  • In this interview, I decided to just let Andy Gonzalez and Manny Oquendo talk shop. Manny, who was hard of hearing and did not want to participate initially and said he just wanted to sit in, decided otherwise, as you can hear. Andy beautifully involved him in such a way, he did not even notice it! ;) Here, they talk Latin dance music in the 40's, being paid for scale, Chano Pozo, Tito Puente, Machito, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Miguelito Valdes, the Brothers Morales, Pupi Campo, the dance- halls, like the Palladium, the Audubon Ballroom, the Gloria Palace, Versailles, and much more. I just took it all in, like a kid in the candy-store. Two humble giants, both of them, with such a wealth of experience and information, all wrapped into their love of Latin music!

    Two of the most unappreciated Virtuosos and Pioneers of the Salsa movement.

      Yes indeed, these two geniuses were so unpretentious and sweet and wholly dedicated to their art and their music - in spite of their compromised health, Andy's especially! One of my most cherished interviews!

      That's amazing and good for you to have been taught by such Masters! I fell in love with them after just spending a few hours with them. At first, Manny did not want to be interviewed, so I told him ok, just come and watch Andy's interview. Within minutes of that interview he chimed in and before you knew it, he was on a roll...Such sweet souls, such talents!

    Can't find the continuation of that question about the dancers then and now. Is it coming?

    • @politicsofrhythm
      @politicsofrhythm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just published the continuation, Abraham. Just so you know, I am publishing clips from interviews that will eventually be featured in my documentary. Please understand, that until I know exactly what material I am using, it will be random clips that I think are of interest to the public, but which I know are too extensive to use in the doc.
