You can do drill with these bass slides feature! This is a great tutorial and has answers my questions about the sequence of the analog ryth! Thank you 🙏🏽
Wow, thanks... 13:02 onwards really helped to finally understand p-locks. I didn't know about the need to lock default values on all slides. Also trig-lengths affecting slides was a totally new one for me... opens up a lot of possibilities for carving out a proper groove.
interesting that you can always learn new stuff about the RYTM ... for me, in this vid, it was the page+copy/paste combination, and the fact that the BD plastic engine can be used for 808 bass tones
Hi. Electron new when i click the trigger 1 to play the sub bass and turn the note knob the third knob is set to a free length instead of of a synced length as shown in the video 2:26 any help would be appreciated
Good question, thanks for asking! Digitakt is a sampler and can play samples chromatically, so with a decent 808 kick sample (from Goldbaby for example or the Elektron 2323 sample pack), you can play 808 bass lines (see my Digitakt vs. Amen Break video). However, Digitakt does not feature slide/portamento, so you won’t get the pitchdrops. There is a rather clumsy workaround utilizing the LFO, or you could simply use 808 samples that already include a pitch drop. Perhaps Elektron will add slide to the machine later (as they did with Analog Rytm IIRC), but there is no way to tell.
Great Video, I learned something from it. Thank you! You just got a new follower. Would love to see more tutorials for Rytm from you. Greetz from Berlin :)
Thanks for your support apparatgeraet, highly appreciated! I would love to do more videos on the Analog Rytm, but I wasn’t sure how relevant the Mk1 still is. Perhaps I’ll get my hands on a Mk2 somewhen, we will see :)
Dacci Pucci for me it’s still relevant, because I have an mk1 and don’t want to upgrade. But I i think in terms of workflow and creating tracks there not so much differences between mk1 and mk2 (except the performance knob). With samples and synthengine, you can basically do the same on both maschines. In near future there will be many people buying a used mk1, because the price droped so heavy. I expect lots of „newbies“ on the mk1 soon. So your mk1 tuts will definitely get more plays in the future. DO IT! 😎😊 ;)
Dacci Pucci i just like to watch peps creating tracks from scratch including the sounddesign. Usually it’s just very inspirational to me. I’m more in dark tech house, but it’s important that you create a track from a genre which you like. Most of the time you can adapt something for your music from every genre. So feel free to do something you like and have fun while doing it. Greetz from Berlin :)
If you were just playing in the bass part with a midi keyboard would it recognize/record the pitchbend information from the keyboard?? Awesome tutorial by the way.. !
I don’t have a Rytm anymore, but back when I did I didn’t recognize any unusual noise. Perhaps check if the master channel compressor and/or overdrive are active. Depending on the settings that could lead to a higher idle noise level.
Dacci Pucci Thanks for answering. I compared my own pattern to the factory ones. My pattern is much quieter. Now I have to find out why. I'm glad it's not something wrong with my Rhytm. Why did you sell him (her)?
Ah, that’s good. There are multiple stages of gain in each sound and the sum, quite possible it’s just a setting issue. I sold Rytm because I didn’t make much music were I needed it at the time. I do plan to get a mk2 at some point.
Curious if you have upgraded to the mkii or still use the mki? I am looking at them both to pair with my octatrack. It will be mainly used for these types of drums, trap and hiphop
I have not upgraded yet, but I think both are perfectly fine. The pads on mk2 are a bit better for my taste, but still not really as playable as Maschine or Push.
That's the reason because I really don't like this drum maschine from Elektron. It doesn't matter what you do or trying to do it always gonna be Elektron, you cannot manipulate or express yourself 100% from this Drum Maschine(sampler/synth whatever). This video is the example of this, trying to make some 808, ok Dacci did some decent work there but it is still Elektron you can hear it and the sound is not the best out there! Many of producers are crazy about it and I have no idea why. No sound(plastic, really over processed kind of), really expensive, difficult to use if you want to take all the advantages(because that is another thing, Companies want nowadays to put everything in one little box which brings me depression!!) easy to use when you lazy which is also not a good thing. This is my humble opinion for Elektron Analog Rytm.
Thanks for commenting! So in summary you want something that’s cheap, easy to use, fantastic sounding but not like anything else, let’s you fully express yourself, doesn’t come in a little box and still takes some effort? Sounds like you’re made for Eurorack. But seriously, every piece of equipment will always be a compromise, they’re is no perfect tool for every purpose. For me Elektron works great, but I’m also happy there are many other choices out there.
No, I don't go for cheap, I go and pay for quality. The new one cost 1.412-1.500 € btw. The old one cost around there also.Everyone can do whatever at the end of the day, but knowledge is what's missing today.I am not a Eurorack guy but I like that kind of ideology (don't have the money for that right now also perhaps later)and I am also not an analog freak. We are speaking about 1.412-1.500 € sampler here...I worked with it and I tried the one also. Alternative: Maschine which is cheaper but comes with a shiny shit Daw. Both do the same thing! They are samplers!! (synth engine also in analog rytm I think.) *I have a sp1200, for example, it suits me. sometimes I use also the Maschine.
This is perfect. Literally the only video on all of TH-cam explaining how to get actual 808 baselines on the Rytm 🙏🏿 I appreciate you
I watched this YEAR'S ago, saw it again while looking for something else and learned a lot again! 🤯🙌
Very well done. Super clear. I really liked the way you navigated the issue with how the trigless lock was showing up live.
This is a really well done tutorial, and completely transferrable to the Rytm mk2 - thank you!
Many thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear that this is still useful.

