    'Loud and clear' Thanks for your thorough explanation as always. We thought we would 'try' to have residencia before importing our goods, but I now understand that it is almost crucial to play our cards in the right order. And I will forget the truck and trailer.
    Thanks for all that you do. You likely save many people from unnecessary hardship

    Simon & Garfunkel redux lyrics,
    “Hello new Nicca’s, who do not know,
    The volume here will start to grow,”…”We’ve never known, the Sound of Silence”

    Hi Scott, more great information as usual! Would you give the same advice regarding “importing” a few kitchen gadgets? We have some Ninja blenders and food processors that we want to bring with us, along with some really good knives, and we were just planning on packing those and bringing them with us. We realize we may have to pay some tax on those, but could it be as bad as you say for the metal shop paraphernalia?

      Basic rule of thumb is.... if you feel you are going to "import" something, rather than using it as a traveler, think twice. Is paying huge taxes and worse, potentially spending days of your life to get it out of aduana worth it compared to boxing it and shipping it the "proper" way? Having to "maybe pay 100% taxes" alone is no big deal. It's a small price to get what you want in on isolated items. If that was the only issue, I'd do it all the time. But that's not even close to being the real problem. The real problem is the risk of what happened to me to bring in some networking gear and a big gaming computer.... three ENTIRE days in aduana in Managua.
      YOu have to stay in the city. You have to spend entire days sitting in customs (aduana) with no air conditioning, no food, no bathrooms and hope that you manage to pay your fees in Spanish and get out okay. THe people are nice, the process isn't terrible... but it's unbearably long and unless you have literally nothing in your life worth doing, it's a huge waste of your life force.

    So when “your told” pack all the things you need in rubber containers, call the airlines to see how much or how many are allowed are they just clothes!?!
    I have also seen individuals bring as many suitcases as possible per airline allowances…. One women said 10 suitcases for a family of 4!

      We traditionally moved with 11 suitcases and we are a family of four. We've lived in eight countries and 11 was our magic number.

    My Spanish is limited, can I find Spanish courses in Leon perhaps at the Universities?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spanish is taught everywhere in Latin America. No shortage of that. Getting a class in the university would be, I think, super weird and I can't imagine that being offered. Everyone speaks Spanish here, so teaching it wouldn't make sense. But there are language schools and teachers everywhere.

      @@ScottAlanMillerVlog Thanks Scott. I am taking a Spanish course here in Montreal but want to continue in Nicaragua. Since I decided to make my move to Nicaragua I open with your podcast daily due to all the bases you cover and the way you present that info. Thanks again, your channel is exceptional.
