    Excellent work Sheila! I love the Midisid you created- I’ll have to check the MidiKalimba as well. Thanks for your work.

    Awesome video! I just got my MIDIKalimba and I'm so excited to try it out. I really like what you're doing here with the MT32.Extra cool that it supports MIDI over USB so you could run both with a single cable I assume. I am excited to see where the module part goes. I love the idea of the Pi Zero with a hat. As you point out, it should work with any MIDI controller. It's a MIDI pocketsynth of sorts. Brilliant. BTW, I really liked those steel drum tones... I can't wait to see how this develops.

      I can't wait to see what you do with it. I'm finding it really enjoyable to use, I hope you do too.

      I love the instrument. I had a brief time playing a real one in the brass band after an accident involving my face.

    We wrote most of our first album using an mt32, at that time I had a mirage, then a friend gave me a proteus, which ended the mt32's reign. An idiot roady managed to run over the proteus, remarkably it still worked. Good times.

      It still needs a little work, a 'percussion' scale which will force channel 10 and map the best drums to the pads. I'm thinking bass, snare, open hh, closed hh, 3xtoms and 2x cymbals.

      I thought those few notes might get a content match (I'm not monetising at all, but sometimes recognisable melodies are 'claimed' by 'owners'. Sometimes legitimately, sometimes spuriously). But no problems!

    Cool. Have you already tried connecting the midi kalimba with a single cable and that hat? Thought it was only meant to be used with mister, as it isn't using regular usb protocol? Or are you planning to imitate that functionality? And adapt the hat for midi kalimba? I wondered if i could use that hat with a battery powered midi keyboard.

    • @midi_in
      @midi_in  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Forget the hat I showed in the video, as you say it is designed for use with the mister so it's not suitable for our purposes. (though it's only missing the DAC, so it might be possible to tap the Pi Zero for PWM output which doesn't sound bad.) I have tried my full-size hat (which I'm using in the video) with a Pi Zero and it worked like a charm. That hat contains the traditional MIDI circuitry which isn't needed for midi over USB, so I've designed a PI Zero-sized hat with the screen, DAC and buttons, which is all we need. Prototype boards are on their way to me, so watch for details on that front.

      @@ibendiben I'll probably be showing it here on TH-cam but you might also like to join MIDIKalimba's mailing list - I'll very probably send out a message to that list when the PI Zero MT32Pi hat is up and running. peacockmedia.software/kalimba