+tronstoner Glad the Video was helpful to you :) Thanks

Love this guy. Makes a change from all the boring shop based tutorials etc
Some fantastic Elektron workflow tips in this video, excellent work 😀👍
Nice! Good idea. Well executed. Clear explanation!
Awesome!
Tip: you can use the "Trig Mute" function on a parameter lock to stop a note, instead of having to set the length for each note
edit : does not work, "trig mute" only mutes a trig, not a note/sound
Great AR tutorial, would definitely love more
James Reynolds Thanks James, glad you like it! More is coming soon :)
Das war wirklich verdammt informativ 😎🤘danke✌️
Clean, uncluttered concise tutorial. Thanks.
Steven Grandy Haha, thanks! Much appreciated!
never thought of using triggerless locks for parameter slides. Thanks!

loved this! fantastic tutorial. would love to see more AR tutorials form you!
lee hodge Thank you, much appreciated! New videos are in the making :)
This is going to be super useful with the new Dual-VCO machine. Thanks!!!
Please sir quick question I'm asking (if u've tried the digikat) & ifso does it make 808 bass as nice as the rytm?

Really enjoyed this. Going to try it on my Rytm!
Nice explanation and very good hints ,thank you.
Great tutorial for the ar - thanks dude!
Please bring some more tutorials for the ar.
such a helpful tutorial for this machine overall, thanks

apparatgeraet Good point! I will look into it. Anything specific you would like to see me do?

If you’re into watching people produce, I have something new coming up in the near future that you’ll probably enjoy ;)
If you were just playing in the bass part with a midi keyboard would it recognize/record the pitchbend information from the keyboard?? Awesome tutorial by the way.. !
That is a very good question! I don't know for sure, but I'll try it and let you know.
Dacci Pucci Thanks!
Amazing Tutorial. Thank you!!
Thank you :)
how did you know the note was C# based on the number you turned the dial to?
I ran a test signal through a tuner before and did the math to figure out how many increments of the knob correspond to one note.
@@XanderEwald swift reply, thankie
Is the sound on CP4 a sample or synthesis?
As far as I remember it's a sample, probably from some Gill Chang pack.
My Rhytm produces a lot of noise. I mean, when the machine is not playing at all. A lot more than my synths etc.
Do you recognize that too?
I don’t have a Rytm anymore, but back when I did I didn’t recognize any unusual noise. Perhaps check if the master channel compressor and/or overdrive are active. Depending on the settings that could lead to a higher idle noise level.
Dacci Pucci

Dope beat mang!
Great Tutorial // more please :)
Working on it! Thanks :)
Yes cool ! Thanks
nice work mate
whats your approach to your kick drum on the rytm? to make it both juicy and crisp on top of a bassline as u made it here?
That really depends on the track. If there is a kick (which often there isn’t these days), I try to treat the kick and bass as a unit.
I will give you a more detailed answer on IGTV soon!
Dacci Pucci much appreciated!
Curious if you have upgraded to the mkii or still use the mki? I am looking at them both to pair with my octatrack. It will be mainly used for these types of drums, trap and hiphop
mk1 is great bro, if u can afford a brand new mk2 just go, but if u only caan buy a mk1 don't doubt my perfect set up would be digitakt + rytm ♥
I have not upgraded yet, but I think both are perfectly fine. The pads on mk2 are a bit better for my taste, but still not really as playable as Maschine or Push.
Very nice man!
+Lingk Thanks :)
excellent !
That’s was really helpfull !! Thanks a lot ! 🙂🙏🙏🙏
why everybody says rrrrrrrrrytm ?
In my case because I am German and that’s how it sounds when I try to pronounce the Swedish word Rytm.
thx
I mean a LOT
WERK You are very welcome! Glad it was helpful.
:)
Like the pattern, but don get why this would be an 808 bass. It's just a cool bassline.
Back when I made the video, this type of bass line was referred to as „808 bass“. The lingo might have changed in the years since.
That's the reason because I really don't like this drum maschine from Elektron.

Sooooo, don't buy one? Not really sure why you bothered writing a veritable novel just because you don't like a drum machine.
