- Welcome to the Producer’s Journey to Angola. In this four-part series, we invite you to travel with the Playing For Change crew, Manu Chao and Mermans Mosengo as they embark on a life-changing adventure to explore and reconnect with the musical roots of Africa that have shaped the rhythmic sounds around the world.
Uncover the power of music as PFC and Manu Chao unite musicians in Portugal, Angola and Brazil, while working on new Songs Around The World, and recording renowned musicians Dionísio Rocha, Joãozinho Morgado and Raul Tolingas, whose musical contributions have impacted and influenced culture.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a Certified B Corp (Social Purpose Organization) created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting music programs for children around the world. This is very moving. I belonged to an organization that supported Angola's fight for independence. We released an LP of Angolan music with Paredon Records (now part of Smithsonian Folkways). I spent 5 weeks in Mozambique and even got to jam with some jazz musicians there.

Capturing these great musicians to preform is like collecting old book. These people won’t be around as they age. However you now have them of film forevermore. The young lady I think from Brazil playing the white Bass looks like she having way too much fun. Haha. Great documentary of great people connecting music with love. God Bless

I can't tell you how much I love this channel! If it weren't for Playing For Change I would probably never known the stunningly hypnotic, soothing and uplifting recording of the brothers of Toumani Diabaté playing Gomni and the incredibly beautiful song Drapeau by Habib Koité. Or the incredibly amazing and beautiful Salif Diarra song Djigui. My top three favorites so far. I listen to those and more every day. Much to my roommates and coworkers delight (I'm sure, LoL!) I now know, and sing with gusto and with feeling, songs in several different languages. I don't wait for them to beg me to sing Djigui or Drapeau or any other foreign language songs I've memorized. I just belt them out, all unsolicited and with feeling! 😅 Always keeping an eye on the channel for future additions to my multinational Repertoire! Thank you guys so much for what you do! ❤️❤️❤️
