As someone who was around back when Mr. Taxi was first released, I can guarantee you it was an absolute hit. I must have watched that MV 50 times back to back. Paparazzi was just as big, and their Japanese title tracks only got better from there. I'd recommend watching their "The Best Live" concert tour at the Tokyo Dome. It was probably their best live concert ever, and features basically their entire Japanese discography with incredible stages, outfits, and vocals.
Yes.. Watching SNSD'S MV is overwhelming becuse there's a lot happening when we don't have enough time to appreciate every single things. Everytime SNSD release new MV I would watch it like 10 times. 1 for the first time, and other 9 for each member focused. 😂😂😂 You should watch Paparazzi live performance from Phantasia concert, it's has some additional easter egg. And also back then in 2010 SNSD was covering "Singing In The Rain" in their concert. That's when I discovered that Taeyeon is an amazing and versatile singer who can pull any singing style.
Their Japanese uptempos are very catchy but it's Japanese ballads that stand out for me: MVs: "Time Machine", "All My Love Is For You, "Divine", Lives: "Not Alone" (Tokyo Dome), "Stay Girls" (3rd Japan tour) and "Indestructible" (Phantasia) They are all my go-to sentimental and comforting material
The super electronic vocoders on their voices and production is what sells best in Japan and so all their songs for that market are heavy on that sound.

In your own time, you might wanna listen to their performance of Mr Taxi on kcon LA 2014, so you can hear the un-autotuned version. I know the autotune is there on purpose an it does fit the song, but still when it comes to my personal taste i'll always prefer their live vocals.. specially on that bridge (one of my favorite bridges by them).. And Paparazzi stage on their Phantasia tour is ICONIC! Their Japanese songs tend to be either on the more eletronic BOP or very emotional ballad, there's no in between lol
