherever it is you find yourself today, you can truly call it home!
So the little boy on the tape recorder is Simon himself? How does the battery still hold charge after a decade? I do like Agathe's spectacles and how they dramatically exaggerate her eyes. Very expressive. And I like the board game. The pieces are always trying to come home.
The cause of this all is subtly, yet definitely not mundane radiation. The initial shot, the sudden disappearance of radiation, the liquid still in the cup, that... moment he had in the house, how he "disappears like that," its all subtle storytelling
This was an incredibly immersive short! It made me feel emotional yet it was very meditative. The artstyle, the animation, the sound and the story worked so well together. I'm completely at awe! Very impressive!💜💜💜
Revelation 8:10-13 10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water- 11 the name of the star is Wormwood.[a] A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter. 12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night. 13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”
