    Please be kind to yourself. Our crafting is to bring us joy, not to cause anxiety and self recrimination. It's a journey to be savoured. Thanks for your company as I prepared and enjoyed my dinner. 👩‍🌾🐑🐮

    Writing this to remind myself too, since we are both the same age and have the same tendency to beat ourselves up/put on the pressure - you are amazing! Truly. You’ve learned so many crafts and have been so dedicated to them, to the community, to your social media (which definitely is work). I love your photography and your aesthetic/color palette - Erin is my favorite dyer too and both of you inspire me so much. (Also you are beautiful and literally never look messy like you talked about here - I’m always like…how does she look so perfect all the time?) We will never stop being perfectionists but it’s important to remember that no one sees our flaws the way we do. I always look forward to seeing your creations!

      hey! thanks so much for emphasizing with those feelings! I am worried sometimes when I upload and leave so many of my authentic and raw moments in the video, like maybe talking badly about my hair or something I’ve done - I very much try to keep negative self talk to a minimum in my day to day life but I wouldn’t ever want anyone to think I’m perfect or to think that I think so because I think it’s human to have those feelings and make mistakes - I don’t even beat myself up a lot, I just want to share my mistakes so people take value from my videos, I feel like this is easily misunderstood really but I’ve been dealing with my perfectionist tendencies quite well and not caring as much anymore and just go with the learnings and move on🤞🏼
      thank you so much for the kind words, I appreciate it so much 🧡

    I think your hand spun looks amazing. I've started spinning just recently and it was so helpful to see the skeins that "didn't work out" due to the s and z directions. I had read about it, but couldn't really imagine what would happen. I just imagine how wonderful it will be to wear the lovely shawl that you made completely from hand. It will be a beauty!

      I’m so glad this was helpful and a visual aid to understanding another layer of spinning - honestly I’m super glad for everything I was able to learn through podcasts so I totally get the feeling as well :) I know right?!

    hi Marlene! you know I love listening to your podcast and hearing all about your making process. And I am even a bigger fan when we share our learning curve. Besides, enjoy the summer, take time for yourself as much as you need, and congrats on another cute video, you are making me want to cast on a hype sweater lol. Have a lush summer!

    Good to see you back Marlene. I particularly like your hand spun Traveler Shaw. You must be so proud of it. How exciting too for the Yarn Jam collaboration. I’m sure that you will have chosen some beautiful neutrals as your special colour.

    I am so glad to see you back after your break! I hope you enjoyed filming again. You got me excited about the yarn I have for my Stripe Hype sweater. And I loved your notion of being blind to the small details of knitting patterns. I can relate! That happens to me too, definitely. 😂
    I bet your bespoke fleece will have lots of green and some brown and a light flax kind of color, maybe some lovely light brown/blonde to reflect your hair!

    Just last night, I was deciding whether I should cast on size 3 or 4 of the Feels Right Tee! I thought it would look good on me with 1-2cm of negative ease (size 3) but I was concerned about the sleeves being too small. Thank you for talking through your decision making - it’s super helpful to hear from someone who faced this EXACT issue. I never would’ve thought about sizing up for the sleeves on my own.

      yay!! I’m so happy you found this helpful!
      since my row gauge was a bit smaller (more rows required to reach the length called for) I didn’t have problems with picking up enough stitches, just make sure you remember that too :)

  • @NeedleAndFred
    @NeedleAndFred 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Lovely podcast as ever, watched while dyeing today. I’ve found if my gauge isn’t the same for flat vs in the round, I swap out only the purling needle to a size down in the flat and that seems to adjust my purl gauge to match 😊

    With your handspun, you can transfer onto another bobbin on your wheel in the opposite direction you plyed, to take out the excessive twist/boucle effect. You can control with your fingers how much you want it to unravel before it winds onto the new bobbin.

    • @marleneknits
      @marleneknits  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      that’s what I did with one of the singles, it worked out great and will try to do it again - but I do think I’ll have to un-ply beforehand since it’s not a problem of it “just” being over plied but rather one of the singles being twisted in the wrong direction

    Beautiful episode! I think we should film video podcasts because we knit, not to knit because the podcast has to come out. I enjoy podcasts of those knitters who release episodes once every few months even, so your viewers will always stay 💓 Pascuali saffira is on my list to try, but if you say it peels so much, would you knit with this yarn again? its not cheap, so i m thinking if it worth it.. Overall, beautiful projects and finished objects!

    • @marleneknits
      @marleneknits  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      thanks! I don’t think I would buy the yarn again though I quite like it in my project except for the pilling - but there are so many other great yarns out there that I still want to try so I probably wouldn’t go for this one a second time :)

    In North America (I'm in Canada), we have a chocolate called turtles and it has pecans in it, so I would assume that the colour you used for the sock is referring to a pie inspired by turtles chocolate? It's a beautiful colour!

    • @marleneknits
      @marleneknits  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      that sounds about right! I wasn’t sure what it was representing so thanks for the insight ☺️ the colorway is stunning!

    I always confuse S and Z twist. It's easier for me to remember to spin singles clockwise (to the right) and ply counterclockwise (to the left). As long as you're consistent it doesn't really matter. Could your thinner yarns be held double to meet the same gauge as what you started with? Unspinning the odd yarns can be tedious, but if you need the yardage for the shawl, it could be worth it. Best of luck!

    • @marleneknits
      @marleneknits  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      that’s a good shout, I’ll try and remember it like that as well ☺️
      unfortunately I don’t have enough meterage to hold it double but I don’t mind that you can see the difference, it shows the learning curve I’ve taken. thank you ❤

    I live seeing yr makes snd it was good to learn about that raffia yarn. I crocheted a bag wth ot and it was tricky. Ive noticed that many young European knitters choose beige, brown cream shades. So many do that I wonder if it's the climate. I tried to figure out what was different and ut was your hair being down a nd you cldnt stop playing with it. . :-)))))))) i like the simplicity of the too youre wearing but... it looks tight under yr arm i cldnt stand that so do y think it's a design fail or something else? Bye bye for now. Xxx

      hey Linda, thanks so much! the yarn was tricky indeed!
      I did play a lot with my hair haha yeah, it’s a lot and wavy and thick and it bothers me sometimes especially when filming for over an hour and when it’s warm but I still very much love it 😋
      the top is a very tight fitting shirt and it fits great! it’s not at all a fail :)
      thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
