Great job as always. Your attention to proper install does not go un noticed I'm sure. I enjoy your videos bringing light to some of these "installers" doing sub par work.
Ive used 6"iron in old berber install but havent had a seam look like that ! Ive even used it in commerical seams with great results !! Did I see spike marks on that carpet ?? Sad !!
He mostly does builder grade stuff, I was off of work for a little while, and the store owner needed to get the job done for the client. Jobs like this usually go to me.
Ran that iron too hot for sure... and I don't even know what to say about the pattern. The Kool glide would have been my choice on this carpet, lower profile.
That’s why the other layer ran the carpet the other direction. He didn’t want to haul a 36 footer up those stairs. I would have hauled the 36 footer up the stairs so I didn’t have those seams crossing the windows and the light.
Yeah, that’s exactly right, about 20 or 25 minutes to get that roll of carpet up the stairs without killing everything and ourselves. It was worth it in the long run because the job turned out beautiful.
It's too bad the guy wasn't with you to learn what he did wrong because I'm sure he does fine work with most residential fare. That carpet is a different beast though. Maybe I'm just being too empathetic because I've certainly had my share of bad seems.
Yeah, patterned carpet is definitely different than a traditional builders grade carpet, he has been working for the store for a while and honestly his work is not that bad
Suuup? For all you youngins,, 6inch tape used to be industry standard on berbers! And the berbers of yesteryear,, you would have 4 guys to get that beast up those stairs! I wonder if this carpet is LISTED as a NO PATTERN MATCH? Lots of them are! Poor dude missed everything on that install ! Sure hope you charged accordingly on this one ! Theres quite a difference in labor costs across this country! Almost all rug has bows these days ! When you roll out the rug and it's bad like that ,,you should contact the store or work room and let them know ! Take a bunch of pics also. Protect your money! Used to show up on a job with your tools,, now you need a van and all the supplies. The money's there ,, you just have to get it or sometimes walk away. Your kids don't need dinner every night, nor new shoes every 6months. Good day!
yes you cant just keep cutting 6 8 inches of the side just because the pattern runs out some ownes has to fall on the manufacturer in this case or every job will have more seams than neede and in spots there not needed or rolls are gunna have to be 10 metres wide so we can get the good bits out of them lol
The store I work at has 5 crews, 3 of the 5 crews are man and women crews. Husband and wife, father and daughter, 36’ is tough for everyone, but I guarantee none of these women weigh over 120lbs. One of them is 60 years old. The women are hard as nails but I am sure they would be running it the shorter way.
Wow! The 6in iron isn't even all the problem. Those are horrible seams. Did he straight edge them? Lol man how would anyone think that they could get away with leaving it looking like that? That pattern an easy one too. What's the holes in the backing from? Stay nails? The edges of carpet always dive off like that. Must be how it's made.
I totally agree with u the 6in. Iron is not the problem and I don't use the 6in.iron anyway..But like u said that was a simple pattern and had the installer row ran the carpet on the correct rows to match the seams it never would have stuck out like a soar thumb. But yeah that was a terrible install and the installer had no clue on what they were doing
The carpet usually will dive off like that near the edges, because when it is coming off the creel and getting rolled up during the manufacture process, the edges tend to get a little stretched as it is been rolled up
Hey Reuben this installer must live in the same area as you I don’t understand why he doesn’t team up with you so you can teach him the proper way to install carpet. I’m pretty sure you’d be willing to help anybody that you could.🤦♂️🤷♂️ he has probably one of the best installers right in the same area. Why not take advantage of the knowledge you have to offer. Have you ever tried to reach out to these guys to give them help? Wouldn’t they want to better themselves?
man thats bad whats the spike you refer to i was thinking it was stop nails to but why would you stop nail that room anyway i reall dont understand how he thought those seams would pass surley he would notice putting two white lines together obviously just doesnt give a toss liked 👍 this video but hated to see it
Thats not what six inch seams look like, he literally did every single thing wrong, that iron is my baby and was designed for this, tried and true since before I was born, you see plenty of 4 inch seems that are terrible but you don't throw out your iron because of it do you, thats an unfair assessment sir.
OK OK, I guess I was dancing with the wolves when I made this comment, lots of people like the 6 inch irons I have heard it from quite a few people since I put this video out
No worries, I'm sure it was frustrating seeing all that when you got on the job, those were obviously really bad and I would have been pissed off too lol

Yep you sure did see a spike mark
Wow. Pretty easy pattern to spot. How does that guy still have a job??
He mostly does builder grade stuff, I was off of work for a little while, and the store owner needed to get the job done for the client. Jobs like this usually go to me.
@@FloorsbySouthernboys even builder grade stuff still needs some attention to detail which i seriously doubt he gives any

Yep that’s exactly what I did today
cool gluide still wont make that pattern though

I'd like to see the finished job
It is coming, it was a two day job, so I finished it the following day, and I will get the video footage up ASAP
At first glance, iron was too hot. 2nd,made seam directly on padding.
Well dang dang dang
Yup

@@jb-es5zjman I hear you there, the manufacture, definitely needs to do something about this problem
That wasn't stretched properly, &maybe ran the iron too hot. Don't knock the 6, there's a way to stretch it and keep it flat
He ran his iron to hot, probably didn’t use the seam buster hot melt seam sealer gun
I agree, too hot.
You should be a inspector also.I dont blame dude other than the ugly seem.36ft cut up the stairs I would have turned it and burnt a good seam.
I’m working on it

@@markmurdock280 I don't use a 6in either. Can't believe someone could leave a job with it looking like that.
The holes in the back of the carpet were from a spike, he obviously used a spike to stretched in this Berber carpet

kool glide makes seaming brain dead easy but most installers wont buy the iron

The poor quality install had nothing to do with a 6" iron.
