  • Experience the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich through this creative municipal film. Accompany a couple in costume on their journey around Woolwich, highlighting various services provided by the town. See children playing in a charming park, engineers undertaking road works, and people in the swimming baths. Stay tuned to the end when the couple take a picturesque walk through the grounds of Well Hall Pleasaunce, Eltham, on the way to the theatre. While it was made as a sound film, the original soundtrack was too technically difficult to transfer.
This film is among the interesting collection of the Greenwich Heritage Centre. (The full catalogue record for this film, LSA/0244, is available at www.londonsscreenarchives.org.uk).

Wonderful film! I could watch it over and over again. So many happy memories of a childhood spent in those streets but sadly era that is long gone.

Lost good old unique soulful quiet clean England .... Living in another country I knew you just like that from fiction and textbooks! Alas, now all this beauty and purity has remained on the tapes of celuloid, even in a digitized form. Beloved England, we will always remember you just like that!

Wonderful market ..Don't know if any of the original
Market trader families are still there. Lovely market
back in the 50s,60s and 70s.Very much in the

I moved to Woolwich last weekend. Not leaving for a long time. The place is changing fast... in a good way! I'll do a modern version of this video in a few years.

Fascinating! I was brought up in Tooting and Brixton before moving to East London. Lovely nostalgic film of life at a much slower pace. Way better than today's multi-cultural rat race.

Oh my god!! Abbey Wood station was just a small minor station in those days!!! In a few months it's going to be a major interchange due to the new Elizabeth tube line, back then the nearest tube was New Cross!!

I recognise that road, were the couple got out the taxi thats howarth road , just off Mcleod rd in Abbeywood, were i lived with my mum dad and sisters, i wonder if they are still there, very unlikely , they would be in their 80s or much older.

Old Woolwich! Obliterated by Greenwich Council and the demolition of rows of neat Victorian terrace housing and the replacement by gutter tower blocks!
