Jamie Foreman’s performance in this scene is absolutely amazing. One of the best acting performances I’ve seen on a soap. Shame he was killed off, they could have done a lot more with Jamie Foreman’s talent.

Brain Donor Jaime Foreman, can play psychos & gangsters, well, because he grew up around these people & I can say, that his version of Derek Branning is scary & even Micheal French ( The David Wicks actor) was scared of him for real,for a few seconds-as Jaime probably added a few unscripted actions, like more physical violence, etc.
Jaime might be a one-dimensional, crap actor, but he’s nailed playing villains well & they cast him, in Eastenders,for this reason.

When I first watched this, I remember being scared shitless. Derek’s actor made a heart attack look sooo painful... I hope I never have one...
Jake Wood is an incredible actor, steals the scene in every scene he’s in. Only people who’ve acted will appreciate this guy, incredibly good actor, too good for a soap opera tbh.

He’s not bad but he wasn’t too good for Eastenders, no way. He’s a tv actor so being in that was good for his career, sometimes his acting was laughable but he made that role his own, he is Max. They couldn’t get anyone else to play him now, be too weird. Can’t all be like Ben Mitchell lol
@@PBL187 watch his emotions and how believe they are compared most of the other soap actors, best crier, played angry very well, could Nick a bird too good for him and make it realistic etc, very good actor, very rarely seen him have a stinker of a scene, was usually the best actor in the episode when i watched it, and I only really watched it from an acting stand point

Explosive scene, extremely well acted. Jake wood, playing Max, is a great cirier - one of the best in the show. I was not watching the show at this time, so I love to take sneak peeks at things I have missed. I just started watching again after missing about 15 years. Sometimes it's so hard to find in the US that I just gave up for quite a while (I live in Queens, NY.) Now I'm back! God bless TH-cam! Thanks so much for uploading these.

I liked Dereks character, but I felt like they never really went far enough with him. His feud with Phil showed potential, but was ultimately disappointing. Would have liked to see him stick around for a few more years.
Yeah same. Underneath the family man persona he had a genuinely intimidating and menacing presence. You knew he wasn’t a bloke to be messed with.
That’s why I love characters like Derek, they showcase the darker and grittier side of the show, rather than the constant Whitney love stories we’ve had shoved down our throats for years.

They didn't know he was having a heart attack, I think Max and Jack thought he was just playing for sympathy and attention, it's only until he really started collapsing and wasn't responding they knew he was having a heart attack.

In about 2008 when the Brannings were a central family I heard theyhad another brother called Derek and always thought he'd be an interesting character to bring back but when they did bring him back he was wasted.

This heart attack came out of nowhere. Literally zero build up to this happening before this episode
Christmas Day in 2012, few months after my Grandmother passed away. Derek Branning was shouting at his brothers about the night of her coffin (Funeral) and their Girlfriend (Relationship). Then, he has Kat and his brothers grabed him and throw him outside. And, he suffered a massive heart attack, he pounced dead.
No attempt at CPR...

What happened before this scene?
This was actually an accident on set. Derek was supposed to fall down the stairs but he got to scared to but the camera man was low on battery so he kept filming and then Derek had a real heart attack because he hated Joey so much he couldn't stand to live in the same universe as him and so he died in real life but the directors just couldn't be bothered to go over and help him because he's so ugly they wanted him dead and instead of using more battery on the camera they decided to just go with this.
