Good to hear a "normal" person giving their real-world opinions. I finally purchased a 640 and now to wait for delivery before I can cook RIBS! Yes, I'm a rib guy and it's what I cook the most.
I found your channel a few months back when I was trying to decide if I should get a Yoder. Your videos helped make that an easier decision. Now that I have one, I find your maintenance videos to be invaluable. Thank you! I've only done 3 cooks so far, but of the three (Bacon, Turkey Breast, and Brisket), my favourite was definitely the Brisket.
I have a YS640S on order and have found your videos extremely helpful. They have given me a better understanding of what I can expect with this smoker. I am looking forward to trying many different smokes such as ribs, briskets and steak. Thanks for the content, and keep the videos coming!
It's all good. I downsized from a Southern Pride 700 as a caterer to a recreational smoker/griller For family and friends. This machine does it ALL !!!
Just wanted to say thank you for the videos. I have spent the last 3 months or so watching videos of the various pellet smokers. Yours have been very informative. Decided on the Yoder 640s and purchased this weekend. Spent Saturday putting together, doing the burn in, and seasoning. Your videos were very helpful. Started slow and cooked three racks of ribs on Sunday and they turned out excellent. I live in Florida and the ACS just arrived today so will be putting that on shortly. I did purchase the grease shield as well after watching and reading comments. Keep up the good work.
Another great video. I am cleaning the 640 this weekend. We are in western NY and I ended up putting the 640 in the corner of our garage then vented it outside. More comfy year round cooking and out of the weather/wind.
Very new to both the pellet grill and Yoder pellet grill scene and went with the YS 640s! At this point in my early endeavors, smoked pork chops have been my favorite...thus far. Thanks for all of your videos, as they're really helping a newbie like me out for sure!
Nothing too fancy. Favorite thing to cook is brisket, low and slow. Love your videos, I’ve learned a lot! Your channel weighed heavily on my decision to get my 640. 👍🏻 keep the content coming!!
Has anyone looked into trying one of those nanoceramic or graphene wipe-on coatings? I looked into a couple, and some of them can withstand over 1000°F. My Yoder 640s is coming in the spring, and I was thinking about coating it with one of them; if not, I will definitely try the ACF spray.
I haven’t tried anything like that myself. Yoder recommended this stuff. So far so good. Im going to put another coating on soon just so I have it covered well for the winter. I use it all year round and want to keep it looking good. Thanks for watching.
My favorite thing to cook on my Yoder is brisket. My Yoder is always covered with the Yoder cover and I’m having rust issues also. I bought it February 2020
I still have yet to do a brisket, but will do one soon. Check out my unboxing video, the 3rd chapter goes over seasoning. Make sure you do that on the inside. That will put any rust issues on the inside to rest. On the outside I would check out the links under this video and give any spots a sanding and then a spray with the paint it comes with. Then apply this product. Some rust is expected, but this product is supposed to really help. Feel free to email me with any questions. Email is in the bottom of the description.
The issue is that steel rusts very easily. They didn’t want to power coat it because if you scratch that, you can’t repair it and then rust would spread quickly. They wanted a high temp paint that resisted moisture, didn’t fade easily, and was easy to repair. The great news is, I’ve put a couple coats of ACF-50 on now, coming up on a year, and not one speck of rust! I’ll be doing a follow up video at the one year mark. Thanks for watching!
I just ordered the ACF - 50. Thanks for this video it really helps. I recently had my Yoder 640 built into my outdoor kitchen which is under a covered patio. My question is with using these products without illuminate the need for the canvas cover? I did purchase that before I had it built-in but now it does not fit properly. And quite frankly it looks kind of ugly so I hoped to keep the cover off if these products will help prevent any rust. I do live in south Texas on the coast where it is very humid. Please and thank you
Tough call, but since it’s covered I’d say you are probably ok. I’d put a coat of ACF-50 on at least twice a year. Maybe 3 times to be safe. I’m coming up on a year and absolutely no rust. I applied once in the winter. Thanks for watching!
I have don’t done a video on it but it’s mostly surface rust. A light sanding should handle most of it. I found this video that should help: th-cam.com/video/08-Hl0zwzRE/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching.
So far our favorite is bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. I have had my ys640 about as long as you and the only rust issue I had was where it had been nicked by a grate. Love the channel and the content. Jake keep up the good work.
Thanks for your content! My favorite meat to cook on the Yoder is Tomahawk ribeye. Seasoning with Adobo, salt, cracked black pepper, garlic. I guess I like it so much because it comes out looking so sexy using the grillgrate and heating to 750°+ . Of course grill marks are sweet but prefer the flat side so the whole steak gets that needed crunch!
Great video! Is it safe to apply the acf-50 to the underside lid of the hopper? I know we don't want it to come into contact with food surfaces but what about pellet surfaces? Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I just got my Pitts & Spitts 1250 and plan on seasoning and then rust protecting. In your video I didn't notice if you also wiped down the inside of the cooking area, would you recommend to do that or should we avoid that area all together? ACF-50 looks like it's non-toxic, but not sure i want that taste around the food. Thanks again.
Congrats. Def only food grade oil inside. Canola, or melted tallow work best. Inside is a thinner coat than you would expect and a decent coating on the grates. Thanks for watching!
Hey Jake, awesome video as always! For the New Yoder owners, would you recommend first to do a burn-in and then seasoning and then perform rust prevention or would you prefer to do that in a different order?
I’d recommend doing rust first. That way weather can’t surprise you and you will have that covered before it sits outside too long. Yoder now says you can use mineral oil as well to rust proof. Season and burn in I think you can combine in one step. Don’t get too crazy with oil inside. A little goes a long way. Also if you do a couple of pork butts first cook it will help season as well. 🍻
My 640 ships this week! Looking forward to cooking a scrumptious brisket. Another great video! Rust was one of my concerns when I was making a decision but this procedure eliminates that entirely

Good timing, update video came out this week: 1 Year Update! Does This Product Put An End To Yoder Rust Issues? th-cam.com/video/O1PeaxFzx8M/w-d-xo.html
They’ve actually spent a ton on RD for paint. The goal is to strike a balance between being able to handle the heat, being fade resistant, and easily repairable. I thought the same until I called them to learn more. Steel naturally rusts and the pits have a 10 year warranty on them. They want you to be able to spend a little time and be able to make it look like brand new anytime you want. If it was coated you couldn’t do that. This process in the video really helps and you only have to do a couple times a year. I’ll be closely monitoring it and sharing an update in a few months. Thanks for watching.
Oh I almost forgot...be careful when cleaning the stainless drip cover, the drip tray has a lip where the stainless steel was folded when cleaning I sliced my knuckle open, make sure you fold your rag over your hand for protection!!!!

I was trying to figure out how to get rust off my Yoder and it took me ten minutes to get to any useful information
Well others need some background and you can skip forward 😁🍻

Best thing to cook on a Yoder is a tri-tip. I am a big fan of Cardiff crack! Google it and make it one of your videos! I believe they ship it.
Love me some tri-tri.
Ribs, briskets, butts and burgers!
All my favs 😆. Burger Battle vid coming soon.
Has anyone tried XPC?
Not sure what that is, but Yoder also now recommends Mineral oil if you don’t want to use ACF-50 🍻
Oh I almost forgot...be careful when cleaning the stainless drip cover, the drip tray has a lip where the stainless steel was folded when cleaning I sliced my knuckle open, make sure you fold your rag over your hand for protection!!!!
Appreciate the tip!
