    I'm glad that N scale is finally starting to catch up with HO when it comes to things such as sound and ditch lights. I could be wrong but I believe I seen an ad for another model soon to be released that had working rear ditch lights as well. N scale is truly becoming as realistic as HO for the modelers who have space constraints. Excellent video!

    Hi Deryk, Thank's for a good honest review. All and overall, you can't beat a Kato locomotive's running performance. There maybe better detailed locomotives, ie Fox Valley, Intermountain, and Atlas, Broadway Limited, but no engines run better than a Kato. Mike

    The echo on the horn sounds like it's right out of a railroad sound effects tape. I'm not a fan. Nice review. You covered all the bases. Thanks. 😎👍

    Nice look Deryk! BLI has always had the cab interior lights that go out oon speed step 3, since their first sound equipped locomotives. I kinda like it, but wish that in switchers anyway, you could leave the cab lights on.
    Despite the usual Chinese RTR problems... that thing is VERY impressive for N Scale! It's going to start making me regret getting out...

    I thought I'd wait to pick up mine up.. But I have the same issues that a lot of people talk about it even stalls on brand new Kato track. Maybe they should buy a scale trains model and see how quality control is done.. If you are going to spend this much money on an engine it should be at or above Scale trains QA not way below.

    So Deryk, my experience with BLI was similar, but not so extreme. However, I suggest you turn down the volume on the loco, as on my EMD 7 Paragon 2 , I think the speaker is shot from having the sound set at max. BTW, I too have had to send in two locos because of sound issues. ESU sure has everyone beat. Wish Kato made more variety of locos, I would only buy them.

    hi Deryk... awesome loco.. too bad bnsf did have any... i agree with you i don't like the horn... full interior in N scale absolutely fantastic... lighting looks good except for the bleed... i'll bet after you run this loco in & make a couple of CV changes it will run smooth at all speed steps... over all great loco but for the money i would expect more separately applied details... i like the notch up feature... this feature would apply if i was to model the train i saw today while rail fanning... it was a grain train with about 150 cars... 4 units up front ..3 mid train & 2 DPU... this train was going up a grade all 9 locos were probably at notch 8 & his speed was about 10MPH.. (just a guess but i think i could have walked fasted) great job on the overview... thanks for sharing.. vinny.. BTW a video of the train i just mentioned might be up tomorrow

    200 Thumbs Up Mr. Deryk absolutely a Great looking piece of Machinery the Light bleed is kind of sad on a model of this level, but that Horn sound I thought was Really cool it simulates the Engine I thought going through Hills or maybe a Tunnel or through a Town's certain Areas All in All it's a Great Piece.. Thanks for sharing with us and you have a Great Weekend an or Sunday and Don't work to Hard Next week take Care Sir.. Can't wait to see your Next Video.

    You are way too kind, Deryk. If I had purchased this model I would be furious with the problems, especially considering the price.
    The low speed control was way too jerky. The fit & finish problems are horrendous. The paint pretty much sucks, especially around the sun shades. The hand rail and horn are chunky looking and that molded on detail in the front does not fit with the rest of the separately applied stuff... The light bleed in the rear headlight is totally unacceptable, and the ditch light alternating is uneven. Cab light too bright. Boy I could go on and on.
    Very disappointing but your presentation is appreciated!

    • @DGModelworks
      @DGModelworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you my friend! Which is why I already returned it. Too many defects for my taste. It did have some good qualities too. Which is why I said I was both impressed and disappointed. But yes, for the price, these defects are unacceptable.

  • @markhayes6407
    @markhayes6407 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    They should have top of the line quality. But not one mfg. of trains these days has good quality. There is always something not right out of the box. They are in a hurry to make a run in order to make money. Forget quality is their motto. The sound though is definitely a notch up over most for n scale. I have seen them in person but not sure I would buy one. Your review was helpful.

    • @DGModelworks
      @DGModelworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mark! I agree 1000% about QC. Every single manufacturer suffers from bad quality issues. It's rare for me to buy something without something being wrong with it. Which really sucks because of how much they cost. I'm actually sending this one back...
      ~Deryk

    • @markhayes6407
      @markhayes6407 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good for you. Not standing for bad quality should be our motto as modelers. It would be nice to have the industry reverse and do things like the old days. I probably won't buy one as I feel ESU loksound has better sound and definitely better horns.

    • @DGModelworks
      @DGModelworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @PeterCPRail8748

    Deryk great look at this loco, N scale sure is pushing the limits of the scale. The detail is getting much better and the sound decoders are getting smaller and better.
    As for the quality of the model that's just plan sucks, clearly a lack of QC at the Broadway plant. It's becoming to common place in all scales for what the companies charge for these models.
    Looking forward to more reviews, and for the love of God Deryk please start working on the layout again bahahahaahhahaaj

    • @DGModelworks
      @DGModelworks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      QC is definitely a problem with EVERY manufacturer....It seems to be getting worse and worse. Probably because of so many extra detail parts now...
      I know I need to work on the layout. People are about ready to shoot me. LOL Probably get back to it here in a couple months.

  • @ledhed430
    @ledhed430 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couple of fix's for a somewhat overpriced model.
    I got the two CSX YN2 paint schemes. One had the same gap between the cab and the walkway the other was fine. Relatively easy fix I found when changing to brown couplers (MTL 1015-1-B). The coupler pocket on the pilot is misaligned or just punched out too high. When the coupler goes in it pushes the pilot down and pulls the walkway away from the cab. I just shaved the bottom of the pocket hole with a hobby knife and it allowed the gap to close. Problem solved.
    Pick-up issues where a little more involved... basically the wheels, wipers and axle points that go through the wipers needed to be cleaned and polished. And make sure the contact strip is lined up properly. Since cleaning the axle points I haven't had any problems... Yet. I expect they'll get dirty again.
    Too much work for the price. Quality control was out to lunch when some of these were shipped out.

    Nice review, but I hope you realize that some of these n-scale AC6000 units are having running problems. Mine was received dead on arrival and there are other reports of DOAs. This locomotive is not trustworthy. One dealer trying them out had 6 failures out of 9 test runs. That is unacceptable. Those of you thinking of buying one of these might want to reconsider. I will be sending mine back tomorrow.

    They talk it up and doll it up with details to hide the real issues. DOA's and sent back only to not get them fixed for good but to get them sold off so they are off the hook. SAD! Model trains with sound what a concept that is in most cases is a frustrating nightmare for the modeler. I have been ripped off for the last time on sound decoders. Not anymore!
