I only use stainless steel frets, and last a live time. Does not wear my strings and I play every day bru.... Polish your frets like a mirror and make sure you have that small line on top of fret before sanding and polished..... If your fret don't have a flatness on top your fret won't last that long in the other hand.... But I love stainless steel frets, they stay mirror and looks expensive like they do.... Sound wise tops noted notes much brighter and clear even with old strings you can compare..... That's facts but also my opinion.... Ask Tommy Emmanuel or other legends if you play a lot and that's all you do, what do they use???
For a long time, I have understood that the best and most efficient guitar playing technique is to use only as much down pressure on the string as is necessary to produce a clear note and to pick/strum only as hard as may be necessary, with a bias towards less. This conserves energy in the player, reduces fret and string wear, and creates a more controlled and nuanced tone. Playing with fingers rather than a pick is a definite string saver as well, and produces very nice sounds, however, I like the sound of a pick most of the time for electric guitar, Jeff Beck and Chris Buck notwithstanding. I agree about too hard/steel frets. I had a guitar with them and went through strings too quickly. Thanks for an enlightening talk.
I don’t know what happened to mine then because I’ve only had my Taylor 1 month and the B string 1st fret wire is already grooved and I don’t really play that hard. I mainly finger pick and when I do strum with a pick, it not insanely aggressive so I honestly don’t know how my Taylor could’ve gotten as bad as it is in that matter of time.
@@arnoldward1036 Well actually mine has gotten worse and I'm still waiting for the guitar store I bought it from to replace the frets because I actually noticed it buzzing when I bought it new, but the tech at the store didn't think it was from the frets. But Ive only had it for about half a year and it is almost beginning to be unplayable on the upper frets. I can't put a capo on the first fret without having buzzing even strumming open and adjusting the tightness of the capo. I'm not sure about yours tho. Also I think maybe it could be the factory in Mexico because I have a 210 so our guitars were made in the Mexico factory.
Its a crock taylor uses extremly soft metal frets i have same issue refrett every 18 month until i put in stainless i love them its allways the steel unwound strings that eat frets never the softter wound strings as. This guy says taylor make great guitars but they need to change there frett material
This too has happened to me. I had a new grand Auditorium 114e. The first one I got, I played for about a month, I was going to put on my first set of strings on it, when I noticed big dents on the frets. The first 4 frets. I complained to the store I bought it from, which they replaced with another new one from another store. I was about to put my second set of strings on it when I noticed the same thing happening. I called Taylor but they said that it wasn't apart of there warranty. As I explained, these are two brand new Taylor guitars. But it seems they are going to do nothing about it. I will now wait to see what the store is about to do for me IF nothing is done or if I Don't get my money back. I will get someone else to fix it and sell it, which.I will lose some money. Bit it is better than.pay8ng big bucks for new frets. I am 67 years old now. This is turning me off. My not play guitar again. To me this is just wrong There just ripping off the little guy. I don't think you would have this problem with an expensive guitar.

I’ve got a new Taylor Gt, frets are showing wear with only 12 hours play !! I’m sure Taylor is using Chinese fret wire , I’m going to sell the Taylor and refret my other guitars with stainless, I would rather buy more strings than have to worry about constant refretting . It’s a crock that it changes tone that much ! Just a money saving business decision!
Is it normal for the frets to make dents in the fret on a new taylor that only has had two sets of strings on them. What about a new taylor that's now had three set of strings on it. These are two Brand new Taylor guitars. Is that normal use? So if you buy a Taylor guitar you will pay big dollars to put on new frets after there so called warranty. What's TAYLORS warranty then.
Agreed! I did google search on fret wear on taylor guitar and then on other mfrs. Taylor had a lot of blogs and comments on various forums. Blaming the player is a good scapegoat.
Why don't you use titanium fret wires for longer life? I'd rather wear the strings than the frets, because re-stringing is easier than re-fretting and I don't think there is obvious difference in the warmth sound of the guitar. You should have tested and compared the stainless fret with your standard fret wire side by side in this review to make it more convincing...

I have a taylor i have refreted it every 18 months for the last seven year i have other guitars i had for 35 years that have never been refreted same guy same style of play yes the last time i refreted i used stainless its no harder on strings than the extreamly soft taylor fret wire was by the way the unwound steel strings not the brass wound softer metal strings are the ones that eat up frets the moral of my story dont always buy a slales pitch by a factory rep
