6:47 I it really reading between the lines when the actors themselves said that's what they wanted to portray and even read the fan fictions, said that in their 10 year reunion they are going to make out, and have stated multiple times they shipped it? They were not subtle about this.
I watched a lot of the earlier seasons when it felt really subtle which is what I was referring to. Maybe in the later seasons they started playing more into it.
@@Valnotersc Unsurprisingly I never got round to it. Though I did write a Review of 'Life with Derek' medium.com/filmmaker-dream-studios/could-you-handle-life-with-derek-e0a4c78a31c4
Yeah all the *questionable* things did air in full on Family channel in Canada. Comparing beasts to raisins and apricots sounds silly and like an entertainingly awkward conversation between older and younger step siblings, but when I was around 13 it was a comforting message and made me feel like less of an overly developed freak. The babe raider episode also made me aware of the whole "its not what YOU wear that's wrong-it's THEIR attitude" from a young age and I think that is important. I really liked this show and the marble episode was my favorite :) Also: what are you doing, step bro?
it makes you feel like there should be something but it's still *you* looking for it , bc they clearly cannot stand each other. the format is very simplistic bc it's a youth show so we just fill in the gaps as we're older, but face value it really just is about opposites.
The show didn't last longer than Lizzie McGuire. Back then, Disney Channel had a rule that shows could only last 65 episodes. That's why Even Stevens is also only 65 episodes long.
@Jasmine L. I know that. I'm responding to the part in his video where he says that Life With Derek lasted longer than Lizzie McGuire, which is suggesting that it was more popular than Lizzie McGuire and that's why it lasted longer. But that's not true. It only lasted longer because Lizzie McGuire and other Disney Channel shows back then were only allowed 65 episodes. I'm sure if Disney could have extended the life of Lizzie McGuire, they would have done it. Since Life With Derek was not a Disney Channel show, it was able to last longer, whereas, original Disney Channel shows like Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens, which were both massively popular at the time, were not allowed to continue contractually.
@Jasmine L. Disney doesn't have that 65 episode rule in place anymore. I agree with you about Disney Channel shows being childish and unrealistic, but that's mainly the shows today. Back in the Lizzie McGuire days, the shows were much, much better. Lizzie McGuire actually was a much more "free" show back then than the shows now. I remember the bra episode being revolutionary for it's time and revolutionary content for the channel. That's why the Lizzie McGuire reboot was canceled by Disney. The creator wanted the freedom to be able to tell the story authentically but Disney wouldn't allow it because it demanded family friendly content. That being said, Disney Channel isn't a comparable American network to the Family channel in Canada. A comparable American channel would be ABC Family/Freeform channel. And the shows on ABC Family/Freeform do have the freedom to discuss certain topics and are less restrictive.
Weird thing about food in kids shows, they add it so they seem real. It sticks out if not done propperly but some shows have been called put because no one eating. It takes from the illusion the show is giving. So kids shows would make jokes out of food to make a point out of it.

I’m gonna do an essay on how Derek and Casey are the prime example of a redemptive relationship.
Is it done? Would love to read it.

This show was my childhood, bro!
Family Channel and YTV were me and my sister's go to channels to watch as a kid.

You got a few facts wrong; Marti was 6 in season 1 & 2, 7 in 3 and 8 in 4.
