  • Building a class 323 in N gauge - Overcome the challenges of converting to DCC.
    You may remember last week’s video ending with decoders failing, broken wires and a model which wouldn’t run on DC, let alone on DCC. Id come so far with this train and didn’t want to store it away again. Find out what I did to solve these DCC issues. Enjoy!

    Dear John, cool beans! Love the way you filmed this entire build. Very interesting how you printed the chassis. Kinda horrifying how those decoder prices have shot through the roof. Awesome how you mounted the pantograph. Cheerio

    The motor brush contacts touch either side of the split chassis, thus powering the unit.
    Where the brush contacts touches the frame has to be isolated or use a dremel to file away the area on both sides.
    That's how you isolate a split chassis.

      The 3d printed chassis worked after a few issues, and it was easy to modify, not so with the metal chassis. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Which video did you mention your new microphone as i could do with one for my videos

      Hi Liam, it’s a BOYA got it from Amazon, around £30 ish. Comes for Android or another option for IOS and a choice of no of microphones. Hope that helps

    Will the 323 run on dcc on Piccadilly, of course it will, you're John Warner, we have every faith in you. Knew it would work anyway the challenge now is to fit sound 😂 cheers Andy

      I would like sound, but it costs and that’s something I cannot consider atm

    Hi John! Now that's what I call an extreme DCC fitting! Lol! Very well done on bringing the 323 to life again! As always, I'm completely in awe of your skills! All the best, Ian. P.S. Rails currently have the Bachmann 36-567A (Zimo) Next18 decoders on sale for £29.50!

      Hi, glad you liked it. You will be able to do these things and more.
      I was looking to fit 6 pin as the whole setup is smaller and thinner than next 18. For some reason I don’t get on with next 18, many seem to either blow or corrupt with z21. Time will tell.

    Well done John. To me, that seems very complicated and way beyond my skill set. I am as always, full of admiration. Thanks for sharing. Roy.😊

      Many thanks! I did throw up a few challenges. It works on DCC now but still not quite right

    Hi John,
    Was there ever any doubt that this would run dcc not with Mr Warner in charge there was not so very well done for your perseverence and dogged determination to succeed and that she runs well only goes to show how good you have done this very nice to watch home made model preform.
    Cheers Robert.

      Thanks Robert, very kind. Although it really did my head in with so many things breaking, burning out, not fitting or plain being awkward. It has laid the path to more though, royal mail train, classes 185, 195 not forgetting a few re-liveries that still need doing. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Well done on persevering John. How long did it take to create the model for the 3D printer? It wasn't the easiest of shapes. Stephen

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Stephen, the shape does look complex, but it was quite simple, adding shapes together while subtracting others, like the rounds for the motor housing. Each took around an hour to print. Having said that the chassis did need a fair bit of modification, as it was easier to do that by hand rather continually reprinting.

    Like Thomas Edison and the electric light bulb, John never gave up on the 323. Through, "blood, toil, tears and sweat" you persevered. Bill and Janet from California

      Oh Bill, very kind but I have nothing on Thomas Edison extraordinarily clever man I could only dream to match.

    As I watched the 323 make its successful DCC run, I couldn't help imagine it feeling so proud to be up and running after a long illness -- like a patient finally getting well and being happy to stretch their legs in the outdoors.
    Bravo for such a good job; for sticking to it and getting it all sorted !

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bless you, I do understand, however, it is a new model, teething maybe?
      Now I know it’s possible with the 3d printer and cricut, I will do more. Thinking of those trains not available RTR.
